20 Times Until Dawn’s Uncanny Valley Made Us Super Uncomfortable

Until Dawn is a gorgeous game that looks incredibly realistic. Every once in a while though, someone looks a little TOO realistic for our tastes.

You know, I haven't cared at all about the PS4 since it's launch. The more I hear about this game, though, the more I really want one.

tigertron3551d ago

The last PS4 exclusive I bought was The Order, and I must admit I haven't really played my PS4 much since as I've been playing my XB1 more, but damn Until Dawn is good. If you enjoyed games like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls then you should definitely check this game out.

XanderZane3551d ago

Already own a PS4 and I want to play this game as well. But not until next year when I can grab a copy for $20-$25. Heavy Rain and Beyond 2 Souls were decent games. Worth a play through at least 2 times.

Yeah, a few times the camera angle changed and my character was right in front of my screen in a close up, and the face looked so real it startled me a bit.

Also, when you press the button to go to the menu, it has the head of the character you're controlling and you can move the stick to make the character turn and look at you. And it looks like someone is really looking at you in the eyes.

These characters are based off real actors, so there's real people that look like them, so I guess that's how they managed to make the stares so convincing.

the faces on the menu screen look amazing!

Especially Sam's :)

christian hour3551d ago (Edited 3551d ago )

I just pretended it was set on a planet where we discarded all our first generation androids and it made them much more believable and the uncanny aspect less jarring, because as early humanoid robots they tend to be uncanny valley deformities :)

Kind of pointless. You can take a screen grab from TV and find humans making worse faces than these.

EdMcGlone3551d ago

Sure but it's Until Dawn's closeness (but not quite) to real life humans that makes it more pronounced. Until Dawn looks so good, but when it misses it misses hard (and comically) because of the Uncanny Valley.

I'm confused. Did they contribute to the writing of the movie?

darthv7225d ago

I think the game writes should be glad... the movie is not that good. Its connection to the game is in name only.

Until Dawn Remake.

Saved you a click.

OtterX28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Boring. The original was a decent game, but not something worth revisiting. I guess this is alright for anyone who never played the original.

Now, Rush of Blood should have been the real priority for a remake on PSVR2.

adamwparker28d ago

Until Dawn remake, Death Stranding, and a random PS4 game?

Until Dawn was already a PS Plus game! And not even that long ago.
The fact that JUST BECAUSE an Until Dawn movie just released in theaters so SONY trying to push the name is not right for us long time subscribers.

CrimsonWing6928d ago

I mean, technically it’s the Remake. It’s possible that many missed out on the PS4 one when it was a PS+ game. I actually was interested to see what this one is like, but had no intention of buying it, so that’s a plus for me… pun intended.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic181d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23181d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger172d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.
