Stu at Sushimonster85 writes 'The sidekick role in a video game can be tricky for developers. Ideally, the character should be interesting, and fun, but not so much that it takes away from, or overshadows, the main character. It can also be all to easy for a sidekick to cross over into being a full on irritation, someone who you just wish would disappear from the game. Here we take a look at five gaming sidekicks who, in our opinion, showcase just how effective a sidekick can be when done correctly.'
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution launches summer 2025 on modern platforms—20 years after its original development was shelved.
Glad they didn't change the art style. This is looking good.. Why did they change the way the characters look anyway? The very first style was kind of ok, it was fine by Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse.. both in game sprite and the dialogue popups, why keep changing it? I am not as fussed on her newer look. She's looking kinda too dark or sunburnt now.

Only if Toys for Bob has done the remaster. This one is just a port with widescreen support which can be done easily with duckstation and other emulators, stable framerate which also can be done with duckstation via CPU emulation option and slightly better analog controls. I hope at least this release will have crt shader support, which by the way duckstation and other emulators like retroarch also have. I know I am repeating my self but ps1 emulation is so good in 2025 that u can play most of the games with widescreen, stable 30fps and even 50 or 60fps if lossless scaling is used.
Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
