Future PS3 firmware updates we need PART I

The Playstation 3 still needs a lot of new features if it really wants to stick out and impress the customers. We here at That Gaming Site are going to take a closer look at what we think is needed and our views on if it is possible.

When you play a PS3 game it comes up on your friends list doesn't it? Well does it work when you play PS2/PS games? or how about a Blu-ray movie? Your right it doesn't. As little as this may be we think it is needed because it will make all the difference. Is it possible, it has to be. The PS3 does recognise what PS2 game is being played because they add new ones in the firmware updates do they not? The games have some sort of code that the console needs to recognise to play and they add these via updates. So what is stopping them from adding something that reads this code and displays it, rather than logging us off? The blu-ray movies once again must be possible. Our games are all on Blu-ray and that is possible so why not just do the same with the movies? We are not to sure if standard DVD's are possible, but most likely they are not.

It doesn't matter to me if it's part 1 or part 300. If that's what some poor soul think it's needed for the PS3, then for me it means the PS3 is perfect as it is. Last thing I want when I watching a movie, is someone telling me the movie suck and I should be playing a game instead.

Well, I could add a few thing too I guess.

Slice bread
Make coffee
Clean the house
Mow the lawn
Turn blue when I'm angry
Make a fart noise when I turn it on

And I'm sure people can add too it too. Geez, it's a game console that is already doing way too much already. I'll take anything else they will throw at me, but I love it as it is already.

yea i dont really agree with most of those "opinions". What is REALLY needed is multi-user logins for those splitscreen co-op trophies (SSDHD, and certain there will be more in the future) kinda sux after helping my buddy get the trophy i gotta do it again on my PSN.

The ps3 already comes packed with all the features you need and then some.. Anything extra they add yes i welcome it, but i can already play online for free and access xmb.. not stop with the hate from 2006-7 it's done fellas move on.

If the person on your PS3 is a close friend he has more then one way to get a hold of you! Movie time is not a social time IMO. You shut up and watch the dam movie! Blueray offers the best picture on the market...why do you want a message popping up everytime a person gets online.

It would be nice for the system to atleast show for ps2/ps games and movies both blueray and dvd that I was doing it. I wouldnt care if the name was there just that I was indeed doing something.

I always thought it should show what blu ray movie you were watching...Custom avatars would be cool.. but it might add to loading time.. I dont mind pre loaded avatars if there was more of them.. 23 pages doesnt cut it...The whole chess thing.. You will be able to do that in HOME...The last 2 things would be cool.. but not alot of people would use it..

I've had my ps3 since march and the increased functionality just since then has been great.

biggest potential improvements for me would be a ps2 emulation feature for the unfortunate 40 gig owners, like myself lol. that and more widespread trophy support, though obviously the firmware for that is now in place, i just wish more games would get patched

Do you guys watch porn on your PS3 or something? It can play Youtube (the only flash I would care about having), it has enough memory for me to be on Facebook and N4g at the same time. It's perfectly fine.

I agree with one of the comments on the site. Sony still needs to enable scaling for all resolutions in all games.

that's the one thing i am hoping they will do as well. As i only have a 1080i/480P HDTV as well. i just get a kick out of some people that say buy a new tv LOL. It's not taxing on the hardware to scale like it is to make games native 1080 that is not what is expected to be done. Scaling the games will allow those with 1080i to enjoy those 720P games in HD instead of being forced to play them in standard definition. Now that being said does that make the games unplayable being in standard no, they look good in standard but can look better if scaled up from 720P instead of being down scaled to 480P.

Now if people were wanting all games in 1080P than i would agree with Sony not addressing this simply because the power it takes to do that is immense and would render most of the games out there unplayable with horrible framerates this is one feature the 360 got right from the start enabling all games to be scaled to any resolution. I know Sony has given software code to devs for this scaling feature and it appears they will leave it up to them instead of addressing it for good by making it on a firmware update instead and that is not a great solution half the devs have no idea this is an issue either. Thanks in part of the 360 scaling those 720P games to any resolution this is where someone can be fooled to think the 360 is superior to the PS3 when i personally think they both are on par the PS3 later in its life will most likely pull ahead in terms of graphics once devs can tap its true power.

But i love both consoles so i am not in on these fanboy wars that take place all the time around here and every other website about games and gaming in general.

Just one issue i think Sony needs to Address and i would be truly happy with the PS3 other than that the system is superb and some awesome games in the pipeline.

The radio is an awesome idea.
Browser still needs more flash, and a higher memory limit. I'm tired of the "page is too big and has been replaced by a blank page" notification.

IMO the browser is the worst feature on the XMB because of the memory limit and being so god damn slow most of the time (well for me it is).

i have been studying the PS network connections for getting trophy data, to make real time PSN cards on the internet(s), and it seems that its slow because its downloading all the icons everytime, same goes for the avatars lol.. they're all PNG format, an example is found here attached

Custom avatars and MSN's board games will be possible when Home comes :)

Small tweaks, but yeah. Internet Radio should be on PS3 as it was implemented on PSP. Some good ideas there except from...chess? messaging? Uh... Home'll probably do that if that sort of thing is up your street...

What about something like being able to store multiple network settings? Neither the PS3 or 360 have this ability and it's a pain having o put in the WEP keys over and over again when I take mine from my house to my parents or anywhere else for that matter!

I say it every time there is firmware wish list..all I want is a proper music browser with at least A-Z artist folders, not pointless A-Z folders by song title. Perhaps I'm one of the few who uses the PS3's media capabilities to the full as I never hear anyone else raise this issue..except disgruntled guests at my house parties.

it should reorganize your files/music the way you want it to...

everytime i import songs to my ps3 i make sure i organize it by folders starting with the Artist>album>songs...if you use itunes this should be e-a-pie.

when you play a PS2 game, the network connection is disabled...at least it is on 60gb models...same when watching a DVD...I can watch it on my router everytime I try it, and it gives the 'signed in' message when you return to the XMB...not saying that they couldn't change that, but that is the case currently...

BR movies though keeps the connection active, assuming because of all the BD Live stuff...

I just want to be able to charge controllers without having the PS3 fully powered on...and yeah, the turn off after completing downloads would be nice...although I swear I saw that option somewhere on the PS3 the other night when downloading Siren...there is still no option for that from the download management icon?...I thought it was an option when you push triangle over your queue...I must be making stuff up...

and also...not sure what he is talking about with connecting them wirelessly...you can already do that...that came with the DLNA update last year...the PS3 will recognize other PS3's as a media server, and you can stream data back and forth...however you can't play Local games that way...but big deal...you can get a wireless router for 20 bucks at Best Buy...problem solved...

Thanks, I understand all of that but I have 90GBs of music on my PS3..that is almost three minutes of painful scrolling to get to the track I want, all the while watching music icons loading. If it was possible to divide into A-Z folders by artist it would be far more intuitive.
