Heroes of Handheld 189 is here, with news about Sonic Mania, Call of Duty WW2, Etrian Odyssey and Assault Android Cactus for PS Vita is cancelled.
Things continue to look exceptionally bleak for the Japanese console games market, according to data from Famitsu.
In 2015 the sector’s games market generated ¥321bn, a 13 per cent decline year-on-year. Meanwhile, software sales dropped 16 per cent to ¥191bn, and console sales dipped to ¥130bn – a 8.5 per cent drop off.
Below is the software Top Ten for 2015 in Japan:
1. Monster Hunter X (Capcom) 3DS – 2,441,977
2. Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Akaneko-dan / Shiroinu-tai (Level 5) 3DS – 1,965,202
3. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (Nintendo) 3DS – 1,282,880
4. Splatoon (Nintendo) Wii U – 1,064,897
5. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Square Enix) 3DS – 864,865
Great for 3DS which sold double than PS4 in Japan. As for Wii U I think its missing a Zero here, it cant be 80,000 total sales in Japan for a year.
I really believe the PS4 is going to turn around the Japanese games market this year. It's now cheaper and has a ton of games coming that appeal to the Japanese audience
I mean in the next few months it has Dragon Quest Builders, DoAX3, Yakuza: Kiwami, Nauruto UNS4, Attack on Titan, Gundam Breakers 3, Star Ocean V, Summon Knights 6, Dark Souls III, and even more throughout the year like FFXV and The Last Guardian
You can have games that appeal to that market and still not sell very good. It happens. It just shows the market is not what it was and people have moved onto other things.
Do they even track mobility over there cause I hear its doing quite well. you figure people who have their smartphones with them are also getting in some gaming now and then.
Sony is the reason the market is collapsing. Nintendo has barely changed its market share. It is the ps4 and the Vita that are the failures. The wii u is on track to out sell the gamecube.

Famitsu isn't everything but DQXI 3DS has more votes than the PS4 since it's reveal.
3DS install base is x10 larger.
Dragon Quest sell better on Nintendo system.

I mean, what a specific thing for you to say. A Nintendo handheld, in Japan, at 1/3 of the price of the more successful home console. That must bring a smile to your face.

Really disappointing.
Japan used to be the center of the Galaxy. Now, Japan is becoming more and more like "just another country" for gaming.
US and UK are the large markets for gaming... Then France, Germany, Italy, Japan... Then, all other countries.
Japan still makes the UK look like a pebble in the ocean. These numbers dont include the amount of money spent on mobile gaming in Japan, which is massive. More Jrpgs are on mobile in Japan than any other platform.
NX is coming and if it goes same path as 3DS, Japanese market will se a huge resurgance.
Yo-kai Watch series global sales have topped 10 million, Level-5 announced.
Eight months ago, in March, the series had sold a total of seven million units.
Since then, we’ve seen the release of Yo-kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team and White Dog Squad in Japan, which sold a total of 1.7 million units as of last week, and the original Yo-kai Watch in North America.
December 5 will see the release of Yo-kai Watch Dance: Just Dance Special Version for Wii U in Japan, and December 12 a special ‘Moon Rabbit Team’ update for Yo-kai Watch Busters. On December 19, the second anime movie, o-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!, will debut in Japanese theaters. And in summer 2016, Japan will get Yo-kai Watch 3. Finally, a Yo-kai Watch and Romance of the Three Kingdoms collaboration is also planned.
