Assassin’s Creed Syndicate hands-on preview and interview – Metro

GameCentral takes this year’s Assassin’s Creed for a test run, but even if it doesn’t have the bugs of Unity does that make it a better game?

The shameful state in which Assassin’s Creed Unity was released last year was a PR disaster for Ubisoft. But the mountain of bugs and glitches did have one benefit, in that they distracted from the game’s more intrinsic failings. Or at least that’s the way we see it. But the truth we have to accept is that most people are relatively happy with Assassin’s Creed as it is, and they don’t really mind that its gameplay is as clumsy and uninspired as it is. Which is just as well, because Syndicate really doesn’t seem like much of an improvement.

That was a good interview, but the entire intro write up was atrocious. It tries to compare AC to Tomb Raider and Batman, two very different games. Moreover, movement isn't an issue, it's frankly incredibly easy after the changes in Unity.

This kind of seems like a biased preview in my opinion. To say the gameplay in AC is bad is a little bit ridiculous IMO. I'm not a fanboy of the series but there have been some great games in the series such as AC II and Black Flag. I think the fact that unity was so broken took away from the fact that it wasn't a bad game at all from a story, graphics, or gameplay standpoint. I do agree that the series got stale but I loved Black Flag. I've yet to go hands on with syndicate, but I doubt it's as bad is this guy says.

I actually quite enjoyed Unity. I disliked how unpolished it was, but it was still a really fun game for me. I liked the improvements to the stealth and traversal systems and I found the story to be interesting. And the visuals are some of the best I've ever seen in a game, especially an open world game. I loved the black box missions and the variety of different ways you can tackle them.

I sincerely hope Syndicate will be more polished, but the setting and most of the changes they've made seem intriguing to me.
