Awesome PS4 Dynamic Theme with Real Time Day/Night Cycle Released: Screenshots and Video Inside

If you follow themes for PS4, you know that the folks at Truant Pixel usually deliver in spades. They did so again with their newly released “Tiny Tropics” theme, which is now available on the North American PlayStation store for $2.99.

My first thought everytime I see the charged for themes. Why they can't support user generated ones still/again is beyond me... Guess money talks.

You should be able to, I download the free themes from the Japanese PSN and they work perfectly fine on my UK account

Is really a good theme but the tiles is where they lost me. I hope they could update it or make a version without those tiles.

Hi Guys, theme creator here. Couldn't help but notice the comments, thought I should reply:

I actually started on the tile design concept before I designed the backdrop. The style was ultimately chosen because of the visibility during different times of day, since the color changes and different hues tended to wash out the more minimalist styles. The same goes for just 'leaving the tiles alone', the basic PS4 hues contrasted in a way I just didn't like with some of the midday and late night colors. I thought about white icons as well, but they really stand out harshly during the dark hours. Besides fitting the beach theme, the sandy-tiles were a fairly neutral color that's easy to read during both day and night without sticking out too much.

More importantly, remember, the videos we've captured have no game or app tiles. when the theme is actually running on a kit with stuff installed, your game tiles really fill up the menus and the function tiles tend to cede into the background anyway. the idea, again, was to create little sandcastles between your apps, to give the impression of being at the beach.

I've gotten a lot of good and critical feedback, though, and I'll take it to heart. We can't really release a variant of this theme, since it tends to cause confusion (We had some issues with that with our holiday themes) But we've got more coming out soon that's more subdued, which may be more your style. Still, if the tiles are the only thing holding you back, I'd check out some videos of the theme in action on youtube running on a retail kit, the effect is honestly pretty nice, in the end: https://youtu.be/XHyORk18HE...

Update here. After talking to some folks at Sony, they might allow us to do a variant of this. I've gotten started on it, and you guys might see something pop up in the next couple of weeks :)
