Silent Hill 3 was straight up sorcery. It has better hair animation than most modern games, which is wild to me.

There was a lot of xenophobia in gaming at the time, so anything Japanese getting released in the west at all was nothing short of a miracle. I'm amazed that pokemon is not included on the list. It's a jrpg with a lot complexity and depth while also being by far the most accessible for beginners.
