GameRevolution: "After years of battling with health issues, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has passed away. At age 55, he served as Director, President, Representative Director, and eventually CEO of Nintendo."
God damn, out of no where. He's a controversial figure but his success cannot be denied. He headed the Wii and DS which made more money than any other platforms (note: profit, not sold). I feel bad for joking that the Wii U was dragging him down with it not too long ago.
He was also a meme machine with his bananas and direct hands. I'm very sad to hear this, he never even resigned so it must've been a swift death after a seeming remission. Otherwise he chose to head the company to the end, which is noble but i wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Who will even succeed him? I assume someone has been picked out if he has been sick for a while. I hope his successor doesn't push even more for mobile like the shareholders have wanted. Iwata refused to go there for so long because he was a game developer at heart and had too much pride to see Nintendo go there.
Way too young. I am not far behind. He had a nice run. Nothing is guarantied in life, except that we are all going to die. If you keep that perspective then it will help you to be more humble. To care about the little things like breathing clean air, being true to who you are... rather than broader things that you have no control over: What religion or color someone is gay, who uses drugs...
Life is short, make the most of it.
Thank you for the fun moments you have contributed to so many Mr.Iwata. My condolences to his family.
That's really sad to hear, no matter how you feel about him at Nintendo CEO. I assumed something was really wrong with him to have missed so many shows as of late, but I wasn't expecting this.
RIP
Edit:
According to his team he died of Bile Duct Cancer. That's awful, and truly sad to hear, and a horrible way to go. I pray for him and his family, and glad to know he's finally move on from his illness.
Even though this is very sad, it is almost comical how there are 1-3 disagrees for every condolence given.
"This is a sad day indeed" (Internet Coward: No it isn't! *Adds disagree vote*)
"Godspeed President Iwata" (Pimply fat troll: No! Go to hell! *Adds disagree vote*)
"Sad news, RIP and best wishes to his family." (Supreme loser without a special someone: It is not sad news! I hope he doesn't rest in peace and screw his family!*Adds disagree vote*)
I bloody hit disagree by accident because I was thinking about how stupid the agree/disagree system is. Doesn't encourage discussion. Whoopsy daisy. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments though.
Just horrible! To pass at such a young age, this visionary introduced me to gaming back on NES, it's really sad to see a legend go. I'm so happy to see gamers coming together to pay there condolences to a man that brought so many innovations of fun in our lives...most of our gaming stories started with the games this man 30 years ago.
Rest in peace Iwata-san, to his family and friends and the team at Nintendo, I grieve with you and hold you all in my prayers
Wow, I'm so shocked right now. Just so sad, RIP Iwata. I came for my daily dose of news and I see this, I can't believe it. I wish his family the best in these trying times.
Nooo NO NO!
Rest in peace, Iwata-san.
