Tales of Zestiria Review | GamersFTW

It's been a little while but here comes yet another Tales game. Making the franchise’s first appearance on the PS4 Tales of Zestiria has set its sights high introducing open world exploration along with seamlessly integrated battles in the landscape. For anyone out there wondering why this game was met with controversy when it released in Japan it all boils down to just one character; Alisha. She appeared in a lot of early promotional material yet she’s absent for a large portion of the game. Really though that shouldn’t put people off as this is one of the best Tales games.

Can't wait, the Tales series are a highlight for any RPG fan

They're always solid JRPGs, but judging from the review it seems like this latest does very little to improve on the series. There shouldn't be issues with linear dungeons really.

Its good so far.. The beginning is pretty slow and it feels weird battling forward instead of from the side like the others but once you get into the meat of it, it starts to get much better.. I agree with reviewers that the graphics engine needs to be upgraded but its a cross gen game meant for PS3 so i wont fault them for it.. The next title Berseria hopefully will have upgraded graphics.. DQ11 looks incredible so theres no reason that one cant..

Love the Tales series, so happy that this one is coming to PC. It's a shame that a lot of the characters are a bit bland but it looks like the combat and art style makes up for it.

I love the combo system in the Tales series, so good. Need to play more of Vesperia.

I was iffy on this one at first, I felt like they just put in a bad version of Graces' combat..but playing more it's getting REALLY good.

I love how the stuff you do outside of combat, matter just as much as what you do during it. Proper planning can save you the grind of 5 or so levels to beat a boss.

The only thing I dislike is the no-cutaways for battles. At first it sounded awesome to just fight on the map, but it leads to some crowded and awkward fights. Also, the strategy options are lacking immensely. Tales of Hearts had a full on Gambit system, PLUS some more options. In Zestiria the allies really feel like a back-drop, and most bosses will just 2-shot them anyways (playing on hard).

But at the end of the day I'll love always Tales games because the combat is great, and the difficulty when set to the right level always makes you use all of the mechanics to succeed. RPGs nowadays, you can ignore half the combat mechanics and still breeze through.

The Tales Of series are some of the best RPGs I've ever played, and the characters are a big reason for that. I don't think I played a single game in the series that I didn't enjoy. Rest in peace.

Damn, that sucks to hear... His designs were always wonderful.

RIP, sheade some great designs, man it's one after the other this year

FinalFantasyFanatic441d ago

We're 3 months into the year and I feel like we're taking nothing but L's.

autobotdan441d ago

Wow she was the character designer for Tales of Destiny one of my favorites of all time =(

scorpio_2049441d ago

I love the Tales games. Phantasia will always be my favorite. Ironically I felt like as the series progressed the character design became too “anime cliche.”

Dragon's Dogma and XCOM 2 are the best deals. The rest of the games are still overpriced. I would say 8.99 is good for AC: Origins, but you need to put $10 more into MTs to avoid the grind that slows down the story. So, the game is actually 18.99.

It's not on this list, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker is only $9.99. This is a deal if you have a current gen. consoles, as it runs poorly on prev. gen.

hangdang1090d ago

I beat AC origins without grinding or spending any money on MTX?

anast1090d ago

I had to grind for side missions. So, did many other people.

Has anyone been able to login in to the ps store on ps5 I haven't been able to in days and my network is good.

RedDevils1090d ago

Reset or shutdown your PS5. I always can go login to PS5, in fact just a moment ago.

HeliosHex1089d ago

Ok thanks I'll try that

HeliosHex1089d ago

Hey thanks again. Although the shutdown/reset didn't work i found that resetting the mdm and hub did the trick. I use a Lan network instead of wifi. In case anyone has a similar setup and problem.

RedDevils1089d ago

I forgot to mention about the router reset, that usually do the trick when it come to network problems happen with iphone/android. btw np

It’s really it’s own story , but like anything takes some inspirations from other sources, fantastic game so far, you absolutely don’t need to have played other tales games at all to enjoy this to its fullest.
