Its polished, no-nonsense presentation and competent AI offer engrossing strategy gaming that requires some effort to learn and master. Computer generals willing to invest that last full measure of devotion are guaranteed to keep coming back for one more charge. Because of the game's depth and lack of frills, however, those seeking a light, fast-playing game should probably look elsewhere.

Matrix Games and 2by3 Games are excited to announce the release of the first official update for their highly acclaimed American Civil War grand strategy masterpiece, Gary Grigsby's War Between the States. Bringing the version of the game up to 1.010, the update includes a handful of new player-requested features including an interface improvement making it easier to see which leaders have initiative, additional feedback to players on leader casualties and Kentucky neutrality a dozen fixes, and some improvements to the Union AI in Missouri.
