Imagine being in a fight where the other person doesn't throw a punch. On the one hand, you would feel like a bully. No one who fancies themselves a hero would beat up someone who refuses to fight back, but there might be a small part of your brain that would enjoy exerting such uninhibited strength. Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below stands at that crossroads. As I cut down unceasing swarms of cute, pacifistic enemies, I wondered who's the real villain in this exercise. Of course, none of that mattered once I began to enjoy the spectacle.

A low score compared to all the other review praise Dragon Quest Heroes has been getting. I got my copy and have been loving it, the combat and RPG features blend so well. And I love seeing all the different types of Dragon Quest monsters all on the screen at the same time as you fight through the waves.

This is what I've been hearing from a lot of people, and as a Dragon Quest fan, this seems like an obvious choice. I'll be buying it tomorrow, and I can't wait to sink some hours into it.

I like Dragon Quest, but I never cared for the games with Dynasty Warriors gameplay, so I doubt I would like this game, sadly.

I'm picking this up exactly because it is Dragon Quest. I've become fairly disinterested in the overall musou game style over the years, getting my fill way back when on the PS2. This has characters I know from the many games I've played, and mixes in RPG elements to the musou play style. The major appeal factor for me is that it is Dragon Quest.

If that reason isn't good enough for you, well, I don't particularly care since I'm buying the game for me and not for anybody else.

The color comparison is a bit of an over simplification really. I mean there's so much more to it then it being just a musou reskin. I mean it's got deep character development, so much so that it can be called an ARPG instead of just another musou hack and slack. I don't like musou games myself, but really enjoy DQH, so I think quest fans can enjoy this unless of course the combat system is the sole reason one would play Dragon quest solely for the turn based combat. If that is the case one might be disappointed with the upcoming DQ11 going the ARPG route

Not everyone plays Dragon Quest solely for the old-school gameplay.

The lovable storybook plot, memorable cast, and magical worlds are the FIRST thing I think of when I think "Dragon Quest," even if I'm an old-school RPG fan.

I can understand your misgivings about musou, but there was never any chance that I would deny myself a chance at revisiting these whimsical characters that feel like old pals.

So? Not every game you like deserves a 10. Not every game that gets critically acclaimed deserves a 9 or a 10. People have different tastes. 8 is still a magnificent score. Now had it been a 6 or less, yeah that's a red flag (as is is review for Bioshock Infinite), but it was an 8. Please stop perpetuating this idea that anything below a 9, regardless of how good you and others think it is, is somehow a bad score or something to criticize a reviewer over. You're the type of people responsible for undeserved overscoring of less than great games.

My wife and I co-oped Hyrule Warriors for probably 300 hours and I was definitely picking this up when we got a PS4. Damn, that sucks.

I really love the Warriors games, but without some kind of coop play I don't think it'd hold my attention long enough (and co-op in Hyrule Warriors made Adventure mode way harder to A rank, which was a great challenge for us).

This game is sitting at a 78 on Metacritic, which is a good, but underrated aggregate. So 6 people vs about 37. Having looked at the reviews, I think I know who I'm going with on informing myself about whether the game is great or not.

I'm not a fan of Dragon Quest but I ordered(coming tomorrow) this game anyway. It looks fun and it's been getting good reviews. Looking for something on the lighter side since my last couple of games have been DA:I, Bloodborne, Witcher 3 and Farcry 4. Figure it would be refreshing to play before Fallout 4.

i like both dynasty warriors and dragon quest games but this is totally different.. Maybe im not far enough but its broken up into short bursts instead of a decently flowing level.. I really liked the running in hyrule warriors and horse riding in dynasty warriors but this doesnt seem to have either. Im going to play it a little more to see if it gets better but right now im feeling ripped off by paying $60 for it. It plays and looks ok but i question the level design and story

What is this? This seems more like a twitch live stream then an actual review. Review the game and tell me how it is, don't put a bunch of filler. I'll play the game for entertainment not watch your reviews.
