Opinion piece on the future of the MMO genre and where it is heading.
I'm afraid so :(
I want EQN on PS4 and I'll be good, I just bought The Elder Scrolls Online and I'm pretty happy with that right now plus 24$ with Sharing so 2 for 1 pretty good MMO.
MMORPG's are just taking a 3 - 4 year break, before the quality is returning. The executives are currently taking a step back from the genre, because they tried to cash in on it and failed. We'll see the return of niche games, instead of something catering to everyone and everything.
The tradinional mmorpg is pretty much dead. I think the future of mmos is in games like Star Citizen, ARK, The Devision etc etc. Also, as much as it pains me to say this i think EQ Next has been cancelled.
WoW ruined MMO Genre by making them all Themepark. At least Black Desert Online seems promising, since it is a Sandbox. How MMO Should be.
How exactly is WoW responsible for other devs creating shitty MMO's? That said there are plenty of Good MMO's out there arguably better than WoW including Black Desert, Guild Wars 2, WildStar, TERA, ArchAge and Skyforge just to name a few.
Everyone is trying to copy WoW's themepark to get their sub. Also the games you named. GW2? Developers forgot what made GW1 great and tried to copy WoW. They even forgot the PVP, their core player base. WildStar? Combat system was horrible from Beta. Its pay to win now TERA? Was great, until Gameforge Happen. Gameforge Ruin everything it touches. ArchAge? Pay to win Skyforge? Pay to Win Black Desert? We have yet to see.
