The Wii U has been a disaster for Nintendo but I do think they'll bounce back - their IP's still appeal to a lot of people.

Cindy-rella3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

People shouldnt get frustrated by nintendos antics unless they work for Nintendo directly.

Most gamers are aware of Nintendos ways but chooses to let it bother them when Nintendo doesnt do something they think they should do. People should just move on and support the company that seems like they care about gamers hobbies. Nintendo have been in the gaming industry for almost 4 decades but they seem to be stuck in the past while most of their fans have grown up to be adults. Things that are standard in the gaming industry arent adopted by nintendo and theyve been like that for years. People should move on to better consoles or gaming systems with games and practices that interests them.

Some people might be fans of nintedo franchises which is ok but to continually support them while they cant adopt a lot of policies that makes sense or are standard elsewhere is silly. Nes fanatics will be upset about lack of voice chat in splatoon but still go out there and buy the game making it successful only to make Nintendo emboldened to continue with their ways.

The Nintendo NX will go on the same path as the gamecube, wii and wii u so expect game droughts, bad third party support, bad online system, weak hardware etc

breakpad3605d ago (Edited 3605d ago )

i like Nintendo 's strategy which remained a bit classic ..Fully operational and polished games on Disc ,no many obnoxious money thieving DlC , no big support for digital games ..etcetc since online gaming became a permanent thing games became garbage

Viper73605d ago

For my understanding Nintendo has been very active on the DLC and Amiibo front lately, which are kinda the same thing as "money thieving dlc"

SilentNegotiator3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

Their IPs aren't the problem. It's the lack of third party support. They don't make systems as powerful as developers demand and they keep creating interfaces that complicate porting games to their system, leading to gamers having a more limited selection of games.

Not a lot of gamers want to buy a system for JUST first party games.

You can argue "chicken or the egg?" all day long about who's more at fault ("Nintendo or the third party developers?"), but it doesn't matter. All that matters is that the burden is on Nintendo to fix the relationship, starting with a console that works for everyone.

People loved Mario, Zelda, etc, etc, etc before motion controls and touch controls and they would still love it if they come out with another system that had neither. With a more straight forward console (that's designed with power and developers in mind instead of gimmicks), people could still play those IPs that they love and also popular third party IPs.

Nintendo are not living in the past, they take more risks and going mobile is not living in the past having 3 consoles instead of 2 is not living in the past, creating an account across pc,tablet,mobile,WiiU,3DS,NX is not living in the past,Dual screen gaming offtv play is not living inthe past,Miiverse is not living in the past.....

Microsft/Sony have consoles that emulate the very 1st consoles thats living in the past, their Online services are quite often broke Hmmm.....

pompombrum3606d ago

Lmfao! Thanks for the laughs.

TheDreamCorridor3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

@gameboy1

I can't tell if you're serious or if you're kidding.

If you're serious, I'm sorry for whatever mental illness you suffer from.

Knushwood Butt3606d ago

You put 'taking more risks' and 'going mobile' in the same sentence.

andibandit3605d ago

Seriously, I could step out of a time machine, ask what games nintendo are releasing..and have no idea about what century it is.

It's hard to understand why anyone would continue to support and make excuses for a company that has shown such little regard for its loyal fans. Nintendo seems so out of touch, intent on "doing their own thing" without any regard for whether their approach will satisfy fans or not. They don't consult developers when designing new hardware, instead taking an arrogant "take it or leave it" approach, and forcing developers to work within a lot of constraints just to make games for their hardware. They don't consult fans when deciding which games to develop, instead just making the games they want to make. And they don't design their hardware to grow, evolve, and deliver solid games for years, instead opting for gimmicks tied to low-spec components, all with the hope of boosting profits.

One of the biggest scams they've pulled has got to be the "New 3DS XL", a new version of that handheld that is REQUIRED to play ONE GAME, but only has minor upgrades to internal components. It's a scam designed to force their diehard fans to re-buy a handheld that they've already bought several times, each time to try to get a slightly better version (remember the original 3DS and its tiny screens?).

I used to be a huge fan of Nintendo and their gaming hardware and software, and still own my original NES, SNES, N64, and GBA SP (and hundreds of games for all of those). But starting with the Gamecube, Nintendo's decisions lost me as a fan; and they continued to make worse and worse hardware each generation, which just reinforced my feelings.

Unfortunately, as long as people like Iwata and Miyamoto are still in charge at Nintendo, nothing is going to change. The NX will come out, and be an underwhelming piece of hardware, based on a gimmick, just like the two previous consoles before it. Nintendo just no longer wants to compete when it comes to gaming products, they are always trying to find that next pot of gold, like the one they found (briefly) with the Wii. Sadly for them, that will probably never happen again, and it feels like their past glory will never be repeated.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

what wrong with staying true to yourself.

Why must companies be the same

Being different is better than being the same
WAY better

I rather have Nintendo be the way they were in the early days than adapting to modern trends which are turning for the worst.

yes and I am talking Payed online, all in one media box, media playback and those irrelevant features for gaming.

Game system so be free online and gaming only related.

ABizzel13606d ago

There's being differnt , and then there's refusing to evolve with the times and being left behind.

Nintendo is completely clueless in that regard. Sony and MS were wise to go with the APU technology they used for their consoles. Nintendo could have done the same with a Trinity APU (just over 1/2 the power of the XBO) and no one is would have complained about performance and the $299 price would be justified.

3rd party ports would have been much easier, cheaper, and the console could have actually had the performance to run them.

Nintendo needs to make a capable online network that they actually use in games the are no brainers. New Siluper Mario should have online co-op, and plenty of their other games.

Finally Nintendo needs to start making the games their fans want and deserve. Pokemon MMO, Pokemon snap, 3D Mario, Zelda Open World, Metroid, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, F Zero, etc...

