It seems like the German indie developer Matthias Falk is writing the ultimate love letter to the 80s and 90s platform games with his 2D/3D platform game "Super Axe Boy". That´s at least the vibes that I felt when I (Robin Ek, The Gaming Ground) watched the very first trailer of the game. However, will that be enough to charm the big Gaming crowd?
Gary Stott writes: "So how is the game's Kickstarter page? Does it win me over? Well, using the Kickstarter announcement video as the lead pitch video doesn't exactly do Super Axe Boy any favours, for a start, as pretty much all of my negative feelings towards the game came from that very same video (I still think it looks like a LittleBigPlanet level). However, there's plenty of new content to check out in the description."
Gary Stott writes: "I'm going to be quick and brutal: I don't think this looks good. The art direction, if it can be called that, isn't particularly pleasant to look at, nor is it original. In terms of quality, the music is the only thing in the trailer that can be recommended, but even that quickly grows tiresome and feels, dare I say, juvenile."
I don't see the need for negativity. If you don't like a game don't crush it. It seems okay to me, not awesome but this is sort of uncalled for. Someone is trying to get their game out there and trying to appeal to people, so let them decide on their own to back it or not.
