Don’t Starve: Giant Edition – BritXbox
Don’t Starve has evolved greatly over the years, but at it’s core the tenants of a Burton/Lovecraft inspired survival game focusing on a punishing day/night cycle, crafting and exploration have not changed. This games presentation is unique, stark and permanently off putting. With angular character designs that are all elbows and jaw lines, music that is odd and twisted and a minimalist interface. It sets its tone, sticks to it and lets you wallow in a sense of isolation and desperation that are as alluring as they are disturbing. Conceived and created in during the boom of the survival game genre, Don’t Starve couldn’t feel more different to Minecraft and due to this it works as a wonderfully subversive piece of counter programming to the blocky, colourful, inviting world of Mojangs creation.