If Nintendo made a capable console, priced at a reasonable $299, with contemporary hardware for 3rd parties, built a capable online network and used it for first party games, and released the games fans have been asking for over a decade now then Nintendo would be alright.

But 2 generations in a row they've made overpriced and underperforming hardware, with a bare minimum push for online gaming, and drop 1 game fans ask for per generation.

That's the problem.

RPGrinder3606d ago

Another misguided bash Nintendo article?

-Foxtrot3606d ago

Yes because stating the truth is now bashing.

We all did this for Sony back in 2006 and we all did this for Microsoft for their horrible Xbox One reveal.

Nintendo shouldn't get special treatment.

You complain and criticize until they take notice and improve.

RPGrinder3605d ago

Truth? This is the farthest thing from it

well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.

so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them

Abriael5d ago

Yeah doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility as long as they have enough supply.

Si-Fly5d ago

Do people buy each other games consoles for Thanksgiving? I’m in Europe and always assumed it was just Christmas where gifts were exchanged.

Skate-AK5d ago

I don't think it's so much Thanksgiving, but that Black Friday is the day after.

darthv725d ago (Edited 5d ago )

That time is often referred to as the start of the Xmas shopping season. For the last few years, retailers would do 'black Friday' deals at various times throughout the year. While many still prefer to start their shopping in the mid to late November, others will just buy when they feel the time (and prices) are right for them.

gold_drake4d ago

i guess its more black friday, should have been more clear ha

GotGame8184d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.

Rancegamerx5d ago

I agree, I don't see the Switch 2 selling anywhere near the numbers that these predictions suggest or what the general buzz is implying. While the initial sales will likely be strong, driven by diehard fans, I anticipate a gradual decline. It may not drop off immediately, but over time, sales will inevitably taper.

PRIMORDUS5d ago

Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.

Why Portability Still Matters for Nintendo Switch 2—and What We’re Hoping to See

As someone who travels for work I still care about portable systems.

I have found using remote play in a hotel room is an excellent experience in a major city as I've got my console hard wired to a gigabit connection at home however it's not perfect if power trips the console tends to go to the repair section and can't be booted remotely so it's a annoying call to family to power it on for me.

A hotel out of town or regionally though that can cause havok for remote play as I'm always on 5g using it hotel wifi is never good enough for a solid remote play session.

But leaving a stable location and getting onto a plane or train and there's little to no chance of a good experience with remote play thats where something like the switch 2 will really shine for me personally long haul flights are exhausting and one of my most hated things the switch has been invaluable for me and I'll absolutely be upgrading

Goodguy0115d ago

Nintendo has always done it the best, handheld is in their genes. I do wish their dock could be like an egpu though and it make it much more powerful, it's a bit harder for me to play portable now for some odd reason, love just sitting on the couch with a big screen and controller. And ofc always great to have the portable option and for me it's best for smaller games.

jznrpg15d ago

I was hoping for a little more than 540p upscaled

UltimateOwnage15d ago

IMO, 540P upscaled in portable mode to a 1080P screen using DLSS on the tensor cores will likely extend battery life using a lower TDP and provide much better anti-aliasing and similar clarity compared to native 1080P with med/low AA at a higher TDP. It’s just a better way to use a mobile chipset. That’s not a flaw or weakness, it’s a key benefit for the portable design of the platform.

repsahj15d ago

Lol, even the impressive upscaling feature of Switch 2 can now spin to a negative one.

jznrpg14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Switch 1 was hitting 720p and above that with no upscale, so why can’t they have a higher res and upscale it more

repsahj14d ago

@jznrpg
Because of that even the current gen games will now run on switch 2 that looked as good and with decent framerate as the current gen consoles.

Do you watch Nintendo's hands on preview for switch 2? LOL.

badz14914d ago

because aside from Nintendo's own games which have their dedicated fanbase, portability is the only other thing it has going for it. Nintendo will be eliminated faster than xbox if they ever decide to do a dedicated home console again. going the hybrid way is the only way left for them and they are lucky they dominated the portable market all those years ago. imagine the power of the Switch 2 as a console this day and age with the same price as PS5. they will be the laughing stock of the market.

Just throwing shade at Ubisoft like that.

"Nintendo’s audience will buy the game if it wants to, regardless of sales."

Sales? What sales? People buy Nintendo games at full price because they don't go on sale.

SlothLordPootus33d ago

That and the fact that their 3rd party support has been near nonexistent, so if you own the system you have basically no choice in what to buy. Especially with the switch it was nintendo first party or indies.

Obelisk9233d ago

Each company just wants to make the most profit, and Nintendo is such a strong brand that can afford to sell games at full prices withouth sales.
Weaker brands need to go on sale in order to continue selling some units.
That's just how it goes.

Christopher33d ago

Why I don't play Switch games and won't be buying a Switch 2. I tried, but it's just not for me or my wallet.

Dudebro32d ago

Nintendo is a game company only.althought I don't like it you can't see where they're coming from.nintendo doesn't have a diverse portfolio.

theres a reason why hes a "former" employee.

woth that kinda mindset, i would have fired him too ha.

__SteakDeck__33d ago

What are you talking about? He wasn’t fired. Nintendo wanted to move his show to Seattle and he didn’t want to leave California.

franwex33d ago

Keeping it real? I would’ve promoted him.

lukasmain34d ago

They value their games? Meaning others who have sales don't? How fking rude of this dude. Nintendo are really arrogant

LucasRuinedChildhood33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Hopefully they get humbled like with the 3DS launch but I doubt it. There's enough early adopters that are very enthusiastic.

VariantAEC32d ago

I don't doubt that Nintendo will be forced to swallow their pride again.

SoloGamer133d ago

because Nintendo is anti-consumer
