Destiny: The Taken King Review - GamerKnights

GK has done a very in depth review of the new expansion for Destiny, "The Taken King". Is it any good?

More:

"The Taken King is an answer to so many questions we’ve been asking over the last year. Bungie have listened attentively for a year to every little concern or annoyance the community have levelled at Destiny and given us what feels like an entirely new game."

You really think that this version of destiny is a huge departure from vanilla destiny? I'm one of those guys who loved destiny at first but felt completely ripped off by the dlc practices imposed by Activungie so I dropped it right after the dark below released. I picked up TTK about a week ago and I just don't see this huge departure from vanilla destiny, especially enough of a difference to warrant scores that are in some cases more than 2 points higher than vanilla destiny. I agree with you that the story, mainly cut-scenes, are more enjoyable and easier to understand and the game is loaded with missions but at the core it's still the same old destiny, which isn't a bad thing, I just don't see how it warrants a way better score than the original.

because the original was flawed and repetitive as hell and this version, even after 3 weeks I still have lots to do and all the content is actually more fun, it changes everytime and hard to glitch unlike the other DLC. Raid is really fun too.

@Rhomiel

I'm not arguing any of those points with you, I'm merely saying I don't see a game that went from a 6 to now a 9 or better. Let me ask you a question, would you tell someone that wasn't into the destiny grind before that now they will love destiny because it's so much different? I don't think you would that's why I'm saying at it's core it's still the same game.

An entirely new game for an entirely new Price! I enjoy Destiny but with all the other games coming I am not going to drop 79.99 Can when I spent 69.99 a year ago to play it. Not buying the 2 DLC packs in-between apparently really screwed me over as a day one buyer.

The game pretty much has a subscription fee without the subscription. In 4 months you will be paying $40 to access Pluto's moons and reset your gun levels to embrace another grind.

Seems like you never played an MMO before, I played WoW for almost 10 years and every expansion, you don't keep your guns and armor.... it cost 15$/month so if I keep the math, I paid 100$ for limited edition with both DLC + 40$ for TTK so thats 140$/12 = 11.67$ a month, wow that price of 2 movies for like 50+ hours a month. I admit that the first 2 DLC were really lacking but if they keep the quality of the next DLC or expansion close to TTKs for 11$/month, im all for it.

Played tons of MMO's.. Strange you come to a conclusion like that based on what I said.. I will try to help you understand better.. I merely think Destiny's price points are unfair for customers outside of the US and early adopters that skipped the DLC's having to re-buy everything.

The basic math Destiny defenders really just show one thing, Destiny is your main game and you play it non stop and will probably fork over whatever they ask to continue and justify it whatever way you can.

It is easy to see why your comments are the most disagreed with.

I really enjoy Destiny. I've been in it since the Alpha, but I kinda wanna quit. I took a break for about a month before TTK and it was really nice. Kinda tired of being "hooked" to just 1 game. I gave up WOW back in the day, so I know I can kick this!

The Destiny Franchise is at its Brightest When Embracing its Darkness

Here, Twinfinite is writing that Destiny, despite being a T rated franchise, is full of dark and brooding moments that showcase the best of the team's narrative potential. They further write that, while Destiny 2 has not delivered as much as it should have on this front, Forsaken appears to be the big step that it needs to return to its greatest moments.

Press Start: Going flawless in Destiny 2 isn't quite as sweet

Gazette gaming columnist Jake Magee's lack of skill at Destiny is what made going flawless in Trials of Osiris more than a year ago taste so sweet. The feeling wasn't as great when he did the same in Destiny 2 last week, he writes.

you can tell these reviewers spent no time in the 1st destiny

The_KELRaTH2805d ago

I wonder if they'll re-review it after completing the 12hr campaign and levelled up to 265

Phoxel2804d ago

I wrote this review after beating the campaign, reaching 273 power, completing two of the three exotic quests, completing every adventure, playing plenty of Crucible, and much more.

Hi, I wrote this review. I logged 32 days in Destiny 1.

how is destiny 2 a 9.5 while missing many features from the first game, weapon balance issues, lack luster exotics, boring strikes, and no dedicated servers..i like the game a lot for what it offers..but its no where near a 9.5..closer to a 7.5..they didnt add enough for this to even feel like a proper sequel
