Face-Off: The Crew: Wild Run

Digital Foundry:
When The Crew was first released there was the sense that the developer's ambitions for the title simply weren't matched by the same level of technical polish expected for a current generation game. Prior patches have provided bug fixes, AI tweaks, and made some handling adjustments, but the Wild Run revamp goes much further, attempting to expand upon the ambition of the original game with new content and considerably more advanced visuals. The improved physics and handling model gives vehicles a weightier feel that makes driving more enjoyable than before, while the use of new effects and reworked lighting results in a game that feels much more like a current-gen title, as opposed to the cross-gen release it originally was.

A strange one, this is. Shame the game didn't live up to expectations.

Meh, back to Horizon 2.

InMyOpinion3077d ago

Out of all the racing games released this gen, Horizon 2 is the only one I miss on the PS4. It has everything I like in a racing game, and I actually enjoyed it more than Forza 6.

Gazondaily3077d ago

Yeah man, I need to jump back on it. Wicked game.

When it first came I'd totally agree, I sold my copy but brought it bk for the wild run and the game now is so much btr especially with the latest patch, graphx & driving physics are completely different now and im lovin it.

I actually really like the game. Did already last year and like it much better now. It to me feels more like a spiritual successor to great NFS games of old than any other NFS after the first Most Wanted. I don't even think one can compare it to Horizon. Horizon is a great game but lacks the variety this game has.

The update makes it the same for both consoles.. How do you figure the xb version takes it?

FlexLuger3077d ago

According to the video that is simply not the case. The PS4 version suffers from more tearing and has frame rate dips. according to the video, and the guiy even mentions that was the case before the update. But who REALLY cares? The car handling in this game is awful.

DivineAssault 3077d ago (Edited 3077d ago )

Oh, so the performance suffers even after the update? Oh well, wasnt buying this either way.. Still odd to me that its better on xb1.. Thats rare

The handling is much better now than at launch

FlexLuger3077d ago (Edited 3077d ago )

@uth11

I would have to try it myself. When I tried the initial demo the cars felt a detached and devoid of feel. Maybe ubi should do a new demo with the update in place. When I tried it, the cars didnt really feel like cars to me. But then I am less forgiving than most about car handling in games. Love the new visuals though. Maybe Ill get it cheap for the PC at some point and have 60FPS thrown in for shits and giggles.

DivineAssault

"Oh, so the performance suffers even after the update?"

Yup. No reason that should even be the case, but maybe in a future update they will rectify it. UBI are not done with this game yet, so a performace update on PS4 will surely come..but...

"Oh well, wasnt buying this either way.."

I feel the same ( though maybe really cheap for PC) besides, that even if you only own a PS4, DC would be the better choice. Im not a fan of DC but I still think its a better racer than the crew. Add with GT sport coming in ..april, i think they said. Better to wait for that, and kill the time with the excellent Pcars in the meantime. That game is so underrated around here. Give it a chance. And lets not forget Asseto corsa in a few months.

FlexLuger3077d ago

Im trying hard to care...but FH2 makes this game so redundant. I spent 20 mins with the demo before deleting it and jumping back on FH2. I guess Im used to better.

kraenk123077d ago

Games are hardly comparable tbh. i wish Horizon had more modes and general variety of this game.

FlexLuger3076d ago

I would say they are comparable up to a point. Both are open world racers for a start. Fair enough the objectives in each are different but in the end it comes down to point to point racing ion an open world...and FH2 simply does that better. And the car handling in FH2 is leages ahead of the crew. as for variety...well FH2 is not short of things to do, online or offline...whether its straight up racing, road trips with mixed events along the route...racing against planes trains, air ballons etc...cat and mouse, tag modes, team racing, drift events and lobbies..rallying around the italian country side..or on storm island, where it is a bit more extreme off road..its all there in FH2 and the cars always feel sublime...and lets not forget that livery editor...forza is one of the few games where your car feel like...yours...
