Gamer 2.0 Preview: Rock Revolution

Gamer 2.0 reports:

''After Rock Band became a huge success, it was known Guitar Hero would have to counter, whether Activision wanted to or not. But the bigger surprise was Konami's announcement of Rock Revolution to get back into the real of expensive plastic band battles. We got some hands-on time with the game but unfortunately it doesn't live up to what is expected of a music game these days.

One of the major differences in terms of gameplay is how the fret board is presented to you. Rather than being at a slant coming towards you, the frets drop straight down. Now, that's fine for Dance Dance Revolution, but it just doesn't work quite as well with a game like this. It's an odd and unnecessary transition. Nobody would have given Konami any grief if they just went with the angled fret board, but it's too late for that.

We weren't able to get our hands on anything but the new drum set (only a Guitar Hero III guitar was available for guitar), and we weren't impressed. Dominated by too much plastic in the first place, the excess pads make the peripheral feel cluttered. Perhaps we've all been too pampered with Rock Band's nice-sized pads, but either way, these are going to take a lot to get used to. We and others nailed plastic more than pads too much of the time. The fret board wasn't too cluttered but did get slightly confusing at times.''

Top Tier: The weak of the rhythm genre, part 2

Grant Potter: "When we left off in part one, the turn of the century found the rhythm/music genre enjoying moderate success. The games were fun, fresh, and innovative; we were happy campers at this point. But who do I mean by “we”? At that given time, it would have been the explorers: the hardcore, the niche. With the exception of big-name games like Dance Dance Revolution and Parappa the Rapper, most rhythm/music games were still obscure. Gitaroo who? Bust a what? Casual players were still ignorant of the speeding freight train that was about to blindside them."

Top 5 Xbox 360 Games You Don't Want On Your GamerCard

GFB writes: "Though some elitists may try and salvage their reputation by claiming it has never happened to them. Everyone has played at least one terrible game in their life. At the same time, a large community of Achievement-Enthusiasts will play just about anything to hear that sacred “Ba-Bloop” from their TV. The point is, bad games exist in an overwhelming quantity and eventually you're going to regret time you spent on one of them. Though not everyone has played the following titles, they are of the most notable and overall gamers would prefer to keep these of their list of played games."

I would put DOA Xtreme 2 at number 1. Plus everyone plays promotional games because they're cheap, silly and fun.

N4G is all jacked up right now. Approval points are still being fixed for members. Half the things don't work. You can't use search or the site crashes. I miss the old site.
