A List of Excuses from Itagaki as to Why Devil’s Third is Being Panned

Mat @ AYMG: "If you’ve seen the previews for Devil’s Third, you’ll know that it’s currently being panned by the press for being generally poor to play, with unstable frame-rates and dodgy textures."

" Wi-Fi isn’t good enough for Itagaki:"

Online gaming SHOULD be done on a wired connection. Been playing a MOBA over wifi for the last few weeks and it can screw you over so bad.

Baka-akaB3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

Yes i never play on anything else by a wired connection , but it's BS here . Itagaki knew about the Wii U's system beforehand .

And there are still tons of games behaving fine on wifi . People freaking used to play fighting games on ps3 on those and still get , if their net and setup didnt initially blow , green bars from wifi ...

You're supposed to work within the limitation of the system you develop for . Not excuses as to why your game isnt in optimal condition and requiring extra accessories

ChickeyCantor3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

I'm not entirely sure what suggests it's a hardware limitation rather than his personal preference or the shitty development that causes problems.

I doubt it's the hardware. Original xbox did 16 mulltiplayer with Halo. WiiU blows that console out of the water.

Either way the article is nitpicking that point. All he said was use wired then the article writer goes for sensationalism " Wi-Fi isn’t good enough for Itagaki ".

It isn't good enough for me either with any other game. So not entirely sure what the point was.

Ill wait for full reviews by actual gamers though. I can imagine new age game journalists being shitty at playing games to begin with.

AskYourMumGaming3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

@ChickeyCantor The hardware limitation is that the Wii U doesn't have an Ethernet port as standard.

It seems illogical to me to suggest that the game should be running over an Ethernet cable when the only built-in internet feature is Wi-Fi.

Also, never really had any trouble with the Wii U's Wi-Fi, and Splatoon is a good example of that.

Baka-akaB3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

"It isn't good enough for me either with any other game. So not entirely sure what the point was. "

The point is others don't use it as an excuse for any shortcoming of their games .

Stand by your game ok fine , but dont bother arguing that everything wrong is because of a setup , acessories , hardware or others . he's been defensive like that on everything about the game .

And like said above , the console is by default Wifi only . He knows that , and everyone else on WiiU works around that without moaning

ChickeyCantor3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

" The point is others don't use it as an excuse for any shortcoming of their games .
"

Again, what suggests he said that for shortcomings of his game?

I mean most of the things is just BS. But I don't understand why that point from all the things he said is on the list.

" but dont bother arguing that everything wrong is because of a setup , acessories , hardware or others . he's been defensive like that on everything about the game . "

All he recommended was use a wired connection.

" And like said above , the console is by default Wifi only . He knows that , and everyone else on WiiU works around that without moaning"

Again, what exactly suggests that he was moaning rather than giving his personal opinion?

I would have probably said the same regardless of the game.

It literally quotes " [Recommended Playing Devices]"
I'ts a recommendation, not a requirement.

The guy is full of shit. But that point specifically is just reaching. If you can't find enough points to make your article sound interesting then maybe tone down the sensationalism.

Baka-akaB3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

I'll concede that it's indeed not in the article you're right on that , but it has been the attitude he displayed lately . So i can't help myself from reading and interpreting it like that

What a joke. I can't believe I had any hopes for this game. I thought, maybe, just maybe, that since Nintendo had invested in this, that they had seen a spark worth having, like what they saw in Bayonetta 2, which turned out to be glorious. This is just embarrassing now. Take some responsibility. Stop blaming anyone and anything but yourself. Either way, my wallet will be the judge soon enough.

Mikefizzled3618d ago

There's 3 different spellings of controller in this article. How?
Just sounds like Valhalla aren't that talented a team. I can see the disbanding and Itagaki joining someone like Comcept after this releases.

AskYourMumGaming3618d ago

There's 3 different spellings of "controller" because Itagaki spells it differently each time, and they're all quoted from him.

Angeljuice3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

"Contoroler" is my favourite version.

I really don't understand why he's arguing the toss with gaming journalists though, I can't see him changing a single persons mind by blaming hardware and player skills.

gamingpro3618d ago

What? It's being panned? Link anyone? Surely that's not true

Talk about a kick in the nutter butters

naruga3085d ago (Edited 3085d ago )

this game creator payed his idiocy to change the development for exclusive release on a dying hopeless console with the best way ....the game was generally good i liked it and was the closest thing to a hardcore Ninja Gaiden we could get on new consoles ....but literaly its creator was idiot as f..k to undermine his game (it was obviously downgraded for Wii u) and release it exclusively on a underpowered system for some cash, destroyed his name in a moment

rjason123084d ago (Edited 3084d ago )

Oh boo hoo. Someone didn't get a game to come to their system.

