Player tweaks Black Ops 3 to look like a PS1 game

TheCircuitChaser had some serious issues getting the Black Ops 3 beta to run smoothly on his PC. But, he was not disheartened. Instead of throwing a sulk, smashing his keyboard to pieces and dumping the evidence out of the nearest window (we’ve all laughed at videos similar to this on YouTube), he simply decided that the game needed a retro tune-down.

It's just turning textures off. The problem is that this article doesn't seem to remember or even know what a Playstation 1 game looks like. This is a Playstation 1 game. One of the better looking ones might I add.

Killzone 1 was such a technically advanced game. Still looks good to this day. It was very evident that the PS2 hardware couldn't totally handle the game as optimally as GG wanted it to.

Yeah, I agree the textures in Killzone on ps2 looked better then anything in Halo on the xbox and that machine had more graphics power then the ps2.

This is much more like a really terrible PS2 Era game than PS1, IMO. It runs way too smooth to truly fool you but completely ruining/dropping the fps within an FPS is crazy. It's cool but they should have made the draw distance blocked by fog, much less AA, zero "shiny" textures like that wall had, etc.

Going back to any PS2 FPS is just so hard now so a true PS1 overhaul would be against common sense and fun. Dropping frames is not what I'd recommend but adding more of the Era's hiding techniques for lack of power (fog, choppy draw distances, less animation) would be cool for tons of genres. It would give the look but maintain the smoothness and resolution. As noted above, a huge open-world game like Fallout or skyrim would be hilarious! Sports games, too. I actually only play footie (soccer) on current and last Gen consoles. I also love American football (I'm American but try to call it football instead of soccer when anyone from the rest of the world will read or in conversation, it's only right) and particularly College Football but there hasn't been a good one since the PS2. EA's engine for their sports games only work with FIFA and NHL, IMO. Madden/NCAA were atrocious all last Gen and this Gen so I'd love a modern reboot of FIFA, PES, NCAA & Madden. Remove all the fancy new bloat tech and give me my fun sports games back lol!

PES/FIFA are good. They're optional lol. Yet, Skyrim all jacked down to PS1 graphical levels would be great to play. Hilarious. I want it.

Why do people keep saying this looks like PS2 graphics? PS2 games look way better than this... I don't know where people get the notion that removing graphical features and tuning down resolution and texture density makes a game look like PS1 and PS2 games. If you guys do not realize, PS2 and PS1 games still retain enough aesthetics for it to remain an attractive and good looking game for it's time. This on the other hand looks so bad, I can't even tell what's going on. This doesn't look like an aged game. It just looks plain ugly and broken.

Draw distance and gun models are too high-quality to be PS1. It looks more in-line with late PS2
