yeah if Marcus will show in Gears 4 without that John DiMaggio voice it would be very weird

medman3148d ago

Give us a break. If a game used another voice actor, gamers would never know the difference. Any ol' voice will do...it's not rocket science.

If I had to pick one series where voice acting was essential, it's Portal. Nearly all of the humor would have been completely lost if the dialogue was all text-based.

fattyuk3149d ago

Portal with out voice acting would be really bland

but

i got to try out the special portal level on htc vive vr :D mind = blown!!!!!!!

Vaas is an excellent choice, that game would be so much lesser without that character.

"Anything Troy Baker has done"

Same could be said for Nolan North

A lot of people seem to play down Nolan when it comes to Troy, little unfair in my opinion.

Nolan was one of the first people, with Uncharted, that brought voice acting and motion capturing together within gaming. It had probably been done before but it was with Uncharted (especially Among Thieves) that gaming took it more seriously.

This.
North has such a wide range it's ridiculous.

Oh yeah Nolan is an incredible voice actor and I made sure his performances were noted. The sheer amount of Troy's performances was reason for that final entry, no disputing they're both awesome.

I personally think he has more range then Troy, it's just people see his "Nathan Drake voice" because that's what studios tell him to go with

He asked people at the sounding booth with Prince of Persia if he should give the Prince an accent and they apparently were like "Oh no, no the voice you have is fine"

I think there comes a point where you can hear if it's Troy, like Ocelot in MGSV or Booker in Bioshock. With Nolan, if he gets in there and is allowed to do what he wants (gigitty) then you don't realise it's him. Peguin, David, Space/Adventure Sphere, Scroopy Noopers (Rick and Morty), Deadpool, Eredan, Hades, Doctor N Gin

I agree that North has incredible range - full credit to his abilities. And when all I knew Baker for was FFXIII's Snow and BioShock Infinite's Booker DeWitt, I would have agreed that he's overrated and meh.

Now that I've heard Baker in roles like Far Cry 4's Pagan Min, and Joker in Arkham Origins, I fully acknowledge his range and ability.

tl;dr - They're both amazing voice actors, and both should be recognized equally as such.

It's also worth remembering some of the classic voice actors, especially the ones who often don't get much in the way of recognition nowadays. One of my favorite voice actors, Cam Clarke, who was the voice of Liquid Snake in MGS1 and 2, was also a key figure in sculpting a profession for what we now know modern voice acting to be. His earliest roles were as the original voice of Kanaeda in Akira and Leonardo in the original 1988 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. He's also done several other notable roles in gaming and animation alike (such as Kratos in Tales of Symphonia).

There's also guys like Jess Harnell, known for quite a myriad of roles (Wakko in Animaniacs, Captain Hero in Drawn Together, and many games like Sly Cooper, Transformers, and even as the voice of Crash Bandicoot). And Cree Summer, who's also in a countless number of roles (Elmyra in Tiny Toons, Number 5 in Codename: Kids Next Door, all sorts of games from the original Fallout through several Final Fantasy titles). And definitely a lot of the folks from the original Dragon Ball Z cast which really helped to justify the budgets that are now given for voice acting.

Guys like Chris Sabat, Sean Schemmel, Chuck Huber, Cynthia Cranz, Justin Cook, and many others I can't think of immediately who put in hundreds of hours, sometimes having to do characters that they weren't originally scripted to do, and having to sometimes improvise content that needed to be there to match the flaps of the characters. All these folks deserve a lot more credit than they tend to get, at least in my opinion.

Nolan North is an awesome guy.

AstroCyborg3149d ago

good to see mgs in there since we saw how bad his replacement is

I thought Kiefer was fine, he just didn't get many lines to work with.

Would have been nice to see Hayter in one last scene though.

Neil Druckmann And Troy Baker Experience The Last Of Us At Halloween Horror Nights

This looks awesome. ’ Halloween Horror Night sends Neil Druckmann, Co-Studio Head & Head of Creative at Naughty Dog, and Troy Baker, the actor behind Joel, on a terrifying excursion of the “The Last of Us” haunted house, based on Naughty Dog and PlayStation’s award-winning post-pandemic video game.

Neil's body language seems to say the opposite of what he says. He doesn't seem to react to anything other than pointing.

mkis007249d ago

To me it looks like he is not easily scared.

You have to wonder if it is one of those cases of I know I have to be here for P.R. reasons but I am not really excited to be here.

They are clearly working on something together. A new AAA IP? Why not, sounds good to me.
