Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Be "a Multi-Part Series;" Each Part Will Provide a "Unique Experience"

Square Enix just sent DualShockers a press release mentioning that the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a "multi-part series."

Lmfao.. Keep it you a$sholes.

Abash3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

SE needs to clarify exactly what this means. If they are dividing the story of Final Fantasy VII across several full priced games then that is just robbery

RealTrueGamer3478d ago

I hope that's not the case. If we get the full FF7 experience in this Remaster, I will buy it day one; if not, I won't even bother purchasing this thing.

eyeDEVOUR3478d ago

They're likely try to milk both sides(turnbased/action). Episode 1 = F turnbased fans. Episode 2 = maybe put a lil tb in there. Episode 3? = interactive novel ???

Im done with Enix.

kowan3478d ago

Have you ever thought that they may be remaking ALL ff7 games? The whole story of FF7 isn't just in FF7. There's Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, those mobile spinoffs, Advent Children. They are all part of FF7 and each provided their own "unique experiences". Everyone seems to be falling prey to unconfirmed speculation.

Officialxandr3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

Maybe because life is strange did so well they decided to go in a similar approach or could be to get the game out faster. The different experiences has me thinking if one is turn based and the other real time. It's still weird though

eyeDEVOUR3478d ago

@kowan

Nope.. Youre falling prey to wishful thinking and WILD speculation .. lol

NukaCola3478d ago

So that means a couple console games, a DS title and 15 mobile games... oh wait Derge of Cerebus, Advent Children.. why can't square just get their crap together? I hope this isn't episodic or multiple systems/games. Just remaster the game and stop the madness, or keep it.

garrettbobbyferguson3478d ago

How can that be clarified any further? Final Fantasy 7 will now be the same as Final Fantasy 13.

_-EDMIX-_3478d ago

@Kowan is correct, FFVII has other side games they might be trying to add in or trying to fit into the series, ie Crisis Core or Dirge Of Cerberus etc

DevilOgreFish3478d ago (Edited 3478d ago )

"FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.“"

each entry providing it's own unique experience? are they saying the game will play differently with each new part? it's RPG in one part, slasher the next, followed by a mini game in the next?

God i hope not.

pompombrum3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Yeah, they can't just drop a bomb like that and leave it there, they need to be way more specific. I'll say this though, if they're doing it like this and for whatever reason cancel it without finishing the story, they might as well go join Konami in Pachinko because they'll be dead to me and I'll never buy one of their games ever again.

Tech53477d ago

It's probably the quietest way the developers could bring the game over if you think about it. square said years ago if they recreated just midgar it would consume a lot of space and effort. every location. nobody would be able to at least taste the game without waiting some years.

Crimzon3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

My prediction is that each episode is $60 and that over the course of development Nomura will quit to work on another project and Sony will show this game at every single conference that they have for the next six years (and beyond, if we're being honest with how long this game will take to make).

I don't believe for one second that this game will be finished on PS4 either, if they're going the episodic route. The later episodes will be released on PS5 which will not be backwards compatible, but Square-Enix will just so happen to delay the later episodes just long enough to remake/remaster the earlier episodes of FF7 Remake for the PS5. That's right, they're going to remaster the remake.

And the sad fact of it is that what I just wrote is a perfectly realistic prediction. FF7 was a huge game and I'll be shocked if the first episode is anything more than Midgar, which will probably release sometime in 2017.

Wildcard prediction: By the time they get to episode 3 or 4 of the Remake they'll turn to crowdfunding to pay for later episodes because the fanbase will be too invested in the project to say no.

Also, don't forget that Square-Enix themselves said a couple of years ago that it would take them 10 years to remake FF7. Well, I hope you guys are ready!

BLizardXD3477d ago

Cain't wait to play the complete edition on XB1 or NX.

TripleCs3477d ago

Weren't they trying to do this with Hitman as well. It seems like Square is testing the waters of a new business approach. They want you to rush and give them your money by paying now so they can give you the content later and they don't have to wait to get your money. I'm not liking this pay now, get it later approach and I'm shocked that they have the balls to test it out with this game since it's probably their most popular and most fan requested game.

Gaming has truly gone downhill over the years. Smh.. Greed is killing this industry..

Tech53477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki -
"SquareEnix says FF7 Remake's data size so huge; the software will be split into several titles"

Takashi Mochizuki - "I asked, and they said: "to maximize great machine capacity of PS4"
https://twitter.com/mochi_w...

ps4 comes with 500gbs. i wonder how big the data chunks will be for 7 titles.

