Nintendo said please kindly cease and desist, obviously.

Odd though, Ninty actually sponsors (did) in the past if I remember correctly, in fact, I don't know if there was an Evo since this launched that they didn't acknowledge or sponsor Project M.

Probably related to all the NX/Wii U stuff going on. Maybe they think doing this will increase the revenue/value of the current SSMB games?

DiscoKid3491d ago

There was no cease and desist.

Either you didn't read the article, or you are a very horrible troll.
There was no C&D order; the Project M team decided they want to move on to a new project.

Sad

But I'm also kind of glad their is a final version and it is the most balanced. So I'm glad they went out on a high note. I also remember them teasing Awakening Roy and ZZS alts. Guess that's not happening :/

Anyways development might be over but I'll still playing this just like Melee.

wonderfulmonkeyman3490d ago

Sad for the fans, but they did more than enough to make it excellent.
Meanwhile, we've still got Smash 4 to play, if this ever gets boring.

Neonridr3490d ago

maybe Nintendo hired the guy to work on extra content for Smash.. ;)

To me smash brows Melee is my all time favorite. I can't tell you how many hours I played that game between friends and family. When I was a kid, my parents couldn't afford a gaming console so I had to go somewhere that had an arcade like setup with the only difference being instead of arcade cabinets, they had big screen crt TV's and gaming consoles setup. I would go with my friends on special occasions after school or with my family on the weekends.

I would meet and make new friends at that place as we were all gamers and we also brought our game boys and would trade pokemon. I don't think those places exist these days but back then, it was easy to meet like-minded people and have fun for hours.

Well, I’ll add my extremely subjective ranking too. I won’t include the 3DS version as I don’t owned it. I did play it for a few minutes though.

5. Brawl.
4. N64 Smash
3. Ultimate
2. Wiiu Smash
1. Melee

BlaqMagiq1133d ago

Yup Ultimate for me BY FAR is my favorite.

I feel bad for Smash fans. Those guys have been trying to maintain the scene active for 20+ years and get nothing but hate from Nintendo.

RoseSapphire764d ago

Sakurai explains how he and Nintendo still don't understand how the internet works.

Snookies12764d ago

Exactly, online play would be wonderful on Smash if Nintendo gave a crap about their online services. To be fair though, Nintendo's online offerings would be great if it were 15-20 years ago lol.

jambola763d ago

I've always said that Nintendo is either innovative and ahead of the curve
or 20 years behind, no in between

CrimsonWing69764d ago

I’m sorry, but if a game is MP then there’s no f*cking argument that can justify no online MP. What he says about competition being different from just playing with friends shows me how out of touch these people are.

It’s not until a new generation that understands things steps in to clean-house that we’ll see some evolution here.

Vanfernal764d ago

His argument is nonsensical. "You'd be limited to just playing people from your region". As opposed to being limited to playing people FROM YOUR COUCH!

CrimsonWing69764d ago

What I don’t get is how do you not have competition and experience the same issue if you have a friend that’s way better than you?

GoodGuy09764d ago

It's a big fighting game so online multiplayer is a must. Competitive smash is the only thing I see fun in these games anymore asides from the big character reveals, singleplayer is laughable and you ain't gunna have people over for couch gaming much.

If Nintendo makes a new smash, it needs a huge evolution for singleplayer/couch play to be enjoyable for me any more. But we all know they'll just do a deluxe edition for their next console lol. They really need to up their servers as well.

NotoriousWhiz764d ago (Edited 764d ago )

I can't imagine Nintendo producing a better smash game than ultimate. Roll it forward with a deluxe edition maybe with an extra character or two and call it a day.

Some other developers can try pushing platform fighters to the next level, because I don't think Nintendo is up to the task.

DarthZoolu763d ago

They already created a better smash brothers game than ultimate when they created melee

masterfox764d ago

he sounds more like is trying to justify Nintendo ineptitude to create a proper network infrastructure in order to Smash Brothers work properly online.
