Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise has been around since 1987, but it’s only been recently that the game has emerged as a global eSports title. During Sony’s PlayStation Experience (PSX) fan event at Moscone Center in San Francisco on Dec. 6, the Capcom Cup will award $250,000 to the top eight Ultra Street Fighter IV players from around the globe. That’s up from just a $50,000 prize pool last year at a much smaller venue hosted by Capcom.
Following the announcement of its super-positive financial results, Capcom hosted a Q&A session for investors and analysts, teasing a big unannounced game.
Monster Hunter World 2! Or whatever they decide to call it. Oh, it's going to be massive!
Re9 maybe they did say a new re engine had been in development still it's probably to soon
45 million is a lot, and March isn't that far away for something that's unannounced.
EDIT: "The company has sold, in the first half of the fiscal year, 22.6 million units of its video games, but that's only half of its annual target of 45 million units."
^ Ah, that makes sense! I thought that was bloody unrealistic lol
Resident Evil is painfully stuck in the dark ages. Another Dino Crisis? That was a Resident Evil clone. Can’t see Powerstone 3 anytime soon. There isn’t anything else I’d like to see from CAPCOM as in a sequel. CAPCOM are scared of new IPs, which is why it churns out endless Resident Evil games.
Capcom didn't turn Street Fighter into a global esport, it just jumped on the bandwagon at a good time. The people who deserve the credit for where Street Fighter is at competitively today is the grass root tournament organizers whose dedication, passion and tireless hard work made it all possible to begin with.
To Capcom's credit though, they've done a great job with Capcom Cup and increasing the exposure and stakes in all the various tournaments that are held throughout the year but ultimately none of this would have ever happened or been possible if it wasn't for the hard work from the various well known members of the FGC who have been running tournaments for years.
