I think Gears2 and KZ2 are both looking fantastic.

Lets think back on when we saw the first CG trailer for KZ2.
We were all blown away. I think I saw it a hundred times, and showed it to everybody I knew who were a little interested in gaming. Then it turned out Sony hadn't told us the whole truth.

Think of the pressure this put on Guerilla Games.
They had to deliver graphics that they were not even sure was possible. Then now we see they have met the CG trailer.
That is a f_cking job well done.
Sony must have seen something in GG that no one else did.

I hope Sony's big announcement isn't some big new IP. I hope it's a big new studio, because god dammit, Sony's first party games simply sets the standard.

Killzone 2 is indeed the best looking game second place i would say its a tie betwen Resident Evil 5 and Gears 2.

I have to agree that Resistance 2 should have been in this list and GT are clearly going out of their way to ignore it. They'd rather show off SFIV instead. No offense meant to SFIV of course - it's looks good, but then again so does that PS3 Naruto fighting game. Soul Calibur IV isn't exactly behind it graphics-wise either.

Gears 2 and Killzone 2 both look great in their own respect, I'm having a hard time determining which looks better.

Regardless of which they pick between those two, it's always a deserved winner imo.

Gears textures suck too. And i know it looks better Resistance 1. But all of the Gears of War textures look all shiny and look alike with different colors. But if you take all lighting off....textures wonk look as good because they wont shine.

A good example of good textures is Metal Gear Solid 4.
Just by looking at the walls, get that feeling they look rough.
Whereas Gears of War you dont get that feeling. They feel like plastic and cheap.

And im not saying Gears sucks or looks bad. IMO I pefer Gears over Resistance (dont hold it against me but its because im tried of FPS's).

The power of Resistance 2. Just check out the lighting, the details, the animations of the characters and the enemies. And check out how the "teaser trailer" from Dec 2007 is all IN GAME. Didnt bots say it couldnt be done and it was all CGI? OWNED. Resistance 2 is going to murder Grays of war 1.5.
And its not even a finished build. Be afraid bots. This fall its gonna hurt so bad, it will feel like as if 12 June 2008 all over again...

all in all every game in there looks AWESOME. KZ2 looks more "realistic/scifi" while gears has the best "fantasy/scifi" graphics. But KZ2 has come a long way to meet the CG trailer that we were shown ways back. and it certainly hasnt disappointed me.

I'm actually going to agree with La Chance for once, Resistance 2 does not look as good as Gears 2, but the game's are unfinished.

Gears of war was revered for great graphics and it's gameplay, so that's where they've built Gears 2 up on first.

resistance was built up to run smooth then to look great ( for a launch title to run so smooth in splitscreen and lag free online, it looked great ) so that's what they're doing now. Getting the game working. I seriously believe that Resistance 2 will be a great looking game, they have full Sony support and the information from the other first party studios.

SF4 is looking sweet. /drools @ KZ2 and Gears 2. I noticed glaring imperfections in RE5 E3 Unedited Trailer (This showing edited those out). It looks great at times and flawed in other times. I just hope they take the time to pollish those out.

And just think, Killzone 2 was still running in Pre-Alpha Code.... this game is going to look even better when it hits shelves because since it was delayed to Feb. 2009, Guerrilla has time to polish the HELL out of Killzone 2.

At first I was thinking that GT was going to give it to Gears 2, but Killzone 2 is just a monster of a game and it will definantly be one of the most graphically impressive games of 2009 ( along with MAG, and God of War 3 of course!)

Yet, most of these games still can't match the brilliance that is Uncharted. Still one of the best looking games ever made. Glad to see Killzone 2 won, but, really, it had to. Technically speaking, Killzone 2 has the best graphics. I used to think Gears 2 had better graphics than Resistance 2, but that was before I saw an HD video with beautiful fleshy and moist character models. San Francisco looks stunning and looks every bit as good as Killzone 2. It's Chicago that needs a little work. The Leviathan is one of the best models I've ever seen, but the environment needs a bit of work. As some have already mentioned, they need to add some reflections in the water and glass. Nicer textures for some of the insides of the building, etc... It doesn't help that Chicago was the big level they were pushing. San Francisco made my eyes well up.

Besides that, nice selection. Fallout 3... meh. It looks okay. I didn't think it was all that great. Maybe I should watch some higher quality videos. Mirror's Edge definitely should have been mentioned. Big no no and wag of the finger for not making the nominees list. Other than that, can't wait to see how the final versions turn up. :D

Hard to believe that with PS3 in your name that you thought both looked better than gears 2. Funny how that worked out. For gfx KZ 2 > gears 2 > resistance 2. Let's not bring gameplay into this though. I dont have enough tissues to pass out to all the killzone fans. Sony is putting it's holiday spot light on resistance not killzone. VirusE, that was actually an accident. I was trying to come up with a user name since my original (Basch) was taken. At that time, I had no PSN ID or Xbox Live GamerTag. I had no working Internet connection for my systems. So I had to guess which names would work. I had recently signed up at MyResistance with the same problem and decided to go with BaschPS3 so it would be easier to remember (Basch on PS3 game's website).

When I signed up at N4G, I spent too much time coming up with a name and threw the towel in and tried BaschPS3 since I had used it for MyRes and thought no one else would take that. Since then, I now have a working internet connection to all three of my systems (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii).

The name I now use for my PSN ID/GamerTag is NeoBasch. If I knew of a way to change my current user name, believe me, I would. As for assumptions. You should never assume. I have had my 360 since I got my delayed preorder in February (I take it no one remembers those shortages). I bought the Wii later that year, and the PS3 a year after that.

I have played many games and found favorites for each system. I use each quite extensively. No matter what it may seem like from any comments on these boards, because frankly you can't judge a person through the keystrokes they make.

I'm sorry you don't agree that I should be able to express myself, even if it goes against popular opinion (as the media would make it seem). Unlike them, I give everything a fair shake and am open to a multitude of genres. I love new and original IPs and invest in them to show my appreciation. Still, I do not push my ideals on others, because I have enough respect to know that each individual is unique and equally important. Everyone is free to express they're opinion. At least, that is what I believe.

That big monster in RE:2 just didn't cut it, it looked retarded. Even the guy playing it was boring. Now "Shadow of the Colossus" makes HUGE monsters like that look more entertaining to beat.

Of course this is all graphics, GAMEplay is still in question with KZ2.

Gears 2 looked marginally better than Gears did, and gameplay wise probably more of been there and done that, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it'll be a release date purchase for me.

Seems it's a close call. IGN gave best graphics technology to Gears of War 2.

I think it's set in stone now that in this generation, no console will outperform the other in visuals. It will be all up to the devs.

Gear 2 looks good, but the graphics are a bit blocky compared to Killzone 2, and the animation smoothness isn't even close. Gears 1/2 just play a bit jerky animation wise. When you shoot enemies or melee attack them in Killzone 2, they react so realistically. Not so much in Gears 2, and that new mechanic they added for enemy stomping has lead to most enemy injuries meaning they end up in the same crawl animation every single time. They did zip when it comes to improving animations. Killzone 2 kills it in that area. And MP takes a visual hit in Gears 2. Not so in KZ2 it seems.
