Fallout 4: A Game I Love but Not the One I Wanted

While Fallout 4 may be one of my favourite games this year, there seems as if there is something missing from the over all experience that has let me down

Yea playing this now and I have to agree with the title alone.

It's a great Fallout game but it really does fall a tad flat with my expectations of how the next installment should have been on these new consoles.

Especially after playing other open world games like MGS and Witcher 3.

Bahamut3498d ago

The Witcher 3 is just so damn good.

gangsta_red3498d ago (Edited 3498d ago )

Witcher 3 is very good but it's the little things that game did that spoiled me with open world games.

The no loading when going in and out of buildings was the biggest thing. Deadrising on X1 had this also and it's definitely makes a difference.

Not to mention other little things like dumb AI. Having raiders stepping over their partners bodies that have been recently blown to chunks really stands out.

It's a shame that Bethesda spent this much time on this game and it isn't anything different from Fallout 3 in fact a step back a little from 3.

This is my fallout and im hooked! Seems that fallout veterans are upset with some of the changes from rpg to more shooter than rpg. Im not the deep hardcore rpg type of person,im more a fps fan that likes openworld games that shoot and loot. This game delivers that in the best way I've come across! I love it!

pumpactionpimp3498d ago

Your opinion is fine, and I'm quite glad you're enjoying the game. But in a world with fewer and fewer unique rpgs, like what fallout 3 and morrowind/oblivion before it brought us. It's becoming a rarity to find rpgs that are pushing things in a new direction. In fact mass effect 1 to 2 to 3, became more of a casual shooter as the series progressed. The elder scrolls and fallout series seem to be following the same path. I get that companies do this to appeal to larger crowds of gamers. But it's starting to sicken a lot of loyal rpg players. So you can understand the frustration that I, and other rpg lovers are begining to feel.

objdadon3498d ago

I understand completely where you're coming from. Im part of the crowd they wanted to appeal to. While the game definitely satisfies me, it pushes true rpg gamers like yourself away.

all you did what state how you feel.

what exactly were you looking for in fallout 4?

CJ64Bit3497d ago

InTheZoneAC, I cover a good amount of the issues in the article. Odds are you fall in tge camp that prefers shooters over RPGs since Fallout 4 does lean more heavily on those aspects while pushing some if not most of it's RPG mechanics to the side in favor for a more streamlined action game that will appeal to a wider audience. To have a more in deoth awnser, please read the article.

I love the game but damn it feels so outdated in so many levels.

gangsta_red3498d ago

Wow, exactly. I was playing it and I was trying to put my finger on what I felt was wrong but the main issue is that right there.

Great game but not the leap I was expecting from this game.

MadLad3498d ago

The Witcher 3 raised the bar for the open world RPG.
Fallout 4 played it safe, all the while limiting, or outright removing, elements of the RPG from previous titles; especially when you consider the title prior was New Vegas.

It's a great game, but it's very dissimilar to Bethesda's attempts at the Fallout series prior.
It's not the direction I was hoping for in the series going forward.

InTheZoneAC3498d ago

what exactly did they do that you don't like? All I see from people are blanket "it wasn't what I was hoping for" statements and not a single one pointed out a single thing they wish they did differently.

To me fallout 4>fallout 3>fallout new vegas

CJ64Bit3497d ago

Not to be rude but I point out a good amount of features that I miss and how this entry differs with it's content to justify my "thus isnt what I had hoped for" feeling.

I think i made the mistake of giving Mama Murphy too many chems. Because I could never get my settlement past 98% happiness, and it even cost me the Platinum.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro60d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.

New Vegas and Morrowind should have been first!

Christopher68d ago

Fairly certain we all know that New Vegas isn't getting anything because it's not a Bethesda developed game.

OMGitzThatGuy68d ago

MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it.

Christopher68d ago

***MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it. ***

I think the issue is that it's not a Bethesda developed game, not that MS owns both. This is more about Todd.

RaidenBlack68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Yep ... Todd doesn't like getting bettered within his own IP scope.
I still think of the Elder Scrolls spin-off Obsidian pitched similar to New Vegas, but Todd rejected.

RaidenBlack68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Replayed NV more than FO3 ... so I appreciate the FO3 remaster more.
For NV, I'd much prefer a sequel or a spinoff from Obsidian.

FTLmaster68d ago

Got a soft spot for Fallout 3, so I'd be down to play this.

-Foxtrot68d ago

It's crazy New Vegas wasn't worked on first to launch alongside Fallout Season 2.

They could have added all the cut content they had planned but didn't have enough development time to add, possibly even expand on it a little more. For example, have the Vegas strip as one big hub over being chopped into smaller sections we have to keep loading into.

neutralgamer199268d ago

Would love a complete remake or sequel with enough resources

Abnor_Mal68d ago

The only Fallout game I’ve played, PS3 had to keep stopping every few minutes to save. Next thing I knew the credits were rolling and I never did any side quest. I never replayed the game because of all the bugs the game had.

Yui_Suzumiya68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

I've played Fallout 3 more than any game. I lost count many years ago of how many times I finished it. It was my first Platinum trophy. But yeah, it was buggy on PS3 at launch before it got properly patched.

anast68d ago

They are only remaking their games that have been streamlined.
