As it should :)

donthate3622d ago

Seems like that is the best approach for all gamers. Equal treatment from third party.

That said, I am hoping this isn't another "port" debacle, i.e. just an increase in resolution and frame rate. For the love of me, let's hope it isn't another Prototype "port" debacle.

Has there been any report of this?

TFJWM3622d ago

Pretty sure its just a boost in resolution, FPS? and all the DLC.

Genuine-User3622d ago

This isn't a sraight up port. Nothing to worry about here.

bluebenjamin3622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

It's not a remaster it's a definitive port aka high Def port. You finally get to play the PC version somewhat

Minute Man 7213622d ago

@ Blue, well it's a remastered version for console gamers

donthate3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

There is a big difference between port, remaster and remake.

A port is what God of War 3 for PS4 is. It is essentially making a game work on a new platform with minimal change in assets if any. The increased resolution and frame rate is a natural progression of more powerful hardware.

A remaster is significant amount of the assets are changed such as textures, cinematics, sound and etc.In short, it's like giving it a new coat of paint. New content might also be added.

A remake is significantly changing the game engine/mechanics and also often includes things from a remaster. Halo: MCC or Gears:UE are both good examples of this. Both have new game mechanics added, dedicated servers, and new assets introduced.

It is not clear to me what Dishonored Definite Edition is. It sounds like a port, because there is no discussion (that I have heard of) about how they changed the game.

For $20 with all the DLC, is a decent deal and is the right way of dealing with existing and new customers. This is in contrast to God of War 3 for PS4 which is simply a port and charges the full $40.

What about people who owned a physical copy?

The_Devil_Hunter3622d ago

I know right, I'm wondering the same thing.

Genuine-User3622d ago

Eurogamer: As far as physical copies go, the rep told us "retailers will have trade in incentives as well. Folks should check with their preferred retailers on what those deals are."

r3f1cul3622d ago

still at $20 for a very slightly increase to visuals seems like a cash grab for sure... it was a great fun game and i enjoyed the setting and characters a lot but it really looks exactly the same as the pc version from years ago :/ even with the dlc i dunno if its worth more then $14.99 at this point for what very little upgrade i see

TFJWM3622d ago

nahh I just bought the PC version since it was $8 and I wanted to check it out. Max settings on the PC are not really that close to the Definitive Edition screenshots.

OT: Nice that they are giving a discount! And to both consoles no less

BenRage33621d ago

Question, when you say not really that close to the Definitive screenshots, are so you saying the Definitive version looks better or worse than the PC version?

Riders republic. Nice. I never bought it but played beta twice. Good fun openworld game.

BigBosss801d ago

I have 3 other mates who like playing multiplayer games. Is this something we will all enjoy together?

Astrokis801d ago

It’s a really fun game when there’s a lot of people on but the player base dropped a lot compared to launch. This should help increase the amount online drastically.

It’s definitely a - I want to chill with my friends type of game so definitely check it out! Also it’s a huge improvement over Steep

MaximusPrime_801d ago

Sounds good. Also, Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC coming a day after. I'll be more likely spending time on that DLC first. But will join when free.

closed_account801d ago (Edited 801d ago )

Riders Republic is a ton of fun and one of the best things Ubisoft has done in recent years IMO.

The music and acting are obnoxious, which I just turn down... but it's so much just freeriding mountain bikes or other stuff across the mountains. I haven't played w friends, but I imagine it would be a ton of fun in MP. Very underrated game!

SlothLordPootus801d ago

I kept getting caught up in other games so I never got around to buying Doom Eternal. If it's good I'll still buy it so i can keep it. The reboot was awesome, i think i played through it about 5 times, and platinumed it.

closed_account801d ago

Same here, I've had Doom Eternal on my wishlist for a long time. I'm definitely jumping in considering the free PS5 upgrade they released.

Storm23800d ago

It is a lot of fun. First FPS in a while that has really grabbed me. And I love FPS games. C’mon Killzone/Resistance series remasters/remakes/sequels…anyt hing.

DefenderOfDoom2800d ago

I agree , Sony has not produced a single player FPS campaign in about 8 years. I already played DOOM Eternal which was awesome.

FallenAngel1984801d ago

A whole lotta Bethesda titles in this lineup

Sackboy also got included as well despite already being as Essential title

crazyCoconuts801d ago

Regarding sackboy, you're right... That's confusing. At least wait until it's not in essential, as it's impossible to have extra without essential.

Welshy801d ago (Edited 801d ago )

Damned if you do and damned if you don't with that one I think. When a former monthly free game goes into the subscription catalog at a later date it also gets criticism, so may as well just add it straight away for people who don't claim it going forward I guess.

