Sexism in the gaming world is very much alive and is an issue that needs to be addressed. In CSI, Bria Jordan, a female gamer, has witnessed this sexist behavior first hand in the classroom.
I agree wholeheartedly! I've personally gotten my asz handed to me on multiple occasions.
Except Anita Sarkeesian
And her legion of "victims"
I think Anita Sarkeesian disagreed with you xD I honestly cannot fathom how these articles are appearing in this day and age. How are there still people who don't see girls as gamers?? I've had plenty of chats with girls about games and they're often more knowledgeable than guy gamers I've spoken to. It's crazy I say!
Attention: We already know that :) And people who think otherwise needs a reality check or mostly likely got his butt handed out to him by a girl and doesn't want to admit it.
omg who cares
It doesn't matter the gender. There are wannabe gamers from both. Unfortunately it's the girls we hear about more.
Ugh.. this stuff makes me cringe. No one cares.
They are real games except most of them on twitch who show more tits then game just to get donations
"Most" you mean the ones with big viewer numbers... There are hundreds of female streamers that aren't cam whores.
Attention: Water is wet. See I can't state the obvious too, I just don't need to make an article to do so.
I welcome female gamers! What I don't welcome is the political agendas that use girls gamers as pawns to try to justify all sorts of control or censorship over the industry, which is usually what's behind these kinds of articles
Who said they weren't? Most of my friends are gamer girls, they're all awesome and run circles around the "OMG360NOSKOPEZ" Dudebros.
Excuse me, what's wrong with landing a sick 360 n0 sKope? Git gud, sKrub.
The thumbnail image totally doesn't sexualize female gamers /s
The poor damsel, I mean real gamer is just hungry
100% this. Why chose that image if you are trying to make this point?
A lot of them don't act like it. A lot of them use video games as a means for attention by poking their boobs and booty cheeks out just so they can abuse the system and make money off of it. If you're a gamer why do you feel the need to expose your body parts to the world and flaunt that you're a female? I also thinks it's pretty ironic that I constantly here all these feminist complaining about video games degrading woman by having them wear revealing clothing and yet a lot of these female gamers are also degrading themselves by doing the same exact thing. So you expect people to respect you when you don't even respect yourselves? If you're a gamer then act like a gamer. Don't act like a you know what.
Female gamers make up almost 50% of the gamer population at this point. None of them where mics because doing so is asking to get sexually harassed. That's pathetic and we should be ashamed of ourselves.
50% of the population if you include cell phone games the actual ratio is much smaller
Ok. Keep telling yourself that. Most women who play console games turn their mics off when playing online to avoid sexual harassment, that's a fact. And a very large percentage of console/PC gamers are female at this point. I'd point you to one study, but there's so many out there now you can just google it for yourself.
Those numbers are BS. Women do not make up 50% of console gamers. Women don't make up 50% of PC gamers either. If women were actually 50% of either market there would be more games geared towards them.
What exactly do you mean by "more games geared toward us"? Oh, I'm sorry, do you think girls only play games about Barbies and unicorns? My current-gen console collection includes (but is not limited to) COD, Witcher, Shadows of Mordor, and most recently Halo 5. I didn't realize I was apparently playing games not geared toward me. Look up "naive" and "ignorant" and then get back to me k?
No, they don't. That number was achieved by asking a question so vague that my dead goldfish could qualify as a gamer. You MIGHT see a number approaching 50% in handhelds, but the vast majority of people called gamers are still male. As for being harassed, they can join the club. That they find a less welcoming atmosphere in online games than males us a fallacious argument created solely for the purpose of drumming up sympathy. Otherwise, why not acknowledge that harassment exists anyway, then try to prove that MORE than just those individuals are guilty of mistreating females? If there were some attempt at showing that it was more prominent, that people who don't typically harass others online take part when a female is involved, then these claims might be taketh seriously. What's pathetic, and what we should be ashamed of, is instantly taking up the battle cry of "Discrimination!" without determining whether or not that's actually the case.
Most of them on Twitch suck(pun intended). They don't care if they're good or not, as long as they show some boobs they will get lots of followers.
lol girl gamers.
OK? And, what's next?
I am a girl gamer but I have never licked a controller or showed my (admittingly almost non existent) boobs on Twitch for attention. Do I win a prize?
I lick my controller all the time. Granted, I am asleep most of those times and it's a bigger to clean off when I wake up but still.
Almost nonexistent boobs are the best kind! Frankly, I see no problem with it. I don't view it as being representative of all females or all female gamers any more than I view horrible rappers as being representative of all black people. I mean, I'm black, but I don't think of someone else's ignorance as reflecting poorly on me. So I don't see why someone using their looks to get ahead should reflect badly on, say, my girlfriend. Then again, I don't get why it's a problem in the first place. If anything, it's exploitation of men who fall for the ploy, but I never hear them complaining.
Don't know any... Why are they real gamers?
I'm not even reading this article because the headline is so incredibly sexist in itself. Gamers are gamers, no matter what gender they are. I wrote an article a few years ago on the stereotypes associated with gaming in general. Newsflash: There are stereotypes about all gamers, boys and girls alike. I do agree that the industry needs to be reminded, in some cases, but in general there are an incredible amount of steretypes associated with all facets of gaming, no matter what gender you are. Sure, I am a girl and I game...but I would just consider myself a gamer. You are just alienating yourself even more by refering to yourself as a "girl" or "female" gamer.
I have a ton of friends that are girls online and most of them just want to blend in. The ones that are screaming for articles like these are the ones that demand attention all the time. STOP!
Girls are real people?!
Agreed, but Anita Sarkeesian is NOT a real gamer... Check.. Mate...
I'm a man gamer. Can I have a cookie?
Maybe we should just remove comment sections, forums and in-game chats, that way no one can get their feelings hurt and a**hole men who haven't taken that leap yet from their basements can't vent their sexist bs. Also sexism isn't only restricted towards women, there are a lot of men as well who are victim to this BS too. Men just don't go public with it, guess they fear they get bucket load of hate and threats like everyone who comes out in public do these days (The same goes to women who comes out in public) what the hell is wrong with the people, is it that hard to stay civilized, do you really have to be an asshole and ruin it for everyone else. And thanks to these immature idiots internet keeps falling down into deeper and deeper censorship while the majority of us internet users and gamers have to suffer for it. I always have turned off chats in every single game just to avoid seeing aholes talking crap, and after they see female gamers the decide to vent their immature stupidity towards them. We need ZERO tolerance for these 'people', there has to be some way to knock some sense into them. Perhaps further moderation and alot more unforgiving punishments...hell give them hardware id/ip bans so they have to buy new computers/consoles, they will stop eventually. I'm done...Thank you.
Girls sound so sexy on the mic.
Attention: More Sexism, women empowerment BS.
I will be sure to send a letter of commendation and a shiny medal to all of them thanks for the info.
