Game Watch interviews SCEK President Shiro Sendai about a variety of subjects.
Former Sony Computer Entertainment Korea Boss Shiro Kawauchi is known for a few exploits, like dying repeatedly during Bloodborne livestreams or getting moved to tears during the local PS4 launch event. Even due to that, he’s loved among Korean fans pretty much like Shuhei Yoshida is appreciated by international PlayStation gamers.
Recently, the good job he did in the past five years in Korea, netted him a promotion, and he has just been named Vice President of Software Business back in Japan, responsible of first, second and third party game business for the whole Japanese and Asia region.
In a recent interview, he provided more color on his new role

Well there is a point of diminishing returns where regardless of what a company is willing to pay the publisher will probably decline when looking at the ecosystem of the platform.
I think the reason Sony will be so successful will be due to three pillars the drives the market:
1) world class first party studios that are industry veterans that have more than proved themselves
2) strategic partnerships with key publishers with marketing and exclusive content for the ps4
3) number one destination for the indie scene and being able to court AA indie titles such as Hellblade (the new mid tier emerging with the fallout of mid level publishers like THQ)

Yet 0 good new 1. party games came out to date. Last gen every indie was on 360 but back than it sure didnt matter right?
All they do this gen is to get marketing for every game to make people think its only on ps. Also alot of people buy into the "Power" and Resolution thing (which didnt matter last gen, because its just nonsense).

There's no point in trying to stretch to make this about equivalence.
Firstly, there have been a good number of GOOD first-party games. Maybe some of them haven't been excellent, but it's a lie to say none have been good. Bloodborne is a first-party Sony game by the way and it's rated above 90 on review score aggregators. He also said "the reason Sony WILL be successful", so their first-party lineup is certainly looking better than ever next year, so no excuses there please.
Secondly, just like Xbox had XBLA and XBLIG channels, PSN had its indie games from day one on PS3. Indie games had a positive focus from gamers and the media on PS3 especially since at least 2007 when PAIN and Super Stardust HD came out on PSN, and especially since 2009 when Flower came out to great reception and Dead Nation the following year (all before PS4 was announced). XBLIG channel in particular had no quality analysis before these games were submitted, whereas indie games nowadays are at least moderated by these companies before they appear on the store, so you don't end up with the vast, vast, vast majority being average to trash like with XBLIG.
The indies this generation on all platforms are also proving to be more ambitious than last gen, and proving that the more you support these smaller devs, their next projects will be more ambitious and eventually allow them to grow and become skilful enough to join AAA studios. On the other end of the spectrum, many of the employees in some of these indie studios are ex-AAA veterans. And best of all, as much as people want to try and pretend is true, from what I've looked into, the majority of indies on PS4 are good games.
Even if you want to refute my points here about the scenarios last-gen, I really don't recall many indie games on the consoles on the scale of No Man's Sky, Boundless, Adrift, Ark: Survival Evolved, SOMA, Outlast, The Talos Principle, The Witness, ABZU, Firewatch, Yooka-Laylee, Hellblade, WiLD, Killing Floor 2, The Forest, RiME etc. There is a reason why indies are a bigger part of the conversation this gen and it's because they are proving to be making such impressive games, compared to what we've seen in the past from indie devs on console, many of which are more interesting in concept and gameplay than some of the AAAs.
Lastly, the "power and resolution" thing makes sense since all those Xbox 360 owners have been returning to PlayStation and are the ones continuing to promote the importance, as well as PlayStation guys just taking advantage of it, but do you really know who are the ones saying it didn't matter last gen VS. who is saying it now?

Didnt knew From Software is 1. Party but oke, you maybe think because Sony helped them with development. But is Tomb Raider also first party because MS helped them? They own the IP and From Software made the game.
So lets pretend its 1. Party, it has 92 on Metacritic, the next nonremaster 1. party games sits on 83 points. Alot of people think Playstation is also rating much above Xbox games, while this is false.

