PS4 Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection vs PS3 Uncharted 2 Screenshot Comparison: a Big Difference

Yesterday Sony Computer Entertainment released the first batch of screenshots of the remastered version of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves included in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

It’s often hard to compare two versions of the same game, especially when the original was as good looking (for the time) as Uncharted 2. Rose-tinted glasses driven by fond memories often set in, so a good ol’ fashioned screenshot comparison is a good way to gauge just how much the game has been improved.

This is BS
Ps3 version doesn't look like that.

It the same thing with TLOU too...whatever site who compare them
they blur the image of the ps3 version to make it look like a big gap.

Gazondaily3572d ago

Yeah wtf is up with the PS3 version? It did not look that blurry at all.

IIFloodyII3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

You'd be surprised, I recently played a bit of The Last of Us on PS3 and was blown away at had bad in looked compared to what I thought it did. But I think the reason it looks so blurry in the PS3 version is due to the motion blur, the PS4 version has removed it. It'd look much better in motion.

LordMaim3572d ago

It's easy to say that you don't remember the PS3 version being so blurry now, but side by side the difference is night and day. Memory is a funny thing.

NukaCola3572d ago

Well I am going to play through this again. UC2 and UC3 are going to look great, but I am insanely pumped to get what UC1 all polished up looks like.

specialguest3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

Definitely calling BS on that sites comparison. It was never that blurry. I found a site with an UC2 article posted back in 2010. Here's what the 3rd picture of Nathan zip-lining down supposed to look like:

http://www.joelipe.com/wp-c...

Original article here: http://www.joelipe.com/2010...

As you can see, it doesn't look like the blurry mess they posted. Dualshocker is such a sleezy site that would do anything to overhype things. This is their version:

LordMaim

No my friend
it's not just my memory
since i still own my ps3 along with my brother ps4
I loaded up uncharted 2 to see it again
And i was right
The game still look amazing and those pics are indeed a BS.

I hope they have a trade in offer cause it looks nice.

XboxOneX3572d ago

DualShockers are one of the best websites posted to N4G and to say they would change the PS3 screenshots and make the blurry is crazy. The people behind DualShockers would NEVER risk losing all credibility to do something like that

MadLad3572d ago

Hey look, Santa Monica.
A proper remaster.

DialgaMarine3572d ago

I guess the problem there was that God of War 3 was 1080i on PS3, and always ran anywhere from 32 - 60 FPS throughout the game. It already looked and ran great. Besides the framerate, there really couldn't be any noticeable difference, unless they flat rebuilt the game from the ground up. I think the remaster is simply there to get people ready for God of War 4.

MadLad3572d ago

Upping overall texture resolution and adding in some better effects would have been a simple inclusion that cost them virtually nothing, not to mention wouldn't have taken long to implement.

I guess I'm just at a point where I expect things such as that when concerning re-releasing titles.

Zero1093572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

No reason Ascension shouldn't have been added. Showing the beginning and end to the series (before 4), the MP and all DLC. That would've been worth $40 not just one game with a slight visual upgrade and 60fps.

Bytor3572d ago

The differences wont be as great on uncharted 3 you could already see a a big difference from a map redone for uncharted 3 MP.

JackStraw3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

You know that SSM didn't do the God of War 3 Remaster, right?

@SlapHappyJesus
You're right, I just didn't want people to think SSM took a lazy approach to the Remaster. If the outside team that's handling this collection can make this big of a difference between the two versions, there's no excuse imo. But then again, you never know what hurdles a development team faces, nonetheless, it's definitely not worth the $40 price point.

OT: Definitely looking forward to this collection, though. These screenshots were pretty awesome.

MadLad3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

Was unaware.
Just looked into it, and it was handled by a development team unknown at least to me.

Possibly explains the barebones port, though still doesn't justify it in my eyes.

So simply take my original post and replace "Santa Monica" with Sony themselves, I guess.

And as per your additional comment, no worries. I didn't read any negativity in your words, guy. :)

Th3o3572d ago

Why are people saying Remaster so much? It's a collection lol

FF 7 is a remaster, Halo Anniversay is a Remaster lol

When you remaster, you add more to the original game, not just graphics and polish.

This is an HD update:)

Either way this is a Day one buy for me. I didn't like the 3rd Uncharted too much, but the visuals, the desert and the plane scene are well worth the play through.

My Gem in the collection is Uncharted 2, a master piece of a game!

I wonder if they will be preserving the coop, I doubt they will:(

MadLad3572d ago

I think many would call what you just described a remake.

A remastering tends to ring true of an up in resolution and possibly frame rate. That's the bare necessities. Improvements in overall visual quality, effects and the like, are also very welcome.

Whatever the terminology you choose to use, I feel there's an argument to be made that what was on offer, considering God of War 3 isn't that old of a game, and considering the overall simple improvements over the original, asking almost full retail could be seen as a bit of a push.

It's all up to the consumer, however.

Th3o3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

I miss spoke with "add more to original" I mean fidelity wise.

And yes, 40$ is a lot. 20$ or 30$ would've been a little easier to swallow.

IIFloodyII3572d ago

You're confusing a remaster with a remake. A Remaster is literally just improving the graphics (textures, lighting, particle effects etc), a resolution bump, and usually (but sadly not always) better frame rate, usually 60FPS, if it was originally capped at 30.

A remake, is them adding stuff and remaking old assets.

donthate3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

Yup!

