Does it live up to the hype, what do you guys think?

Epicor1137d ago

Simple answer: WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!

WitWolfy1137d ago

Ummmm.. As a open world game its okay-sh... Not really much to do except recapture all the same bases the whole time...

But from a narrative stand point its still epic.. Not as epic as MGS 4, but still epic non the less.

DoctorFry1137d ago

Ehhh... No, it's not a masterpiece in my eyes. The game's great, definitely the best stealth action game ever made - hands down - but I really wish the narrative was stronger. You can spend hours doing missions before a cutscene will play. You hear most of the characters' dialogue via the iDroid, so it can feel pretty detracting from the story when you never get to see the game's main characters much.

So far it's a 9/10 for me, but I'm not even halfway through it.

Thanks for your comment. I see you have a Geralt avatar, how'd you enjoy The Witcher 3? =)

DoctorFry1137d ago

I absolutely loved The Witcher 3, it's my game of the year so far! Definitely looking forward to the expansions this fall.

Purely subjective - obviously, but (for me) MGSV is in no way a 'masterpiece'. A brilliant sandbox of ideas, looks splendid, runs flawlessly, BUT, its the stereotypes which let it down, big time. For a game which is trying to elevate the medium into something more 'grown up', its ideas on women in particular leave a lot to be desired. A HIGHLY recommended games none the less. Essential even.

Epicor1137d ago

Some might argue that if it's an "essential game", it's pretty much a masterpiece.

I hear your gripe about women being objectified. It's totally valid. But this matter alone doesn't hinder the game's greatness (purely subjective - obviously).

higgins781137d ago

I disagree that an 'essential' game must then equate to a 'masterpiece', but that's by the by. Definitely an essential game, NOT a masterpiece, in my opinion. Regarding its depiction of women. Yes, I'm afraid it does hinder the games greatness in my eyes. It could/should have gave us strong, complex, 3 dimensional female characters, instead we get a pre-prepubescents wet dream...poor.

It can't be a masterpiece when the side ops are repetitive and the open world is as bland and empty as it is (GTA and Witcher 3 do Open worlds much better). I also feel the stealth isn't very good, as you spend 99% of the time crawling around when playing stealth and the AI is very questionable at times when you can be sitting right in front of them and they don't see you but then be crouching far away and they instantly spot you..

It is NOT a masterpiece but it is a very GOOD game.

There are other ways to play stealthy too and the point of stealth in MGS is to remain unseen, so crawling is necessary. You don't go running around in real life either all the time.

WellyUK1137d ago

ye but you don't crawl around all the time either. There is no balance is the problem, if your doing stealth your crawling 90% of the time.

Savsky1136d ago

Did you play the game? I spend a small amount of my time crawling and I am 40% complete with the game.
