Is PS4 Or Xbox One More Worried About Nintendo's New NX?

Should Sony or Microsoft be concerned about Nintendo's new console stealing interest away? Or will the NX's arrival simply not matter at all?

no because sony and microsoft are selling pretty well at moment and pretty much both consoles are doing well once nintendo bring nx out i welcome them in the 8th generation but i think it will be late since 8th generation started in 2013 plus sony and microsoft have huge games that are coming out for quiet sometimes i do think nx will sell if its get third party developers that will support it and on board with it like ps4 one

i don't think so, both ms and sony are doing well and trying to compete with each other. Nintendo hasn't had a console with 3rd party support since SNES. Just think about it, it's been that long

if i was running Nintendo these are the things i would do:

Get as much feedback from developers as possible about the console tech.

Get big publishers on board and ask them what it would take for their games to appear on out next consoles day and day with ps4,xbox one and pc.

have a online system that can compete with psn/xbox live but make it free to entice people into buying our console to play online

make sure i have a zelda game ready at launch, i would also out source past zelda games for complete remakes

also launch with Mario Party into enticing families to buy the consoles to play with their kids

try to publish some 3rd party games so the 3rd party publishers won't be taking the risk. this way the library becomes bigger and in future those same publishers will return the favor by making the game available day and day with other consoles

It's Nintendo lol I doubt they feel pressure from them. Let's remember that ps4/xbox are direct competitors. Nintendo is running it's own race.

Wii U is a disaster, but let's not forget that Nintendo still owns some of the most beloved franchises in the gaming industry. If they rethink their policy, they could become a real competitor again.

Just imagine if they decide to make an Open World HD Pokemon Game on a home console ? Success guaranteed.

there's only 3 million differnce in sales between the xbone and WiiU. sure its been out a year longer but consiering how poorly marketed the WiiU has been i'd say its done pretty well all things considered.

They need a 3rd party friendly console. They need to mend thier relationships and get all the games Microsoft and Sony gets.

They will have success if they can get thier great first party games and 3rd party games together on their console.

PS4 is in first place saflely leading while xbox one is in a distant 2nd place, so I say if anyone should worry then it's probably Microsoft because xbox is not doing that great Sony has nothing to worry about

Actually the Xbox 1 its doing really good, its selling at a faster rate than the X360. The PS4 its just selling way better, but that doesn't mean X1 is doing bad.

I would say Sony has something to worry about seeing as Nintendo caters to more of the same audience as Sony, as they both go for a lot of Jrpgs and in general Japanese style games where as everyone on this site says Xbox is strictly a westerner system without all these Japanese games

I don't think they are worried, if anything they want to see Nintendo succeed. Competition always brings the best out of Sony and Microsoft. That's what this business is all about. Makes all gamers winners.

PS4 just sold 25 million without having a price cut yet. X1 is also performing well at 13 million.There is nothing NX can do to make Sony and Microsoft afraid.

If Nx/Nintendo is to succeed it must prove to buyer's that it is not going to be another Wii U gamble. So many basic functions were left out of the Wii U it's not even funny if they were planning to compete with the big boys they needed to bring more to the table. I'm sure die hard fans will be there first to buy one. I feel more people will be sitting on the fence waiting to see the actual specs, functions, software and third party backing before buying.

Don't think MS,Sony are to concerned as of now but they will be watching from a distance. Think everyone will be watching while waiting to hear the specific of the hardware.

Why though? The hardware could be twice that of ps4/xbo but it won't matter if publishers don't feel it's financially viable to develop for the platform (and if it's that much powerful they'd have to spend even more time on an NX version). Look at PC... PC games could wipe the floor with console games but do we really ever see that anymore? Nope. They're basically on par with console versions aside from resolution & framerate. Why? Because the time & resources it would take to make a PC game truly destroy ps4/xbo versions wouldn't be worth it for them becaues the return isn't big enough.

Why would publishers invest in a nintendo console that's released mid cycle AGAIN when this all just happened 3 years ago with the Wii U and it flopped. Why would NX be any different?

Why would either be worried? I've said this so many times on this site but here goes again...

-Nintendo have to prove to 3rd party devs why they should invest resources into making an NX port of XBO/PS4 games when the install base will be microscopic compared to XBO/PS4. (I.E. would it be financially viable for them to develop an NX port?)