Outside_ofthe_Box3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Aw man, here we go again!

Can't be excited for anything nowadays it seems.

There's always some catch or setback in regards to something that you'd otherwise be very excited for.

I'm no longer "looking forward"/hyped for the Remake anymore.

I'll buy it when all the "multi-parts" are on one disc.

Typical Square Enix. They did this with the Kingdom Hearts remasters not putting the whole series on one disc, but instead splitting them up in 3 bunches.

Let this be a warning for those looking forward to a new Crash. Some BS likes this could happen to it after you get really excited about it's announcement.

Ugh, I'm extremely disappointed.

rainslacker3477d ago

My god I hope they clarify it soon. They were doing so well this past year. My head about hit the table reading the headline thinking it could mean an episodic release for the game.

Square really knows how to take some of their most exciting things and just slap the customer across the face with things people don't want.

fr0sty3477d ago

I'd say they will be releasing multiple games all within the FF universe, with this remake of the original FF being the base game that establishes the storyline (and is still a remake of the entire first game), with subsequent games being remakes of other FF7 games or even new games entirely that take place in the FF7 universe.

Some of you need to lighten up. Jumping to the worst conclusion automatically and bashing the company for what could very well be a misunderstanding on your part isn't warranted. Let them specify their plans before hating on them.

fr0sty3477d ago

I wouldn't mind it if:

1. Each part represented a game in the FF7 universe.
2. New parts were added as future releases.
3. If they do split the game into chunks, they add enough new content to further flesh out the story that it justifies the cost of the game, or they sell each chunk for cheap.

bouzebbal3477d ago

People are really naive. Do you really think the complexity of FF7 can be remade from A to Z?
I started plating the HD version on Saturday and the more i play it the more i realize that the remake would be impossible to make.
Fun fact, i would actually prefer a multi part series covering different areas of the original rather than one game only scratching the surface.

mechlord3477d ago

@Abash

It IS SE. what do expect? What other motive could they have? they might not price each piece at full retail price, but mark my words: after all "episodes" are out, their cumulative price will exceed greatly $60.

And honestly, at this point i dont understand wtf is going on. They are remastering it and release an "hd port", of the same game in the meantime??

mikeslemonade3477d ago

This is good news now more haters will join my side. I didn't like because it isn't turn based. Screw SE let's not buy this debacle.

Godmars2903477d ago

Actually, it depends what they can do with individual episodes. If 40+ hours of gameplay/story can be delivered, then that justifies $60.

Mind you, Square hasn't shown any ability to tell a story recently. Not Square Japan.

Gazondaily3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Wtf no! Just give us the remake dammit!

Edit- oh gawwwwd people are already defending and making excuses for this. Ffs...

This needs to be clarified asap but atm it just sounds crappy

Game4Next3477d ago

SONY stop giving money to an episodic Game !!!
SONY stop buying episodic games exclusivity !!!

Lightning Mr Bubbles3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Maybe they're going the Destiny route. I don't care, money isn't an issue. This is a full remake, maybe they're expanding the story. Maybe they're making it a trilogy, I don't know.

Honestly, I don't care how they deliver it, as long as the quality of the game is there, I'll pay whatever.

Lets face it, DLC and things like that are setting the stage, the way games are being delivered is changing, like it or not, I think this is a sign of where the future of gaming is headed.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Also, why are some people calling it a remaster? Have you guys seen what the original game looks like? This is the furthest thing from a remaster, this is a full out remake.

fr0sty3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

After reading the texts, the size of the game data is too big to fit into one game, so they're splitting it up. They did say that new content is being added as well, so perhaps they're expanding the FF7 universe and storyline to the point where multiple games will be necessary.

I'm not going to hate on this until I learn more about it, they haven't disappointed me so far.

R6ex3477d ago

SE, your episodic FF13, FF13-2, FF13-LR was a failure!

Don't make the same mistake with FF7 Remake!

alvgamin4lif3477d ago

If they end up doing this then I won't purchase this remaster. Since they are planning a episodic release, the full experience should add upto the $60 price point. Otherwise I'm out.

DemonChicken3477d ago

Please read before the inevitable petitions and pitch forks

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fi...

TheCommentator3477d ago

If the data size for the remake is too large to fit on one disc, they could release a multiple disc title. I mean, I remember FF7 was originally a multiple disc release on PS1, so why did SE forget? Actually, didn't they leave Nintendo and pioneer multi-disc gaming for this reason alone???

SE = Screw Everyone

First we wait 10 years to get confirmation on the remake, now we'll have to wait 10 years more to see the release of all the installments... Face palm.

