Opinion: Is a Multi-Part Release For Final Fantasy VII Really a Bad Thing?

Shortly after the trailer was revealed Square-Enix released a statement explaining how Final Fantasy VII would be a multi-part series.

While we initially had a negative view on this matter, after some thought we see what Square-Enix is going for. Releasing the Final Fantasy VII remake in episodic installments will allow gamers to get their hands on the game faster than if the game came in a complete package.

Hmm, I think I need more information from Square Enix before I can really have a full opinion on this. All the same, I am excited for the remake in general.

As long as we don't know many more details this question can't be answered I believe.

- How big will each game or episode be?
- Will new story details be added?
- Will Crisis Core as example be a part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake?
- Will decisions by the player change the story (yay lets save Aerith or not recruit Yuffie at all) and will these decisions change the story in the following episodes?

Sorry but I don't see the sense in asking the article headline question before these questions are answered. How a couple of bloggers on big gaming sites reacted overly negative to the announcement was quite damaging for themselfes and these websites I think. After reading some of these articles I got the impression that they wrote what they wrote them for popularity and clicks.

As long as the segmentation is only story related and does not impact world map traversal then I'm all for it.

Pozzle3474d ago

Yeah, my main worry is that we might only get the major parts of the game in an episodic release, while the smaller stuff (side-quests, world map traversal, minor scenes, etc) gets cut out. I hope the remake isn't just "FFVII: The cliffnotes version"

averagejoe263474d ago

While I agree with you there, it has already been stated that the remake is going to have more content than the original game...not less.

So, I think we can find some solace in that at least.

Yes

Lets stop trying to sugar coat it because we've been for the game for so long

All we wanted was a simple remake of the original and now they are doing this, this and that with it...trying to over complicate it.

Hoffmann3474d ago

But maybe not everyone of us wanted a simple remake of it?

I mean using the technology and possibilities of today sounds like a good thing to me. Would love to see many story elements from the other FFVII games and maybe even Advent Children being included into a big new FFVII series.

I dont understand? If cyber is working on it why are they doing parts. I wont buy it till a compete edition comes out

averagejoe263474d ago (Edited 3474d ago )

Who says there's going to be a complete edition?

There might be a bundle on sale about 10 years from now when all of the games are of out ala the Mass Effect Trilogy on the ps store.

Not sure there is a "complete" edition for games that have installments other than what I mentioned.

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit123123101d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle311d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
