Forbes: “So many shows and so little time,” sang Andy Samburg as he welcomed the men and women of the small screen to the 67th annual Emmy Awards. And he wasn’t right about the seeming endless stream of high quality shows that networks and streaming services have been producing.
The awards show—which celebrates the actors, actresses, directors, producers and more who enter the intimacy of our homes to amuse, enlighten or indulge us on a nightly basis—has grown in importance as TV has experienced dramatic changes in the past few years. Not only has television shifted from a form of entertainment enjoyed on a TV set attached to a cable box to one that can be taken in on any given computer with internet access, but it has also gone from attracting talent generally considered second-tier or B-list to the best performers, writers and directors that Hollywood has to offer.
