Chrono Trigger European Release Announced

SquareEnix today announces that CHRONO TRIGGER will be released across PAL territories in early 2009 exclusively on the NintendoDS handheld system.

They say that "time is money" but for our hero, Crono it is much more than that! Get ready to travel through time to avoid the destruction of the world as we know it. With CHRONO TRIGGER, your notion of time will be turned upside down as you race against it like you've never done before, while all the decisions you make along the way will affect past, present and future!

Originally released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System...

Being a European gamer - I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ONE!!!

dadice6165d ago

Meah. It'll probabluy just be another Squeenix cash-in like all the FF ports.

have you even played the remakes?

FFIII & FFIV are great remakes/games, regardless.
not everyone had a chance to play those/these games before,
so what's so bad about re-releasing an updated version?

altredeemer6165d ago

FFIII on the DS was awesome and it was the first time that was released in Europe too! I don't think FF IV's out over here yet though

meepmoopmeep6165d ago

yeah, my friend in Aussie wants it and she said it's not out there yet. but you should def get IV.

Having finished the original FFIV on the SNES numerous times and currently playing the FFIV remake on the DS, I can say without a doubt that there are enough changes and additions to the DS version to warrant its purchase.

The story elements are pretty much the same but there are numerous additions and improvements to the gameplay. Of course, the graphics have been completely overhauled and there is even voice-acting to add to the amazing new cutscenes.

I don't think Chrono Trigger DS will go through the same amount of revamping that FFIV has gone through, but I can comfortably say that FFIV DS is far from being a cash-in.

Digi-Man6165d ago

I love the FF remakes on DS but I don't think I'll bother with this. I don't know what the fuss is about. It doesn't look all that great...

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9244d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil44d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

I want a full on 3d remake but I suppose HD2D is fine.

Snookies1252d ago

So many people want HD2D, but I agree 100%. Chrono Trigger is in my top 3 of all-time. I want to see what this could be like re-imagined in full 3D. The sprites look good enough in the original, in my opinion. What would be amazing, is if they just went for both haha. Give us the HD2D to tide us over while they work on the full remake.

darthv7252d ago

I'd imagine it would be something like... chrono cross

goken51d ago

I am hoping a modern AAA return…

Chard51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

I'm still skeptical of HD-2D, and still want them to fix remaining foibles in the current Steam version. At any rate I've been seeing online that this rumour has been debunked

Knightofelemia51d ago

I would jump for a remake of Chrono Trigger then hopefully a remake of Chrono Cross. I wish Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy also got a remake or a remaster.

jznrpg50d ago

Yes to Xenogears and Xenosaga!

jznrpg51d ago

I am surprised it hasn’t been done already. It’s widely considered as one of the best RPGs all time. I’ll take it for sure. I want a Vagrant Story remake as well
