Adam Brown from CheatCC writes: Decades before Kratos made Greek mythology in video games cool again, Rygar was pioneering it in the arcade and on the Nintendo Entertainment System. With its mix of platforming and the unique diskarmor weapon, Rygar was an instant classic and managed to garner a dedicated fan base. Although it seemed like an incredibly long wait, Rygar resurfaced on the PS2 nearly six years ago. Rygar: The Legendary Adventure was an adequate title but had several glaring issues that kept it from completely rekindling fans love for the franchise. This is where Rygar: The Battle of Argos for the Wii comes in.
Rygar, which is now available for Nintendo Switch Online, did a lot of things right, particularly when it came to creating an immersive world that felt interconnected.
Was a pretty cool game back then. And for those that didn't play it, the PS2 game was a pretty cool update of the franchise. Still got that one.
Could see a 2D update made like Bionic Commando got from Capcom.
I remember renting this and finishing it in one day. Thoroughly engrossing. Would like to see a follow up to this.
The only arcade game that after playing the crap out of it at a laundromat. I was able to finish, from start to the end on one quarter. Love that game.
glad they added it to switch online...haven't played it yet though..need to fire it up
Hamster Corporation, the company behind the Ninja Jajamaru-kun game for 3DS, will bring Japanese arcade games to PlayStation 4 this spring.
Peter Tieryas continues his series of exploring favorite game levels Rygar from the original Nintendo, exploring Sagila’s Cave.
I rented this and was glued to it until I beat it. This was the first metroidvania type game but unfortunately was forgotten. I'm glad someone's giving it the attention it deserves.
Beating that game when I was like 10 remains one of my greatest gaming accomplishments.
Well it wasn't forgotten, in 2002 they made a 3D PS2 Rygar: The Legendary Adventure. I owned this original one though, and it was a very cool metroidvania game. It was weird, how it'd be a top-down game in certain areas, then go to the sidescrolling in others. The music was always very memorable. They need to make another sequel, but in this same metroidvania style. If I remember correctly the PS2 game was just level based. This was a great game overall.