#4ThePlayers tho lmao

edit: @abash, your always trying to spin shit man what more is there to clarify? seems pretty clear to me, they are screwing us over and that is that

Crimzon3478d ago

Yup, what's the bet that each episode of FF7 Remake is a full-price $60 purchase?

I joked that we'd be seeing FF7 Remake at every single Sony conference for the next three years or so because of how long it would take and how much they'd milk it, but in light of this recent news I might as well double my prediction to six years, because we all know how this is going happen.

God, what a crappy console generation this is turning out to be. Remasters/remakes galore, less and less content for higher prices, episodic games everywhere, multiplayer locked behind paywalls, pay-to-win microtransactions infesting full-price retail games.

TwoForce3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Hitman is also do the same thing. Sorry for double post.

fr0sty3477d ago

for all you know it could mean sequels to follow this game that are set in the FF7 universe... but you'd rather just jump to conclusions.

Vhampir3477d ago

Ok... all SE had to do to market this game was whisper "We're remaking Final Fantasy 7" to anyone and that's all they would have needed for advertising.

This may end up like RE Revelation 2, or We could get FF7R, FF7R-2, FF7R-3++

I stopped caring about a remake around 2006, after they pulled that tech demo BS.

alvgamin4lif3477d ago

Nice stealth trolling. Now go back to the cave you crawled out of.

The thing they need to clarify is that whether they'll slice up the game into multiple episodes or whether it's ff7, crisis core and advent children making up those "episodes". Also we don't know whether they'll charge $60 for each episode. But hey, you seemed to jump to conclusions without applying an ounce of common sense and try to troll about a completely irrelevant matter in the process.

Dabigsiebowski3478d ago

He has been confirmed not to be involved and I'm not buying a milked product. Final fantasy vii was a complete product. This isn't. If they were more transparent and discussed their budget and where that sits right now in development then people would understand. But if it's not the full story from the get go then just forget it.

Bahamut3478d ago

Baaaaaa hahahahaha... Multi-part, ROFL. That AND it's an action hack n slash now? Too funny.

Ricegum3477d ago

Oh not this guy again. Your comments are cringeworthy. Please be gone.

Bahamut3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

@Unreal01

Cringe away! Because I'm not going anywhere!
I said in the other article that this remake is going to be garbage and a disappointment, and this announcement further solidifies that statement. So go ahead, hate my comments, I don't mind, but the truth remains.

But the graphics are nice, and the cutscenes DO look interesting. Shame the gameplay is going to be lackluster, and now this... episodic? Meeehhhh

MRMagoo1233477d ago

I hate it as much as you. All I ever wanted was a massively overhauled ff7 same turn base combat same story just brought to present day graphics. They could add extra story if they want some extra side missions what ever but this game is looking like ff13 the abortion of an rpg.

kowan3478d ago

Really, I would say so if anyone from Square actually confirmed anything but no one did. Just pure speculation from people and you are all believing it. I wonder what your reactions will be if they ever confirm the remakes of the whole ff7 collection. Until then, I will stand by my belief. If they do release it as an episodic game, then I will stand corrected.

Swiftfox3477d ago

In the end it financially makes more sense for them to give this game the Hobbit treatment. Games today are incredibly expensive to make thanks to the demand of high fidelity graphics. It makes more sense financially to sell the game in chunks, and given the level of fidelity I'd say full price $60 chunks.

Like the Hobbit release, you'll most likely see things changed, altered, and added to create 3 act structure "complete" games.

It doesn't make financial sense for SquareEnix to develop a game over 6-7 years packed with high end graphics, sound, and everything everyone remembers from the original requiring hundreds of millions of dollars only to sell a 3-4 disc game for $60 a pop.

Also most tie in Final Fantasy 7 games were licensed to Sony consoles. So in order for them to be seen on the Xbox One or the future Nintendo console they would need to be remade--not just given HD treatment. It would be a huge cost in itself.

Can you just wait and see what the actual content of the game is before you complain? What if FF7-1 is a 40 hour experience packed with content. You don't know everything so just wait for more information to make such a strong judgement.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

LOL it gonna be like PS1 all over again but instead of 3 Disc it might be 6 Parts. But the bad thing is the price for each 6 individual parts unlike switching disc.

3-4-53477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

* Splitting Full game into multiple parts to milk it = F You Sony

* If they're releasing full FF7, & THEN releasing more of a story to add on, then that = good.

If they are milking it they can just shove it where the sun don't shine.