Im not saying good games will come, but we have to wait and see. For now its not the "world class first party studios" everyone was hoping for.
XBLA had the "better" indie games on it and alot of games are just now coming to ps4 and are called "exclusives" like bastion. The Indie section was actually really bad, but it had alot of games and everyone was allowed to publish the games on it.
To start -- that image you posted is horribly outdated. If you're going to have games like State of Decay and Ori on there, then you're missing a great amount of games on PS4. Someone did a terrible job on that list. Very misrepresenting.
1) Yep. Bloodborne is first-party. Sony owns the IP, just like Demon's Souls, which is why FromSoftware had to call the next game Dark Souls to go multiplatform. It was PUBLISHED by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was PRODUCED by SCE Japan Studio and the IP belongs to them until they want to sell it.
Microsoft had no development input on Rise of the Tomb Raider. Only marketing and publishing assistance on the Bone. They didn't produce it, and they didn't 100% publish it, and the IP doesn't belong to them. It's a Square Enix IP and is coming to PC and PS4 next year. Bloodborne is a first-party IP. Tomb Raider is a third-party multiplatform IP. It's not a pretence. It's fact, and it's AAA-rated.
2) Whether or not a game is a remaster, an indie, a Japanese game or whether it has a hollywood blockbuster budget or does not - however you want to categorise a GAME - pound for pound, PS4 has the better rated games. So much senseless prejudice against what is ultimately a game and made for our enjoyment. A lot of people think it has better rated games than the Bone, because it's true and it's not a lie. Those denying it are the liars.
3) Never denied that XBLA had some great games on it. You say: "alot of games are just now coming to ps4", but that is a gross exaggeration. Bastion, Super Meat Boy, ummm what else? What is a "lot"? Bastion is coming because the studio has already released their new game - Transistor, and wanted to make that game available to us. Pretty sure "a lot" of indie games on PS4 are either new games or PC ports, not XBLA ports.
4) Sony does have said world-class first party studios that were making games up until the end of last-gen. We need time for new games to be ready to come out, if those devs were making PS3 and Vita games up until 2012 and 2013. Xbox studios had their hands free since 2010, and were probably working on next-gen games when people were expecting more AAA 360 games - so it goes both ways. I think smart people know what to expect from first-party Sony studios.
Yet i give you a list with average score and you still tell me they are higher rated ;D

You give me an outdated and inaccurate list that was made by somebody with an agenda. It's a highly selective list. I mean look at the bottom left corner - that is disgracefully selective to try and falsify a win for a certain platform. It doesn't list CLOSE to the number of games that are on PS4 and rated higher than is suggested. Why are PC games allowed for example? Does that make it more exclusive than it being on "the competition's console last-gen"? What selective double standards are these? It's pathetic.
Even so..... your list misses out digital exclusive Nero (rated 64) and Neverwinter (66). Both of those takes the 2015 average to lower than PS4's. If the list purposely missed out both of those games, then 2014 will be the same, and PS4 had more releases than that in 2013. Very disingenuous indeed.

Back to your list.... Where is Resogun - for example? If Ori and the Blind Forest is on there, what about all the other 2D sidescrolling indie games on PS4? It's 100% selective, and the person who made it neglected to do a comprehensive job as well.
I already mentioned missing games like Boundless, Firewatch, The Talos Principle, Hellblade, ABZU, SOMA, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Wattam, Killing Floor 2, The Forest, What Remains of Edith Finch, Alienation, The Witness, Matterfall, Hardware Rivals, Bound, Kill Strain, Fat Princess Adventures, Shadow of the Beast, Amplitude, The Tomorrow Children, Drawn to Death. Why are those games not on that list of upcoming games? Where the heck are RiME and WiLD? Where is Dragon Quest XI? Where is Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories?
Another example.... why is Valkyria Chronicles Remaster on there, but not the upcoming Valkyria: Azure Revolution? You've got Yakuza 6 and 0 on there, but why not Yakuza Kiwami? Why is Grim Fandango not on there or Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle Remastered? Where is Hot Shots Golf? Where is Toukiden 2? Why is Heavy Rain/Beyond remastered not on there?
What about all the VR games that aren't coming to Xbox? Robinson: The Journey, REZ: Infinite, Psychonauts: Rhombus of Ruin, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, The Assembly, Harmonix Music VR, Distance, Eagle Flight, Ace Combat 7, RIGS? The list is going to get bigger as time goes on. It's so misrepresentative, it's not even funny.
However, the "not in active development" Phantom Dust is on that list, and the unannounced Forza Horizon 3 is on that list..... OH.... the creator didn't forget to put unannounced or in limbo Xbone games on that list, but failed to put the new God of War game, Sony Bend's new game, Sucker Punch's new game. Even if you want to bring the argument that they also left out a lot of upcoming Xbox games, that still would pale in comparison to the number of announced and unannounced games coming to PS4 and not Xbone.

