Silent Hills' Kojima, Del Toro Still Plan to Work on New Project

Silent Hills is canceled, but project leads Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro still intend to work on a new project together.

In an interview with IGN, del Toro said, "I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together."

DarXyde3613d ago

I second this.

Konami can eat a big sack of baby parts.

XBLSkull3612d ago (Edited 3612d ago )

Yeah this story is completely fake.

“I have proven to be the albatross of video games,” del Toro said at San Diego Comic Con, where he was promoting Season 2 of the FX hit, The Strain, and his October horror film from Legendary Pictures, Crimson Peak. “I joined THQ [to make a game called Insane] and THQ went broke. I joined [Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo] Kojima [to make Silent Hills] and Kojima leaves Konami, so I have decided that in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll work with someone and his house would explode or something, you know?”

On second thought, maybe they'll make some kind of animated movie or something, seems like that is all Kojima wanted to do anyways based off of those "games" he made that included more cutscenes than gameplay. The article does just say "project", and he's said he is done with games, so it's likely something else. Maybe a board game or line of action figures.

subtenko3612d ago

Konami already knew they messed up since the backlash, then the PST Kitchen horror VR game announcement, then the Allison Road game, and a few others are popping up. THATS WHAT YOU GET!

Now Del Toro and Kojima, I hope you guys are soon to follow with a title, it doesnt have to be related to Silent hills, a ton of us were hyped for what P.T. was

Reibooi3612d ago

I thought about this alot when Konami first cancelled Silent Hills and I thought to myself. As long as Kojima can get the money he can still make Silent Hills exactly as he wanted to and just don't call it Silent Hills.

I mean chances are that the game was going to be a Silent Hill game in name only so I would think not much with the plot would need to change(and even then just change a few names)

So yeah as long as Kojima could get a publisher willing to put up the money to make the game they could still easily do it and just call it something else. Hell I am sure they could still get Reedus if again the publisher wanted to pay him whatever he was set to be paid for Silent Hills.

Either way I am excited to see what happens with Kojima after he is gone from Konami. I love me some Metal Gear but it was always interesting to see when he did something outside of that universe and he will be forced to do that now so I am looking forward to what new stuff he will be working on.

spacedelete3613d ago

call it "Resident Hills" and that would be a nice jab at both Konami and Capcom.

Burrito26a3613d ago

Silent Evil would be better.

Concertoine3613d ago (Edited 3613d ago )

Uncommunicative Mountains, or Boisterous Plateaus

But first they'll release:

TP: bathroom simulator

Arkardo3613d ago

Call it Project Terror and make fun of the Konami's P.T.

Azzanation3612d ago

I am just curious, because I have no idea what happened between the two factions, but how do you know it was Komani's fault and that Kojima and Del Toro are the good guys?

To favour one side and not knowing what exactly happen between the two baffles my mind.

I am not hating on anybody until I know exactly what happened.

Concertoine3612d ago

I see where you're coming from. But Konami has ran this series into the ground, and for them to pass on the perfect opportunity to save it (regardless of circumstances), is ridiculous. Also, they already ruined Castlevania and Contra and seem to be moving away from console gaming.

showtimefolks3612d ago

I think once kojima hits the one market there will be a lot of demand for his services. Look at some of the top Japanese developers signing with big publishers

I really wouldn't be surprised if kojima signs a 3 game deal with a publisher where he gets to own the IP

ThunderPulse3612d ago

If they ruin MGSV I will be so angry!

gangsta_red3613d ago

Wow, I hope they do come together, form a studio and make the game they wanted.

Time to go hit Kickstarter, I'm sure this project would break Shenmue record no problem.

Concertoine3613d ago

I doubt they'll need a kickstarter. The whole industry will be vying for Kojima.

Sucks that the Fox engine will probably be off limits though. It worked out so well for PT.

shodai3613d ago

any company should/could back them up, and they would be successful. 3rd parties or one of the big three could and it would benefit them. Actually, if Sony was smart and since it is shuhei Yoshida which is leading first party support, he should already be in talks to build them their own studios, it would be a brilliant move. Same goes for microsoft or nintendo (but I doubt nintendo would do it). if it was a first party it would drive console sales and game sales for any company, they would not lose a penny and they would gain quite a lot.

SpaceRanger3613d ago (Edited 3613d ago )

It's honestly great to hear that Kojima is still involved in a creative project in some way shape or form. Talent like his shouldn't be overlooked.

Maybe there's the potential for that project to be another PT like "horror" demo. Which could very well lead to an exclusive game for the PS4. A lot of thought out assumptions on my part, but the way the Silent Hills project seemed to be going at the time...I wouldn't be surprised. That's my take on it.

Edit:
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if their PT leads to them innovating it into a business for game trailers (basically making fancy professional playable teasers instead of full on demos). Their collaboration together would no doubt make something like that go well.

Transporter473613d ago

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew it was possible. I really hope they make a new PT.

Sm00thNinja3613d ago

Safe to say regardless it won't be Silent Hills and starting from scratch won't be seeing this anytime this generation

VJGenova3613d ago

Not sure why you're ruling out this gen. 4-5 years is ample time to create a game.

I Owe You An Apology, Hideo Kojima, I Wasn't Familiar With Your Game

Hideo Kojima and PlayStation go together like hobbits and breakfasts. That is to say, they're meant to be together, but they're also happy to serve up a PC port or afternoon tea if the time is right. Kojima's long-time collaboration with Sony means it always feels odd to see his name next to an Xbox logo, like Master Chief appearing on your PS5 or glimpsing your teacher in the big Tesco doing her weekly shop.

yawn. ^ All of this opinion piece sounds like someone’s recount when they get out of the norm and go on a hiking vacation and boast about their “life changing moments” over things extremely common and accessible to everyone. Get a rocket ship and take some selfies already. jezzus .

100% the guy is the absolute king of his own bullshit. Kojima and his fans baffle me with how brazen they are with it!

Kojima is as dumb as a stack of bricks. 🤷 His lust over gamers hating his games is just silly. He's a lousy story teller and he should stick to making games built around compelling gameplay.... The moment a cutscene starts my eyes auto roll.

Z50126d ago

Couldn't even imagine rolling my eyes since 1998

P_Bomb26d ago

Dumb as a stack of bricks? Funny, some comments have the same effect on me. Instant eye roll.🙄

jznrpg27d ago

I’m replaying the first game it’s great. It’s not for everyone no doubt. There are still a lot of people playing it.

anast26d ago

It's a really good game. Heartman is my favorite character.

SlothLordPootus25d ago

I'm playing through it for my first time, enjoying parts of it, and other parts not so much. It's definitely a Kojima ass game in all the good and bad ways. Honestly the combat/stealth sucks ass in it tho, which is really the worst part for me, which is a bit inconceivable given MGS V.

Knushwood Butt25d ago

Exactly. The combat and stealth suck and are just shoehorned in to deliver a layer of challenge.
Hold your breath when going through the same BT areas EVERY time.
Nonsense about weather forecasts when it ALWAYS rains in certain areas no matter what.
Tedious Cliff fights.
Dumb BT fights that you can 100% walk (wade) away from without the enemies attacking you.
Broken lore about dead bodies.
The list is long.
Having said that, I've platinumed both versions from scratch.

-Foxtrot27d ago

Then why do a sequel straight away?

Why not something else like maybe a horror game similar to Silent Hills but rebranded into a new IP.

To be honest, he is in a great situation if he doesn't have to make a mass market product. Means he can make what he wants. I think that's great.
