Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive Review | Metal Arcade

Metal Arcade: Jason Bakker writes:

Overall, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive is a very fun, addictive throwback title that will keep you challenged and engaged throughout. Leveling up your characters feels rewarding, and upgrades are kept throughout all game modes giving the game a fair amount of replayability. While the swarms of enemies and cheap AI can be frustrating at times, the fast-paced beat-em-up action is very enjoyable and polished. If you have fond memories of pumping quarters into arcade games like Streets of Rage and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Phantom Breakers: Battle Ground Overdrive is absolutely worth checking out.

They're still releasing this game? I wish Scott pilgrim the game would get the every system in existence treatment in the next 10 years. Also is it as badly optimized as it was on Vita? I couldn't believe a side scrolling beat em up has slow down, had issues and was a whole gig when bigger side scroller like Rayman origins was smaller lol. Game is fun though despite what I'm saying. Just wouldn't buy again with the horrible version I have already lol

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive Review | PlayStation Enthusiast

"Phantom Breaker isn’t exactly the most famous fighting game series in existence, but the series has gotten a small, dedicated following. Now, after many revisions to the original game, the series has gotten a beat-em-up spin-off. Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive attempts to take the setting and fighting game techniques of the mainline Phantom Breaker series and use them to spice up the somewhat clichéd pixel art inspired beat-em-up genre. While there was clearly a lot of effort put into giving the fighting engine more depth than the usual brawler, a lack of variety in the tactics needed against computer controlled enemies and a frankly unethical use of DLC stops Battle Grounds Overdrive from reaching its potential. -- PlayStation Enthusiast