The gaming industry, has become hollywood. Remakes and multi-part series.

bow2yoda3477d ago

Hollywood bought themselves into games a few years ago. they just want to sell you an interactive movie is all. This will be a HUGE bust

DafunkyRebel3477d ago

Use your brain man this could be a good thing. If it comes out in episodes then you could buy EP1 for a low price and see if it lives up to the original and it doesn't then no harm done cause now you can skip the rest of the game. If you had to buy a full price FFVII at 60 bucks and find out it's sucks then you wasted a bunch of money and will regret that decision to buy it

SUCKxITxEZ3477d ago

And what if it's not, and we missed or only chance to stop them from messing this up? It took like 40 hrs to get through midgar, which is far less than 1/4 the game.

the way the games industry treats gamers is disgraceful

pcz3477d ago

fps episode

quick time event episode

side scrolling platform episode

shoot em up episode

garbage

madpuppy3477d ago

Great, and I bet they all end in a cliffhanger that leaves you feeling cheated and unsatisfied.

But, wait! for only $65.00 more...

It seems like every Developer/Publisher is looking for a Madden/call of duty cash cow so they can get the most money with the least value to the customer.

alvgamin4lif3477d ago

That's why it would be wise to wait and get the complete experience in one go (and possibly at a cheaper price to boot!)
I haven't played ff7 yet but if I can wait all those years then a couple of more won't hurt.

Artemidorus3477d ago

pcz3477d ago

PEOPLE NEED TO PETITION

El_Assenso3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

eyeDEVOUR you're spot on. Square Enix can shove it where the sun don't shine.

This so called 'episodic crap' screams of cash grab. If a massive game like the Witcher 3 with top notch graphics can fit onto one disk with plenty of space to spare, why can't FF7!? If need be use two blu-ray disks but keep the game as one wholesome package.

This episodic crap will ruin the whole game, story, atmosphere and build up to the great moments in FF7 for newcomers, and obliterate it for people who have played it already. Looks like Enix is back on their suicide mission to ruin their own-selves.

I bet it will be like FF13, where each new episode will be a full blown $60 buy. All of my friends are huge FF7 fans, and they're all furious. F**K O** Square Enix.

LordMaim3477d ago

Yes, let's all rage about something before we have any information whatsoever. We don't know how many episodes will be released, or how long each would be, or the cost of each one, or if there will be a physical release at the end, or what new content will be added to the game, or how the combat will be structured, or just about any other defining aspect of the game aside from the graphics.

But yes, by all means let's start raging now before facts get in the way of a good panic/trolling.

Muzikguy3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

Ok if this is true then I'm really done with this game. It also just goes to prove how developers are getting lazy. What was once a single full priced game, now they wand to divide it up and sell parts?! If that's true I never want to hear someone try and defend a developer for being lazy. This is ridiculous

I guess I just can't figure out why SE is so out of touch. They finally decide to do a game that everyone has been asking for and decide to do something so stupid that they're going to kill the game before it gets here

kevnb3477d ago

not let them "milk us". lol I'm saying let them make money if they can. There is NOTHING wrong with a company doing its best to profit from their creations. They put the work in, they make the franchise. If you don't like their latest, you have the right not to buy. But I don't see why they shouldn't be able to profit from it, if they can keep consumers happy. You should do what your name says.

Were you also upset when they made the last Harry Potter book into 2 movies? I wasn't. You know why? because they did a good job.

Cha0tik3477d ago

People just want to find a reason to complain without any clarification of what is really taking place. They don't understand the business part of it and they don't want to pay for good hard work. We don't know the details of it being episodic and who knows... it could be a free first episode and the rest end up being like $15 to $30 each with a "Buy it all now" option for $60. We don't know the details and complaints are already everywhere.

Yes, it is sad, "bro".

rainslacker3477d ago

Same here. Episodic implies digital only, and if it's not digital only then it will be full price at retail. They'd have to really outdo themselves in each part to really justify that for me.

Sucks I'd have to wait longer though, but come on, how can SE screw up that bad for this?

I'm really hoping this is one of those moments where they just assumed people would know what they were talking about, and come out and clarify something more to the whole series in general. I won't hold my breath though, because SE has a unique ability to turn the happiest news into the most groan-worthy news.

ninsigma3477d ago

They gained so much good will so far this gen. Yes a few blips here and there but nothing crazy. This could throw all of that out of the window. I'm hoping it just means the sequals and prequels and what not. I mean, who wants to play an rpg bit by bit?? The whole point is that they're long games and gamers are in it for the long haul! If they really wanted to try out episodes they should have done it with 15, not 7.

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.
