I recently saw one that said that Xbox one will narrow yhe gap this fall because Xbox one has a lot of exclusive AAA titles this fall.

PS NOW, With the internet connection speed in my country... that's not gonna happen (6 MB tops and for ridiculous prices, I have 4 MB), PS NOW might be a great service but is not a backward compatibility solution, is a netflix of games so it won't use my discs, I would like to use my catalogue, I mean, that's why I still have my PS3, it's not collecting dust either as everytime I've some friends coming to the house I take out my PS3 for multiplayer matches of Tekken Tag and USF4 on the couch but I can't leave the PS3 on the floor of my living room forever you know, I miss my PS3 in the living room but I won't kick out the PS4 or the Wii U to make room for it. BC is a good thing to have and at least the competition is making an effort on that front so why try to diminish that when is not even out yet?

Well PS4 had so many talking points. Lots were talking about FFVII, lots were talking about Shenmue, Last Guardian, Uncharted. Most agree Horizon was the Game of the Show and most pleasant surprise, its jumped straight to the top of a lot of most anticipated list.

XBs biggest talking point by far was BC. Dont get me wrong, its a great feature. When I get an XBOne I will be getting into Tenchu again for sure. (Is it XBOG games as well?, want me some Crimson Skies.) But when the biggest deal about your current gen machine is that you can play last gen games on it something is wrong.

It seams nothing can fix the disaster that started at E3 2013 for Microsoft.

Xbox sales are fixed, it's just the PS4 is the runaway success this gen.

*The reason last gen was even close was because the 360 launched a year before PS3.

*360 was a maximum of $300 less at launch and floated around $100 less most of the gen finally settling for $50 near the end of their run.

*PS3 had poor reception from developers and media, and inferior ports early on.

And even then PS3 still squeaked ahead in over sales, by winning EU and ROW by a fairly large margin and obviously JP over 360.

The tables were turned this gen, so logic demmed the PS4 would take the lead over XBO early, especially in EU, JP, and ROW again, with sales potentially being closer in NA this gen (PS4 is currently ahead).

The only ones who didn't see this were fanboys and stupid analyst.

However, that doesn't meant he XBO is doing bad, because it's not. At first it was doing awful after the launch rush, but the new SKU's, cheaper price has really and exclusives have really turned it around.

Sales wise it depends. You have to factor in things like how much they've invested and how much they're getting back off of that investment. We don't have those figures, but coming off of the success of the 360, they probably invested more in the XB1 than they did the 360 coming off of the failure of the OG Xbox. Then there's the loss from the Kinect investment and the price cuts to boost sales. It's not as simple as just looking at where the XB1 is compared to the 360 at a similar point.

The real question is: how many 360 games will actually become backwards compatible? It would ludicrous to believe 100% of them will receive this treatment. I'll be amazed if even 50% of 360 games become backwards compatible, but that's highly doubtful.

I have to disagree with most people on this site, I think you over look the obvious. While the PS4 sells fantastic numbers it isnt at the expense of the X1. It is in fact at the expense of Nintendo. The Wii sold huge numbers and soundly outsold the PS3 and 360 repectively. The X1 still outsells the 360 so MS hasnt lost its marketshare, Nintendo has. They have gone from the phenom that was the Wii to the disaster that is the WiiU (in regards to sales figures).

Make no mistake, there is no catching the PS4 this generation, that's already said and done. MS however is still very happy with the sales numbers the X1 has put up. People on this site talk about the disaster that is the X1, not so. Yes it could have been better especially due to the disaster that was the MS PR machine at the beginning of this generation, but it still sells very well. Nintendo on the other hand...

1) Different circumstances, different investments, different expectations.

2) Both companies benefited from Nintendo targeting a different market. Business wasn't hurt as much as it could have been, because many of those Wii sales were coming from people who wouldn't buy a 360 or PS3 anyway, and they didn't have to worry about Wii raking in the multiplat sales or netting 3rd party exclusives. The PS4 and XB1 target the same audience and compete over those 3rd parties.

He's basically saying that Nintendo and Sony have switched places this gen and Microsoft is doing better, sales wise than they did with the Xbox 360. Microsoft hasn't lost market share. The only thing different is that the WiiU isn't doing as well as the PS3 did and the PS4 is getting more marketshare from the lost marketshare of Nintendo.

Same time frame in the consoles life, the Xbox One sold about 100,000 more consoles this NPD month than the Xbox 360 did in the June 2007 NPD.

No way that X1 was able to pull ahead of the PS3 in June. X1 did 297K in the US. Its presence in Europe, Asia, and RoW isn't strong enough to surpass PS3's worldwide 408K for that month.

Microsoft's fastest selling console is indeed falling behind Sony's slowest selling console, and everyone seems to be okay with it.

My backlog will keep me busy so I'll pick up Bloodborne for a nice $20 on a holiday discount. Then there's Persona 5 and this pretty awesome game I've been playing in Alpha on Steam, releasing on PS4, called The Forest. Just off the top of my head.

