"Be Open-Minded to a Mass Effect With No Shepard," Dev Says About Andromeda

BioWare senior development director Chris Wynn has responded to criticisms about how Mass Effect: Andromeda, the next game in the spacefaring RPG series, is leaving Commander Shepard behind.

Sir_Simba3528d ago

That can all be quenched by the release of a game-play video. So far you have not done that, so my scepticism's staying.

Takwin3527d ago

I want to see an in-engine gameplay on PS4 or even Xbone. Then I will know how much better it will look on PC.

NovusTerminus3527d ago

I'm fine without Shepard. Does not bother me at all.

joab7773527d ago

I want a mass effect mmo so bad. Problem is that it could be epic, and one of the best ever made. Unfortunately, it would cost a lot, and no one is willing to pay anymore. We are in the age of rational gaming...a time in which spending $40/months in $.99 increments is smarter than spending 15/month.

Grap3527d ago

NO no one wants mmo, gods i hope that genre dies.

ThunderPulse3527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

@Grap the current MMO style is overdone we just need it too be done differently like what DayZ and Ark Survival Evolved are doing.

TheBurger293527d ago

Exactly, why not introduce new characters with a new story.

Godmars2903527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

Its lack of a coherent story, within gameplay no less, that I have doubts about.

Whoever is the "main" character will be Shepard. Will be a blank, moldable template that players will craft to their liking while basically being a badass always in the middle of the action. Who will have more opposite and same sex options for love interest.

Their name, man or women just like last time, just wont be Shepard.

Why are people even hung up on that?

Truthandreason3527d ago

Lack of shepard I can deal with, but I'm going to need more Miranda.

poppinslops3527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

I'm pretty sure Andromeda's set a good while after the original trilogy - long-lived characters like Liara, Grunt and EDI might still be around, but I doubt Miranda's genetic perfection will be enough for more than a couple of hundred (incredibly saggy) years... Besides, the internet has already produced a STACK of porn in her honor - let Bioware create a new generation of intergalactic babes!

Personally, I'm cool with the idea of a new protaganist... the Dragon Age series switched leads for each entry, while still keeping a connection to the previous titles' history and lore - along with a few familiar faces.

If nothing else, former Normandy crewmates would be good for story exposition - plus it'd be nice to bump into Matriarch Liara, retired from Shadow-Brokin', digging up alien tombs in a brand-new galaxy... Blue is the Only Color and I'd happily 'Captain Kirk' her all over again.

gamer78043527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

i'm fine with that, just let us make/customize our own character. a save import would be cool, to see our shepherd make a cameo somewhere.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast155d ago (Edited 155d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul154d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow154d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake154d ago (Edited 154d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

ZeekQuattro154d ago

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast196d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine196d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast196d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman196d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast196d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein231d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics231d ago (Edited 231d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac230d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992231d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX231d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9231d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne231d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast231d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne231d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog230d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay231d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000231d ago (Edited 231d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon231d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT231d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon231d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139231d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein231d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
