Satchell: 'We've Reinvented the Xbox 360'

Microsoft's games division CTO Chris Satchell told the attendees of his Gamefest keynote that the firm's new 360 dashboard, which launches later this year, effectively reboots the console for a wider audience – and presents more chances for developers to monetise their creations.

"What this does is reinvent the Xbox," said Satchell. "I don't think any one has ever done this before – transformed a console during its lifecycle."

-How many features they are adding is still unknown.

The idea of answering question in front of live audience seems interesting, but how is it implemented.

The 360 new dashborad is copied form the apple computer interface and the wii avatar system.

Playstation Man6178d ago

could focus on eliminating that RRoD problem too? It's only been a few years or so that gamers have had to put up with faulty hardware.

Ureval6178d ago

Seriously man, get a life.

Playstation Man6178d ago (Edited 6178d ago )

Is that you?

Seriously though, I'm not fanboying it out, I'm saying that years after release, add-ons in performance and online integration aside, they REALLY need to get that hardware failure under control. As an open-minded consumer who would buy every console if there were a reason to do so, I can't justify buying a 360 because of it.

I have a PS3, PSP, Wii and DS this gen but can't jump in because of the RRoD any time soon. And I've witnessed it happen outside of E3 so I know it's for real and not just living the consumer life in rumors.

It was an honest reponse from an angry consumer.

toughNAME6178d ago

I don't even care about the games! Once Microsoft gets their hardware up to par with Sony's only then will I consider buying their console.

poopsack6178d ago

get a grip

some people are a little to sensitive to the truth here, and "we give you a free repair" is not the way to go. How about you release the console WITHOUT the faulty hardware.

And before breakfast comes out with

what truth? that FF13 is coming to xbox 360?

I say: Up yours, I eat nerds like you for breakfast.

Mr_Showtime16178d ago

You eat nerds for breakfast? lol

On topic: I have to agree with Playstation man, MS have released SKU after SKU of the 360 and each one still suffers from the same the hardware problems, even the elite which is totally unacceptable as a company in my eyes.

Personally being through several RRoD's myself has only angered me more and more and I would gladly trade in my current 360 for one that I know will not get the RRoD.

THAMMER16178d ago

The RRoD is one of the only things SONY only fans and PS3 fanboys just can not let go of. Basically because they do not want to accept the 360 to begin with. The 360 is too aggressive of an competitor for the tastes of a Fanboys, Ditto head or Zealots.

Megatron086178d ago

You think with all the time ps3 fanboys spend waiting on games to come out for their system they could think of something new beside the rrod thing. MS has address the issue more then once already. So seriously get a life and find something better to do then whine about tech issues that game system had 3 years ago it f*cking pathetic.

The new bashboard and all its feature looks and sound very promising. However have to wonder if MS is over hyping it and the importance of it ? I dont spend much time on my bashboard i dont know of anyone that does if that doesnt change with the new update then MS wasted a lot of money and time that could of been use to hype up their fall/holiday line up.

Mr_Showtime16178d ago

you said
"So seriously get a life and find something better to do then whine about tech issues that game system had 3 years ago it f*cking pathetic. "

The only thing that is pathetic is the FACT that the system has been on the market for 3 years and continues to have the SAME problems, even with newer more expensive models.

And as a "victim" of the RRoD I have every right to complain about Microsoft selling me faulty goods taking it for repair several times, only to have it break on me again.

Highwayman6178d ago

No, PlayStation Man has got a very good point here. I love my XB360 but I will admit that everytime I turn it on in the back of my mind somewhere I wonder "Is today the day is RRoD on me?"
I don't ever get this feeling with my PS3. That said, yes MS should work on the hardware faults some more. I can tell I'll be one pissed of S.O.B if my 360 breaks right after I get Fable 2.
----------------------------- ------------------------------- ----------
So, really, no guy you didn't "reinvent" the 360...I'll call it a reinvention when the hardware problems cease to exist...til then...

uie4rhig6177d ago

should reinvent Chris Satchell's face?

Playdead co-founder slammed with lawsuit as bitter row with co-founder escalates

Playdead co-founder Dino Patti is allegedly being sued by his former studio and business partner.
Patti was threatened with a lawsuit earlier this year after he posted a now-deleted LinkedIn post that shared an "unauthorized" picture of co-founder Arnt Jensen and discussed some of Limbo's development. Patti said Jensen demanded a little over $73,000 in "suitable compensation and reimbursement," adding that he had "repeatedly" had such letters over the last nine years.