I'd be careful throwing that "GOOD" word around. Two of those franchises you listed aren't even made by the developers that made them famous. One has zero experience making a game in the franchise. Remember how everyone flipped when just a few people left Naughty Dog?

MS gambled on gamers wanting more than a gaming machine (some do...) but mostly, they just want the higher powered machine with a focus on games, not focused on media.

E3 was June 16-18...meaning the BC announcement wasn't till then, so more than half the month, that announcement didn't even exist. Not that one announcement like that would sway sales that much. Also BC isn't even a thing past preview until fall...so all the people pretending they are shocked by that not having an impact are clearly viewing the world through goggles. Also...Sony has been very specific about not releasing numbers...so how much exactly more did they sell? MS at least released a percentage over what they sold last year. Lastly, MS has also confirmed that starting the week of E3, MS CRUSHED PS4 in sales....so the theories of E3 not helping MS actually look bogus.

Stop cheering for one console to crush the other in sales...you get nothing for it, and you want there to be competition on both sides...not just one. Exhibit A...this holiday Season.

Wow... quick to call others fanboys when your comment actually mentions crushing PS4 sales. MS were all up in NPD last gen with numbers. This Gen there are still no actual XB1 numbers, and sales are combined for their 2 systems. Sony never announced NPD numbers last gen and they are not doing so this gen... win or lose. Sony has been very specific about not releasing numbers since last gen. This is nothing new.

MS marketing spin on E3 week seems like something for the fans to get hyped up about, or talk about. If sales were up 74% in the E3 week, how was it prior to that? If it wasn't for E3 how lower would it be? I think those questions are more viable ones.

And again with the "holiday season". Yes MS wins NPD over the holiday, but fails to deliver this consistently for the rest of the year. They also fail to make an impact worldwide over the holidays. So the gap may close in the US/NPD over the holidays, but widens worldwide, and continues to widen after the holidays in all areas.

But wait BC and Direct X12 is coming... right? Even though the the XB1 is cheaper and has cheaper bundles and launched a new SKU.

So how come MS hasn't reported any sales numbers since they shipped 10 million?! Bit hypocritical don't you think? Also the reason they give you percentages is because it's easier to fool you with.

For example if last year I sold 100 units and this year I sold 200 units then I can say that my sales increased 100% over last year, but, if my opposition sold 10,000 units would you still think that increased percentage is good?! Nope.

Also for all you know the week before the sold a 1000 units and the following week the sold 1740 which would be 74% increase and still terrible sales. With no numbers from MS playing percentages is easy.

Funny that Xbox brand sales are only combined between 360 and Xbone when announced.

I'd prefer The Uncharted Collection to anything coming out on XBOne this year except maybe Tombraider. Just pointing out preferences vary and not everyone does cartwheels cos another Halo or another Gears or another Forza or another Fable is coming out.

These games are on such a rinse and repeat cycle and have been for years. Last half of last gen got very stagnant for XB. Its not as bad as Assassins Creed or Call of Duty but with 2 Halo games and 3 Forzas in the first 2 years its not exactly fresh either, nor does that bode well for the future as it looks like MS is following familar patterns.

Oh well, like I said preferences vary and the XB fans eat it up so thats good for them. But you shouldnt think things like Playstation has nothing to counter these games because they are not for everyone.

The MS lineup is what is expected of MS at this point in the generation. Where are the surprises? Everybody under the sun, Xbox fan or not, knew that Halo, Gears, Fable, and Forza would be coming this year. (in some shape or form). Those are great franchises and all. But, as you said, this is the standard MS lineup. It will excite the fanbase (who've probably already gotten an Xbox One), but it won't go too far in garnering new fans.
In the end, Sony has played their hand the way they do. They have provided trusted IP, new IP, and diverse set of indies to broaden their appeal...and they've done that for the entirety of the year and not just the holidays.
IMO, those that see this as a "Sony needs to counter..." situation have it all wrong. THIS is MS's counter to Sony's year. MS is bringing out it's biggest hitters to try to slow the momentum of the PS4.

Why would Sony "counter" Halo and Gears remaster, when the third partly line is so strong over the holidays? They've made exclusive content and deals... isn't this what MS did with the 360 for the entirety of last gen? Here's a counter for Halo 4... UC4. Doesn't have to be holidays. Here's a counter for Gears Remaster, GOW3 remaster... yes a single game of a franchise... doesn't have to be holiday.

Here are some more games which will not be on MS's platform. May not be Tripple A, but they are exclusive experiences found on PS4 and not XB1... none of this was on the E3 stage.

I'm curious what july sales will be like. Here in germany you can get the basic 500gb ps4 for 333,- euros and there are alot of bundles at a good price. Shops want to get rid of them because of the 1tb anf the new cuh-1200 model. If this is going on in all regions i think sales will be enormous next month.