Profchaos801d ago

Hopefully the claim on the game counts as a essentials claim so when the game leaves the catalogue it doesn't leave the players library.

I found a similar situation frustrating I played fallout 76 when it was introduced as a premium game a month or so later it was a essentials game and I could not repurchase it so I'll lose the game when it leaves the Library

crazyCoconuts801d ago

Spiderman is in the titles leaving Extra in May. Guess 1st party titles aren't guaranteed to stay

Welshy801d ago

That's just the way of subscription services in general, titles come and go, but I'm sure it'll be back. Maybe it's a Quantum Break deal where it's just a license refresh?

It's one of the reasons I fear a subscription/digital only future. I don't want the platforms telling me what I can and can't play at any given time and waiting of tenterhooks for games I actually want to be available.

closed_account801d ago

Oh boy, that's making me want to jump back into Returnal! Not that I'd mind buying the game, love it.

EvertonFC801d ago

Great Month, own most of them but looking fwd to trying monstor boy, nice sto have EW in my collection now and some wolfeinstein.

Five Legendary Bethesda Titles Get the FPS Boost Treatment on Xbox Series X|S Today

From Xbox Wire: "Hot on the heels of officially welcoming Bethesda’s world-renowned studios to the Xbox family, we’re excited to announce that five of the biggest titles from their vast catalog of games – Dishonored: Definitive Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Prey – will all be updated today to enable FPS Boost on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. And it’s not just owners of these titles that get to take advantage of FPS Boost; all these titles are available with FPS Boost for Xbox Game Pass members too.

As a reminder, FPS Boost employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling the original framerate on select titles. Higher, steadier framerates make games visually smoother, resulting in more immersive gameplay. We partnered closely with developers to enhance the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent. And while not applicable to all games, these new techniques can push game engines to render more quickly for a buttery smooth experience beyond what the original game might have delivered due to the capabilities of the hardware at the time. For the five titles we’ve shared today, gamers can expect to see an increase from 30 fps to nearly 60 fps while enabling FPS Boost."

I wonder if they are going to give this boost to PS5 titles. PS5 is clearly capable. I just am wondering if they put these titles in legacy support or are they going to try and keep them moving forward like they are doing on XSX.

thesoftware7301559d ago

I don't think so as this is a MS incentive, no work required by the game dev.

It should be 100 % possible with PS5. Sony would have to implement a inside team to do the work though.

Orchard1559d ago

From what we’ve heard from devs in the past - these updates are effectively free (in terms of developer time) on Xbox and done by MS where as they require the developer to do work on PS5.

So probably not.

gamer78041559d ago (Edited 1559d ago )

this is an xbox feature, it doesn't translate over to playstation this way, Sony would have to create a similar feature available on the ps5.

there was also a mod that made the game run at 60fps on xbox, but I don't think that mod is available on ps5

Kurisu1559d ago

As a first time Xbox owner with my Series S I'll be giving these games a go. I've always gamed on PlayStation and I've never really got in to the first person genre, or open world western rpgs. Horizon was the first open world Western RPG that I played really, so I'm looking to expand my horizons this gen.

darthv721559d ago

Dishonored is a really good game. You might enjoy it.

Kurisu1559d ago

Thanks. I'll have to give it a go.

camel_toad1559d ago (Edited 1559d ago )

I agree about Dishonored and must also recommend Prey. That and Dishonored are 2 reasons I really trust Arkane Studios. Great developer.

Killer73nova1559d ago

Dishonored: Definitive Edition
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Fallout 4
Fallout 76
Prey

Welshy1559d ago

Calling Fallout 76 a "legendary Bethesda title" is a sick joke, but clowning F76 aside, as a generally PlayStation gamer I really wish Sony would find a way to get access to these updates.

Ever since PS5/Series X started getting all these 60fps updates, it's pretty rough going back to 30fps.

sho0ok3601559d ago

I don't think that this is an update. The games were never updated, but only some tech wizardry from MS tech team.

If am not mistaken, Jason Ronald said since the new consoles are so fast, they have found a way to let the hardware pull the next frame while the current frame is being displayed.

Am not a tech guy, but I think this can be done by Sony too; this has nothing to do with the developers updating their games.

DJStotty1558d ago

Xbox will promote their newly acquired games, why wouldn't they?

Now if it was a different website, maybe have a case.

iplay1up21559d ago

Series X is getting a ton of updates on games I haven't played, or at least not played through. I have only played Skyrim for maybe 3 hours total. I own it for PS4 VR, Switch and Xbox. I guess I will try getting him into it again. I didn't like the PS4 VR version. It was too grainy looking I was super excited to play that version too.

Kurt Russell1558d ago

Nothing beats sitting in a bar in Skyrim VR and drinking beers in real life...

Thanks Covid.
