Satchell: 'We've Reinvented the Xbox 360'

Microsoft's games division CTO Chris Satchell told the attendees of his Gamefest keynote that the firm's new 360 dashboard, which launches later this year, effectively reboots the console for a wider audience – and presents more chances for developers to monetise their creations.

"What this does is reinvent the Xbox," said Satchell. "I don't think any one has ever done this before – transformed a console during its lifecycle."

Seriously though, I'm not fanboying it out, I'm saying that years after release, add-ons in performance and online integration aside, they REALLY need to get that hardware failure under control. As an open-minded consumer who would buy every console if there were a reason to do so, I can't justify buying a 360 because of it.

I have a PS3, PSP, Wii and DS this gen but can't jump in because of the RRoD any time soon. And I've witnessed it happen outside of E3 so I know it's for real and not just living the consumer life in rumors.

It was an honest reponse from an angry consumer.

On topic: I have to agree with Playstation man, MS have released SKU after SKU of the 360 and each one still suffers from the same the hardware problems, even the elite which is totally unacceptable as a company in my eyes.

Personally being through several RRoD's myself has only angered me more and more and I would gladly trade in my current 360 for one that I know will not get the RRoD.

The RRoD is one of the only things SONY only fans and PS3 fanboys just can not let go of. Basically because they do not want to accept the 360 to begin with. The 360 is too aggressive of an competitor for the tastes of a Fanboys, Ditto head or Zealots.

The only thing that is pathetic is the FACT that the system has been on the market for 3 years and continues to have the SAME problems, even with newer more expensive models.

No, PlayStation Man has got a very good point here. I love my XB360 but I will admit that everytime I turn it on in the back of my mind somewhere I wonder "Is today the day is RRoD on me?"
I don't ever get this feeling with my PS3. That said, yes MS should work on the hardware faults some more. I can tell I'll be one pissed of S.O.B if my 360 breaks right after I get Fable 2.

How in the world does Microsoft expect to attract a new audience of gamers by just changing the dashboard? If Microsoft wants to attract a larger audience they need to start coming out with more big game titles that aren't rated M because when you think about it, almost all of the 360's biggest game titles are rated M.

Well if MS maximized the potential of the Xbox 360 during the R and D phase of its concoction, and if they wouldn't of half-a$$ed it by rushing it to market a year before the competition, all of this would have been available on day one or during the following months of its launch.

How does that make sense? Turn it around and M$ will NOT get Metal Gear, SOCOM, LBP, Gran Turismo, Killzone, Tekken, Uncharted, Resistance, Motor Storm...blah blah blah. It's great having exclusives, but it's also great having 1st party games.

FF13 might have been lost, but I would love to see how the 360 will handle that...in fact, I wish Metal Gear was on the 360. 50 gigs on a whole bunch of 9's.

MSFT reinvented the Xbox 360 it is now known as an RPG console and has casual offerings that will be on par with Nintendo soon then pass them up.

Funny thing is they seem to be saving the best for last as they keep saying they have much more to show in the coming months(we don't know the half of it).

MSFT reinvented the Xbox 360 by truely making a multi-media system and for the first time justifies gaming consoles not being called a game console/box/system yet focusing on gaming better then its competition at the same time.

MSFT didn't win E3 according to 95% of the media for nothing.