It is a port of 3 games into a collection. At least this is a lot better value than God of War 3 port, but has no multiplayer.

@SlapHappyJesus:

"I think many would call what you just described a remake. "

No, it is not. This is a port.

"A remastering tends to ring true of an up in resolution and possibly frame rate. That's the bare necessities. Improvements in overall visual quality, effects and the like, are also very welcome."

No, a remaster means they are doing things to the game that significantly changes the look, sound or feel of the game in combination.

Uncharted Collection so far uses all the assets, and all the dev did is to move the game over to the PS4. All the assets are the same, no work has been done on the game play (not needed) and the sound is not re-recorded. No extra content added.

In short, this is a port. Otherwise, we would start calling all the PC versions a "remaster" in stead of what they really are a "port"!!!

DERKADER3572d ago

Remake, Remaster, Definitive, Collection. They're all just designed to maximize profit with minimal cost and man power.

raztad3572d ago

@DERKADER

I agree. However a bundle of 3 games at much higher resolution and framerate is a great way to bring new players to the franchise, and a good reason to replay the games down the line when the collection gets a nice price drop.

deafdani3572d ago

Remaster = polishing the original game, leaving the core engine intact. (Zelda Wind Waker HD, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection).

Remake = making a game again from the ground up. (Golden Eye 007 for Wii, Conker's Bad Fur Day for Xbox, Star Fox 64).

An HD update falls under the category of remaster.

BitbyDeath3572d ago

They already announced the collection will have gameplay changes.

It's BluePoint, not Naughty Dogs. Geez, will you ever stop your ranting, insult and mock ? Even I look your comment history, even I know you have a right to complain, but Jesus too much Sony complaining and praising too much on Microsoft. Well, I understand Microsft did everything rights, but both Sony and Microsoft have pro and cons.

MadLad3572d ago (Edited 3572d ago )

To be fair, this is a site normally flooded with positive press for Sony, and typically a larger emphasis on negativity towards MS.

I feel I am pretty good about giving credit where it is due, and would argue it's more the topics at hand, and less about bias on my part.

I'm actually pretty negative when it comes to Microsoft as well, but they've actually been making strides this last year or so.
In fact, if you look back, one of the last statements I've made on MS is that, just like here, I question the pricing for the re-release of Gears of War for the Xbox One. And that actually is a rather fleshed out re-release.

I mean, I don't even yet own a One. Nor a PS4, however.

With that though, I am out of bubbles. Thus that's all I can really offer in terms of defending myself here.

TwoForce3572d ago

@SlapHappyJesus history does repeat all time.

NeverHeavyMan3572d ago

"To be fair, this is a site normally flooded with positive press for Sony, and typically a larger emphasis on negativity towards MS."

- This just tells me that you either wren't here at the beginning of last gen or didn't care to acknowledge the climate then.

ANYWAY, on topic, these games already looked fantastic, so this extra bump in quality is icing, as we wait for Uncharted 4.

I'm only wanted to see how they enhance Uncharted 1. Although UC1 is plague with texture problem and screen tearing, it was such a great game, great storyline, Simon Templeman, the chemistry between the characters all perfect.

I hope they include motion sensor off option for UC1.

Uncharted 2 Is the Most Important PlayStation Exclusive of All Time

In a list of games that defined the PlayStation 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would certainly be one of the top contenders. The blockbuster sequel to 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune not only received critical acclaim and became a massive hit for Sony’s third console when it was released 15 years ago on October 13th, 2009, but it also cemented Naughty Dog’s future as a developer of cinematic, story-driven action-adventure games as opposed to its history of colorful platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter from previous PlayStation generations. To this day, Uncharted 2 stands as one of the PS3’s best exclusives and one of the most important PlayStation games of all time.

gold_drake170d ago

it was pretty good. especially the multiplayer

KyRo170d ago

I loved this era on multiplayer games from Sony. People used to call the modes tacked on multiplayer but they were enjoyable. I loved Factions even more. I'm Still gutted that the second one isn't coming out.

-Foxtrot170d ago

Yeah, that one game where it not only has an amazing single player but the multiplayer was also just as good.

A fresh a breath air with it's more "skill focused, less is more" multiplayer in a time during COD fever where every other game with online was trying to be like it.

Shame NaughtyDog eventually did do COD like things with Uncharted 3 and 4, they ruined what made the original so good. It become an over the top arcade fest in the end.

Inverno170d ago

Ironic cause the MP was basically Halo, and Bungie helped on the technical side of things too. MP was more simple back then, I've said this before but I played U2 MP religiously. I sucked at it like you have no idea, but mah gawd did I have so much fun. Can't find an MP game that hooked me like U2s these days. Then Factions came along and while it had its problem I found new religion with it. Agh damn it why did they cancel Factions 2 bruhh.

gold_drake170d ago

i had so much fun too, played almost every night with mates or cousins baha

Relientk77170d ago

It is for sure my favorite game in the series. It's such a blast to play. The train levels still hold up and are fun as hell as well as the entire game.

RaidenBlack170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Still remember the first gameplay video ... shooting the chasing truck and then the beautiful visuals & details whilst traversing the dilapidated Nepal streets ... perfection
Too bad Sony never ported the trilogy to PC ...

RaiderNation170d ago

I would argue it's God of War.

darthv72170d ago

I'll say, the PS3 really did sequels better than people give it credit for. Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Infamous 2... all were better than their initial offerings and still hold up to this day.

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle1033d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.
