PS4 finally gets official emulation possibility of PS2 games.
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is among one of the first games which we have posibility to play on PlayStation 4.

Still with proper plug ins, even a mid range gaming laptop running PCSX2 looks better. Still, a mid range gaming laptop costs about $150 more than the PS4 does right now.

What about this is impressive? The hardware they're working with is 2 generations ahead. Nothing about this is impressive. Everything looks slightly smoother but anyone with PCSX2 can run this at x2 native resolution and it would probably look a little better than the PS4 version (or at least as good). The PS4 could probably run the game at x4 native resolution. Look at GTA V and look at this game and tell me how the PS4 being able to run a marginally smoother San Andreas is impressive.

The only working emulator struggles to run even the most basic PS3 games, and the site for the emulator that the video links to requires you to complete a survey before getting the download. The PS4 uses a downclocked AMD Jaguar APU. It was designed for low-mid range laptops. Full PC APUs, even entry level ones, are far more powerful.

PCSX2 disables several of San Andreas' post-processing effects, because it can't emulate them correctly (fyi, it does this for hundreds of the games it supports). That's why the title looks brighter/sharper, because it doesn't have the effects for heat-waves and camera over-exposure.

Of course it's debatable whether that's an improvement to the game or interfering with the "way the devs intended."

It does look a little better on PS4. I didn't expect that, I thought they would just be straight transfers. So that's actually a plus I guess.

Not sure if there's anything I would want to try again from PS2. I'll probably do Vice City, just driving around with some of that music is always epic. I'm sure I'll think of some others just to get the feeling of nostalgia and maybe there was something interesting I never tried.

If they ever release Manhunt 2, I never tried that, I actually liked the first one, which I know a lot of people didn't. Actually, just last week I was thinking of buying Castlevania: Lament of Innocence and Cruse of Darkness from the PS3 store, actually, Curse of Darkness they didn't have.

San Andreas isn't now. The new version they have on PS3 PSN is 720p and now has trophy support. Also if you have the PS2 Classic version you are not entitled to the 720p version, showing it is not entirely the base classic.

Is that legal? If the argument against PS2 games on PS4 is 'just pirate them' then something is sideways here. The trophy support was originally speculated to be something that the emulator was capable of, but Sony has said that they collaborated with the original devs on the new trophy support so they are doing extra work on top of the original development of the games....I'd personally rather support developers & gaming in general w/ $10 or $15 here & there than just steal a bunch of stuff....isn't piracy one of the main reasons that PC gaming has had excessive DRM measures, buggy games, and fewer actual AAA exclusives?

Is there like a copyright timeframe in effect? Because it's like 70 years for music, I don't know the legality of the emulation on PC, so you probably know more than me, but I would think it'd seem shady to download games you don't own. If it's legal then more power to you guys...not sure why it would make a difference if it was the PC version vs. the ps2 version as they'd be the same base game, but again, I don't know.

I wouldn't buy this one in particular because I've already played it, but I'd pick up games i never tried but always wanted to...granted, I'd rather them be on sale for $10 or under, but that's just me. Not trying to say this is some amazing deal, but it's a good start in my eyes, only time will tell if it gets better or goes downhill from here. This isn't a BC solution, they announced at launch that PS4 wouldn't support BC and that remains true, but bringing more games to the platform is always a plus in my eyes. Personally I'm more into new games so there are only very rare instances where I'd ever pick up an old game.

Yeah, I know this isn't for everyone. My original comment was for the guy bummed about this not being true emulation. Basically having the entire PS2 library available to him. I was letting him know if that's what he truly wanted and doesn't have a PS2. The emulator I mentioned can run PS2 games on integrated graphics. May not be able to bump the resolution, textures, shadows, and all those bells and whistles but it would run pretty smoothly.

As for the PS2 vs PC version, they are completely different. You have to install the software on your PC and run it like an application. It would have installation folders and all that jazz. With the PS2 ISO, you just launch the emulator and run it like a PS2 game.

In my opinion, the games need to be $5 a piece for this to make any kind of sense. If it's true that this game is $15, that's just entirely too much money to pay for a game that's been released on every platform imaginable.

If Sony can keep prices to $5 I can see this taking off. You won't miss $5, that's an impulse buy. $15 is much too much to be asking for this or any PS2 game.

If you download a game that you do not already own that is copyright theft and illegal.

@jb227: It is absolutely piracy to download PS2 isos. In fact, depending on where you live, in a lot of places under copyright law it is still illegal even if you own the physical version of the game.

Even PC abandonware is still illegal, but often skates by since the companies that make the games have been dissolved or bought by other companies, either they aren't around to sue, or the rights to the game are disputed meaning that they're not sure who should be suing.

Where did you find that it was a port of the iOS versions? So they went to the trouble of emulating everything else, and those games are running at 2x the framerate & 4x the resolution, but they just ported the iOS version in this instance? Sounds suspect to me....also never heard that they removed songs for this release...if so, that's a bummer, but that's the sorrows of licensing music in particular...have a source for that?
