"Horror games are based around trial and error. You'll slowly tiptoe down a corridor, peeking around every corner and poking your flashlight into every shadow… then suddenly, a skulking, unknowable beast punches through a vent in the ceiling, grabs you, and turns you into his latest snack. So you go back to the last checkpoint and do it all over again – this time, carefully stepping around the area under the vent. There's certainly appeal in the tension that comes from being punished by repetition, but for many, after their initial scares wear off, these experiences become exercises in frustration."