-Nintendo have to go full on with their online gaming efforts if they ever want to be a true home to games like battlefield or COD (these types of 3rd party games are crucial in helping make a console stand-alone and not complimentary, even if you personally don't like these games)

-They have to tread lightly regarding WiiU support. On one hand, Wii U is mostly a flop so supporting it would be a waste of time since MOST Wii U owners will be there at midnight for the NX, but if they don't support Wii U they that looks bad too.

-Either it's totally on par with ps4/xbo hardware wise or it's better. If it's better, the issue is still with convincing devs why they should invest time and resources into an NX version. (see my first point)

I dont think they are worried. The release of a new comsole in the middle of a generation is not ideal because it will take time for that console to gain a sizable install base. Time during which the competition will increase its market share. However that is not to say this is a bad decision by nintendo. They need a new console that can compete and it will definitely take some sales away from the others. So ae they worried? I dont think so. Not in the sense of selling less than the NX as even the xbone has a sizable headstart.

Personally im excited for NX. I have the other consoles, mainly play on my PS4, but im missing my Zeldas. I think its gonna be a great second console for a lot of people.

That's the big problem for Nintendo in the home console market... they'll forever be a complimentary system. Were the NES, SNES, N64 or even the gamecube a complimentary system? No, all 4 provided a vast majority of the popular games of those generations, something the Wii couldn't do, something the Wii U hasn't done and likely something the NX won't be able to do. Luckily for the Wii they started a fad with non gamers and casual gamers. But that lightning won't strike twice.

Nintendo has their own type of followers, a new system won't make a dent in MS and Sony....the installbase is too big now.

And Nintendo for some reason seems to release a new console in the midst of when MS and Sony new consoles are reaching their prime (just like when the WiiU launched when PS3 and 360 where at their peak).

NX handheld will only once again show how poorly Sony handled Vita. If DQXI is only the first of possible PS4/NX games, Sony should be really concerned. If it has a handheld form factor, NX has the potential absolutely cripple Sony's declining business in Japan.

When Nintendo are popular it tends to affect Sony more than Microsoft.

PS2 155 million sales - Gamecube approx 21 million. Total= 176 mill.
PS3 80 million sales- - Wii 100 million. Total = 180 million.

Yes the Xbox 360's increase in sales will have affected PS3 sales but, even so, Microsoft just tends to sell or not sell regardless. You either must have Halo and Gears of wars or you're not bothered and will probably plump for the competition instead overall.
Someone who wants a Playstation isn't going to go a whole gen without one -they'll get one as their second console at some point because it has so many varied series on it.

I don't think they are worried, i don't really see why they would be. The next Nintendo console will be launching very late into the current generation of consoles. I will be interested to see if Nintendo can give us something Sony and Microsoft doesn't give us. Hopefully something great and not a gimmick.

Nintendo is a wreck. Almost three weeks after Satoru Iwata's death, they STILL have not decided on (or at least announced) his successor. You'd think with the fact that his health issues were well known (he missed E3 2014 after all), they would have had those decisions made months in advance for a quick transition.

Unless they pull an absolute miracle card out of their hat for the NX, I don't see them presenting any threat to either Microsoft or Sony. The next console will likely be far underpowered for its time of release, overwrought with draconian 'family-friendly' sanitization and built around yet another hardware gimmick to "set itself apart" from the competition.

Whether they like it or not, Nintendo needs to get into the hardware horsepower race, and build that hardware around the desires of gamers and third parties...not simply what 'they think is best for us'.

I absolutely agree with you on this Ninja#26. It is odd that a major corporation like Nintendo has yet to announce a successor to Satoru Iwata. Perhaps there aren't many takers for a poisoned chalice?

Unless Nintendo come up with a console that can challenge the other two in both horsepower and user experience, Nintendo will continue to be a distant third when it really should be doing much better with the IPs it has.

Give me a console where the best of the best Nintendo franchises are back and booming, with a proper controller (so sick of the gimmicks) and I will buy the console. I own a Wii and it saddens me how much I hate the controller, only got 3 games because of it. I skipped on the Wii U entirely, and honestly, Zelda isn't enough to pull me in anymore.

So if the NX is I don't know, good, then sweet.

Now, is this a danger for Sony and Microsoft? Who knows. (I doubt it, the third party support would simply help Nintendo, not destroy Sony or Microsoft. Though Microsoft will have to pump up more exclusives since Sony and Nintendo have no problem in that department.)

Is it good for the industry? Yes.
