Sony: PS2 Games Coming To PS4 Is Not Exactly Backwards Compatibility

Sony announced yesterday that a host of PS2 games will be playable on the PS4. The company has had to clarify that this is not exactly meaning that backwards compatibility is coming to the console yet.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, was busy and active on his official Twitter account answering many questions that the PlayStation community threw at him. He had to clarify that the PS2 emulation does not mean backwards compatibility is coming to the PS4 console.

He said: “We’ve been explaining that PS4 does not have backward compatibility“. All that they are doing right now is re-releasing several PS2 games on the PS4’s PlayStation Store. These games will be upscaled to 1080p to look better and will have trophy support too. You can also do all of the cool stuff like Share Play, Remote Play etc.

The kind of bad news is that if you bought PS2 Classics on the PS3, these will not carry over to the PS4. Essentially, you may have to pay to play the games all over again…
