The PS3 is now in that position.

The 360 has the position that had the PS2 last gen. Out one year before the direct competition, most support, most genres covered. With the price of 200 bucks this Christmas, including the new casual gamers also reached with the avatars etc. PS3 could have a problem there with the lack of genres covered.

We have like 2 or 3 exclusive shooters no more than than 360 has. In fact most of the games being released this holiday season are not shooters and you also have to remember that RPGs take longer to develop and that is why this holiday is when you will see the first 3 JRPGs for PS3 being released. Look at 360 last year and the JRPGs they had Versus PS3 this year and the JRPGs that are coming to PS3. PS3 has the much better JRPG lineup. I think next year Japanese devlopers would be foolish not to release JRPGs on Sony's console.

I was wondering where all the role playing games have gone to myself. I don't own a ps3 or xbox 360 at the moment so it really has no direct affect on me but even for the wii there is a lack of role playing games.

I know for myself though, I'm not too much into the strategy types of RPGs. But I'm willing to give those a try at least. Eternal Sonata is definitely worth a look from PS3 owners though.

The tails series isn't on PS3 yet.

My guess is because most RPGS don't need a lot of power under the hood it could be easier to crank them out on the 360. The power of the cell isn't really necessary for them (except the highly rendered ff's).

It's much easier just to program if you don't need to thread the processes. The only real reason to use a lot of power is to add eye candy to a JRPG.

A simple PC quality port isn't as complex it only the single core is needed to run it.

Last gen MS had a problem with their RPG lineup and they suffered for it.

Which is why I chose the PS3. I'm guaranteed lots and lots of first & second party exclusives.

My brother bought a 360 because of Lost Odyssey, Gears, and Mass Effect. My brother was the only one who finished those games, none of us were interested enough to play more than a couple of hours. As I had predicted before he bought the 360, it wasn't worth it to have two main consoles.

Just choose whichever one has the games you're interested in. You most likely won't touch the other console even if you have it.

Don't worry about RPGs for the PS3. This time around, Sony will try to make sure they got every genre covered... even the ones you didn't know existed.

Sony focused on shooters for the first year or two because those were the gamers who were willing to pay $500 for a console. RPGs will come out for the PS3 just as its price drops low enough to target the cheaper consumers.

Think about it, most of those who wanted MGS4 waited till its release to buy a PS3. And even more are still waiting for FFXIII's release. If they really were willing to shell out $500 for a console, they wouldn't wait till the game's release date. They're not as flexible with money as the hardcore shooter fans are.

in either case, i'm 29, have a fiance, a job, bills, rent, etc, etc, and i just don't have the time to invest in an RPG like i'd like to.

i'm still working my way through Dark Cloud 1 and 2, Rogue Galaxy, Odin Sphere, and FFXII. not to mention other games in my library that are vying for my time.

the nice, 10-15 hour lengths of most games these days are perfect for my current lifestyle. i can actually BEAT games nowadays. it feels nice.

anyway, quality RPGs take TIME to created. i mean, remember Enchanted Arms?

i'm willing to wait for the really good stuff to come out, and i have those nice PSP RPGs to play around with anyway.

oh yeah, and don't expect White Knight Chronicles to hit the PS3 until 2009. in Japan. meaning a late 2009, early to mid 2010 release for the States and the UK. if WKC hits Japan this year, i'll be damn surprised (and heading to my import store. lol).

Somewhere along the line Sony's strategy has been with the Western Markets with it's games. It's biggest games and somewhat most anticipated have bee shooters. LBP(the next big hit) is something new but as we all know Social/Online gaming in Japan is a slow process. (Ask Phil Harrison).

I'm sure Sony will begin to get some JRPGs as devs learn to work around the Cell and not scared of taking risks with it's fanbase. The worlds most popular JRPG series is now multi-plat form. Now how does Sony coaxed the lesser known Devs to making JRPGS only for the PS3, well that will be tough. SE is the LEADER and with the high cost of Production of games, most Devs will follow the leader/Where the money is.

The games will come eventually but Sony will have to dish out some cash NOW if they want some exclusivity. Time is Money. For the most part that's how the game is being played now.

level 5 will not work for microsoft after what they did to them, nippon ichi is ps3 and ds only as of now, and with final fantasy 13 exclusive to ps3 in japan, the difference in install bases will only get bigger. some of those small jrpgs that never make it out of japan will still be on ps3 (like crossovers or some other tactical rpg's), so the jrpg market will go to the ps3.

Japanese developers just like the 360 more. Japanese like the latest and greatest technology, and the PS3 doesn't deliver. These Japanese developers can really do things on the 360 that they can't on the PS3. This is also shown in the trend of Japanese beginning to buy 360s. Soon when they realize just how weak the PS3 is and how amazing the 360's hardware is, all the Japanese devs (Oh wait they already have!) and people will dump their old, outdated PS3s for the superior console.

1:FF versus was stated by SE themselves to still be exclusive,if it wasnt they would of said its being ported at E3.-Fail.

2:4 more years? No.Maybe that's when you'll get your GTAIV DLC but versus will be out long before then.-Fail

Ever considered the fact that it cost a hell lot to make games for the current generation.
Hell we're talking a minimum of 25m to 100/150m.
That's a big investment for any given company.
The risk to spend that much money in a single game only to find out it flop after wards isn't what companies are waiting for.
On top of that X360 and PS3 aren't even near what the PS2 install base was.
We will see some more RPG's in due time (when the consoles have a larger install base).
Right now it's too risky for smaller companies (when compared to Square) to make a game.
That would explain why there's a lack of games to start with, or a particular genre.

Don't worry, the poor sales of JRPGs on 360 means developers will soon realise the "lead" is meaningless when the fanbase for the genre isn't there.

If you want more JRPGs, simple solution, buy Eternal Sonata, Valkyrie Chronciles and so on and show developers that PS3 fans want JRPGs.

I just outright refuse to buy JRPGs on 360, because the controller isn't comofortable for long stints.

PS3 struggles to sell any game, while the 360 is the money maker for gamedevs.

Plus: I can't understand your problem with the 360 controller. The PS2 uh sorry PS3 controller with the two analog sticks are placed so that your fingers will hurt. It just doesn't feel right. The 360 thumb sticks and total controller is much better designed to fit in the hand for short and long gamingperiods. Ergonomically its much much better. Not even to speak about the fact the nonrumble PS3 controller makes cracking sounds and even shows cracks in the plastic when its used intensively. Its cheap, feels cheap, plays cheap.

But hey I can understand you're mad about your console not getting the best support this gen. The places have changed. PS3 = like XBOX 1 last gen, 360 = like PS2's position last gen