Which makes this a nonsense. We could argue about Ori. Is it indie if it gets fully funded and marketed by MS? I dont know. Alot of those JAP games dont even have half the budget this game had.

Your rules allow BIG digital games. Many of these fall under that rule, but you won't add them. For obvious reasons. You have no facts to backup your theories on how big the budgets are for these Japanese games, or how big the budget was for Ori. Yet... you will believe Phil Spencer said about a game that we know has been shelved until they decide to revive it, and you still include unannounced games.
God of War IV is a no brainer. Sucker Punch's new game is a no brainer. Bend Studio's new game is a no brainer. Might as well add in The Last of Us 2, cause that's a no brainer. Where are they on your list? You had no hesitation to add the other 2 Xbox games.

At gamescom Ori had a lot of presence vs a little both with 4 ps4 exclusives on it on the side of a clothing shop. Noone would have even saw it. Noone said indies are not games, but those are no reason to get a console for. My personal list doesn't exist - but my only rule is what defines me as a gamer. A GAME IS A GAME. Every game has an opportunity to be good or bad. Your list is trying to expel good and potentially great games from the conversation due to your own biases, and double standards. That, we know for sure.
1) Neverwinter coming to PS4? I forgot about that one - fair enough. Nero is a big digital game - still brings the XB1 2015 average down to 72.5. Update it or accept that you're only not adding it cause you're a fanboy.

See..... you're making up your own rules as you go along. You're breaking your own rules in the process. No Man's Sky is an indie game developed by an indie studio. Sony is NOT developing it. There hasn't been any confirmation of a physical copy either. Are you even serious here, or just trolling?

Explain to me in detail, how an exclusive game on PS4 differs from an exclusive game playable with PSVR. Then explain to me how an exclusive game on XB1 differs from an exclusive game playable with Kinect on XB1. You're not going to be able to come back to me with anything meaningful, which is why having Kinect games on your list and no PSVR ones is so deceitful.
Furthermore, PSVR is as much as a platform for games as XBL or PSN both are. Can you play many of these digital only games without access to the online networks? Can you play some of these PSVR games without the PSVR headset? Same thing.

I understand Sony needs : 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party deals to survive these harsh times in our economy.
Do Japanese gamers want a lot of western games that aren't getting localized? If so, and Sony can bring them what they want that it seems like a good idea to me. I'd be happy if Sony would publish more niche Japanese games in the west.
The article isn't about the deal with Activision in the west. It's about Sony publishing games from other companies (like Activision) in Japan and Asia.
My point still stands. These partnership deals always end up at Sony's conferences and it's tiresome. I don't want to hear about Destiny for another 8 years at every Sony conference, and I'm sure the Japanese gamer base doesn't want to hear about Call of Duty at TGS either.

I've always wondered why we never see more games from game companies outside the usual US, Japan, or certain known areas in Europe.
Games are expensive and very small markets for a lot of the niche titles.
Last gen i really liked a game called last man or something by a small Indian DEv but i don't think it did too well and that was a very small game.

Plenty of reasons of which the more important are low budget, and lack of interest from the crowd...Even some gems from Japan don't ever make it here, which kinda tragic. It shows that diversity is really a hard task nowadays!!!
