NASA Looks to PlayStation VR to Solve Key Challenge of Space Robot Operation

While NASA has a long history of sending probes and rovers into space, advancements in robotics has made deployment of human-like robots an increasingly attractive prospect. But it turns out that controlling such humanoid robots remotely is challenging. NASA and Sony have been collaborating to explore how VR might be used to train operators to control robots in space.

Wow Nasa learning how to control robots from 100 ft Robot Golf

I'm kidding

S2Killinit3476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

Nasa's tiny robots pale in comparison to the mighty 100 foot robots of robot golf.

Its cool stuff though. I think NASA should create a PSVR simulation so we can experience space, and charge for the tickets to VR space. That might help solve NASA's unfortunate lack of government funding.

Imagine a movie like gravity in VR, space can look so good.

Cool! They're into everything it seems, also using Oculus Rift and Kinect 2.0 for the same research, as well as Hololens for various other projects.

This is cool news indeed :)

So this confirms that VR also will have functionally outside of gaming as well. Which is good in its overall appeal and giving it a well rounded scope as far as applications.

What people need to realise is that the success of VR will not at all solely be the responsibility to the gaming market, its things like this that will make in popular

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
