The Game Awards 2015 took place this week and CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt stole the show and walked away with a few awards in hand, but that’s not all it took.
Mods represent some of the best work happening in video games. These additions have allowed folks to introduce anime boys to Stardew Valley or put Margaret Thatcher’s grave in Skyrim because modding has become a central part of gaming culture and development.
The Game Awards 2025 isn't until December 11, 2025, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is already an obvious choice for multiple categories at the show. The Game Awards is one of the biggest annual events in the gaming industry. Each year, millions of gamers tune in to see big world premiere reveals and find out which games take home its various awards.
The Game Awards has been a massive success and it just keeps getting bigger. However, it has also received plenty of criticism. There have been complaints about games getting snubbed at The Game Awards, as well as eyebrows raised at certain nominees, like when Elden Ring DLC was in contention for Game of the Year at the latest event. Some have also taken issue with the nomination cut-off date, as games from mid-November to the end of December are not eligible in their year of release and instead have to wait for the following year to get nominated. There are times when this has led to titles getting overlooked, but that hopefully won't happen with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
There are many 2025 gaming anniversaries to celebrate, including Life is Strange, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Super Mario Bros.
Mmm the internet people will always disagree or get butthurt when their favorite game doesn't win and trash the winner. It happens in Baseball and every other medium too.
I remember the GTA5 fanboys declaring GTA5 as winner because it's GTA, and then TLOU outta nowhere wiped the floor with it and Bioshock Infinite. Lots of haters still trash TLOU calling it overrrated and how their game should have won and that doesn't matter. TLOU proved it was a masterpiece and also proved exclusives can be also big contenders againts big games like GTA.
And after all that overwhelming recognition, TLOU reached another milestone in sales. It should be closed to 9 million by now, if not more. So, GOTY winners do get more attention than the nomines. We'll see Witcher 3 getting a new milestone as people in the show and the internet people that didn't play it will find out what's the hype about. And I hope they do because W3 is a another Masterpiece.
The Witcher is an incredible game, Presentation, Gameplay, Story, Art Direction, Soundtrack, besides the fact there was a ton of FREE DLC before the bigger pay for pieces.... Well deserved Game of the Year....Other publishers should take notes on how it should be done....
Game of the Year awards are like T-ball trophies.
Everyone gets one and they don't mean a damn thing.
How many GOTY editions of games come out 6 months after release?
All that being said, Witcher 3 is the best game released this year.
Prefer Fallout 4 myself but Witcher 3 was great also.
In the end it doesn't matter, sales do matter. In that regard this game winning GOTY is well deserved just by the passion of the team behind it.
They add so much content from the get go with letters thanking their fans and giving great support when it comes down to fixing issues.
They really listen to feedback, very rare these days, keep being who you are CDPR.
