Why does Hearthstone have Adventures?

Compared to more traditional expansions like Goblins Vs. Gnomes and The Grand Tournament, Hearthstone's PvE adventures seem to come up short. However, while adventures offer much fewer cards, they do make important contributions for players and developers alike.