@Edmix
Believe me I know the feeling haha, just pushing out a similar statement many others make, just cause.

ShaunCameron3084d ago (Edited 3084d ago )

@ rjason

Apparently.

@ XisThatKid

How did they ask for it? You know the company responsible for the engine used to make the OG game went under forcing Itagaki to scrap it and start over, right? Not to mention THQ, its original publisher, eventually withdrawing support before going under. As for it becoming a Wii U exclusive, Nintendo was the one willing to help Itagaki with the funding to finish making the game.

_-EDMIX-_3084d ago

This is easily one of the stupidest investments I've ever seen any company ever make for an exclusive by a third party. I'm surprised you think the game is any good at all because I don't really believe the Wii U made this game bad, believe it was going to be bad regardless of where it was. The Wii U has a handful of really great games please do not blame the hardware for how crappy this game actually is. To my understanding when you create a game for a specific piece of Hardware your job is to adapt. So do not blame the hardware for why this game was horrible blame the developer for even downgrading the game in the first place as opposed to adapting to their situation. If you have to downgrade a game so significantly that it begins to affect the design and quality you're probably not supposed to be downgrading it in the first place to such a platform. I don't blame the platform in this respect I blame the developer because they chose to continue despite knowing the hardware differences. The regular Wii U exclusives don't have that problem because they were made to actually work on that platform...

@rjason- could be because it sounds to me like he basically likes the game but he's angry at the decision of it being exclusive somewhere else

XisThatKid3084d ago (Edited 3084d ago )

I have not felt so selfish about a game before. I like many waited and waited patiently since this games release and out of no where Wii U exclusive. At the time i didn't have a Wii u and honestly i wanted it for ps3 but that never happened nor for 4. Anyway i honestly am glad this happened. Save for the innocent dev and people involved But i never wanted a game to fail so badly. Not to mention when i finally played it i think it sucks imho. I'm fine with exclusives but when a game's announced for your console or platform of choice then retracted they're asking for it.

bouzebbal3084d ago

he had no big name to start with.. this same guy did the same to DOA4 and Ninja Gaiden for 360 and in the end he talks s### about Team Ninja about NG3 and DOA5. He's a loser !

blackblades3085d ago

Ikr it looked interesting in the beginning before it became an nintendo exclusive. Don't know what happened when it became an exclusive.

_-EDMIX-_3084d ago

Who knows , it was probably always going to be bad.

Ravenor3084d ago

A lot happens when a game gets developed. A proof of concept demo or pre rendered video being received well doesn't necessarily equate to a game game being good.

BLKxSEPTEMBER3084d ago

I'm still looking to buy a copy at a reasonable price.

ocelot073084d ago

Depends on where you are located. Here in the UK you can pick this up for around £12.

BLKxSEPTEMBER3084d ago

I'm in California. I haven't seen a hard copy yet.

xMANB3ARP1G3084d ago

bro you wont they made so few copies they are mostly locked in cages atm in ppls collections waiting for the value to skyrocket.

BLKxSEPTEMBER3084d ago

Yeah that's what I figured.

xMANB3ARP1G3084d ago

i only say that because im in the same boat all physical copies near me were scooped up day one and ebay had a field day

alfcrippinjr3084d ago

and this is why we should not support nintendo any more
they done it with the wii and they killed the ds off for no reason.

total bad for business

ShaunCameron3084d ago

Um. You can still get the main D3rd game, albeit digitally. The only thing they killed here was the online multiplayer.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3084d ago

Wait why are peopole acting like they care now? You didn't when it was released.

gangsta_red3084d ago

Yea, I haven't heard a peep or a whisper of this game since its debut.

gamer78043084d ago

its the principle of it, i don't like seeing any games shut down so quickly

Chaos_Order3084d ago

I don't think Itagaki is crazy for making a Wii U exclusive.

I think he's crazy for pushing out a half baked, flawed as all hell, generic gore fest on the Wii U without making use of any of the console's specific features, and throwing his toys out of the pram when people criticise it.

The ups, downs and future of Tomonobu Itagaki's Devil's Third

Tomonobu Itagaki, outspoken former leader of Tecmo's Team Ninja and current leader of Valhalla Game Studios, has spent the last eight years of his life working on the action game Devil's Third.

PhoenixUp3132d ago

Sucks to spend eight years on a project only to have it flop

MilkMan3132d ago

Love the interview. He's a great developer and I liked Devils Third.
