The Xbox One Has A Major Install Problem that Needs to Be Fixed

Josh was a fairly early adopter of the Xbox One. He bought a Playstation 4 on launch day and held off a couple months on the Xbox until Titanfall came out. He still remembers that night, coming home from work and finding the package from Amazon that held his copies of Titanfall and Deadrising 3 along with the system itself. He set the system up, put the Titanfall disc in, and then FIVE hours later he was finally able to play my new game.

The trick is to go offline and then install the disc, longest one I had was around 30 minutes with MCC . I think if you're connected online it does some downloading too or something but Phil has said he's working on speeding install times up

Yeah unfortinatly the XB1 downloads the title update & installs the disc at the same time.

I guess it's a good idea on paper, but for us gamers its a pain in the ass.

Ultimately it all depends on how fast your tinternet is & how the MS servers are holding up at that specific time.

I've never had a game take even close to five hours, but I always by day one. It's got to be the updates slowing things down by downloading at the same time.

5 hours? Titanfall? Jesus. I was able to download the digital version of The Witcher and it was ready to play in exactly 3 hours including DL time. That's 25 gigs. I assume the physical version would take half that time.

Cant help but feel like this issue is exaggerated. Maybe not great, but I have never felt like installing games was a chore... besides launch day, that is.

downloading a 25 gig file is never a snap. Used to take me half as long and a hundred disk swaps to install big PC games, and that was before having to download them. I am happy to wait for a great game to download and install.

I imagine you will try to tell me that you can fully download a 25 gig file in a matter of seconds, because you are from outer space.

I have tons of games I love to play. Waiting 3 hours for a DL and install means nothing to me. Your idea of a "chore" must be vastly different than mine. I guess it's my fault for not having fiber connection and Playstation 5.

FIVE HOURS!? Took twenty minutes for me on Titanfall. Dead Rising closer to thirty. The only game for me that has taken over and hour was Masterchief Collection and that was because i opted to do the 15gb patch and install at the same time. Big No, No. Always install then do the patch after.

Still awful. PS4 is usually seconds, sometimes 2 min maybe. Full install not needed to play. That is so much better. Funny how ps3 got mauled last gen, yet XB1 is much worse than PS4, yet it barely gets a nod.

Every xbox game I can remember has let me play around 16%. Idk where you get your info from.

Ps4 doesn't take anywhere near "seconds" also. I remember downloading dying light and after an hour or so it told me I was 100% done so I start playing only to get hit like 30 min later saying the game still wasn't even done downloading. It tells you your 100% done then downloads the rest of it in the background, you have to go into the storage settings to see what you've really downloaded

It really depends on the game. But the general case is that the XB1 is slower at installing games than the PS4.

Assassins Creed 4 only takes 37 seconds to install on the PS4 while on the XB1 is takes several minutes.

Anyways the worst installs that I've seen on the PS4 was GTAV now that game took forever to install.

P.S I would also like to add that while its nice that a game installs quickly waiting 15 minutes for an install is no big deal.

Thats because the PS3 was so bloody slow i sold mine . Everytime i went to play Gt5 , between Gt5 updating and the playstation updating , there was 40 min of game time gone.
The Xboxone is no where near that slow .The xbox multitasks , i just play a digital downloaded game while i wait.

X1 also does not have to wait the full install time like PS4, that's up to the developers and the game.

So is the issue that if there's a pending update the game won't start and the update can't install until the game itself is installed?

That would explain why taking the game offline fixes long install times.

I've seen my friend install new games on his X1, and don't recall it taking that much time from a disc. Maybe between 5-10 minutes of not really paying attention in the first place.

Xbox One install times are pretty long depending on the game. Titanfall, Dead Rising, and Ryse took roughly 20-35 mins to install. I just let everything install while I am working or playing something else. It does suck there is not way around it.

don't take this the wrong way but I got my PS4 at launch and it still amaze me to this day how fast the PS4 installs are. to think that I was worried when they announced the PS4 will have to fully install all the games considering how long it takes to partially install games on the PS3. turned out, the installs on the PS4 is even quicker than initial loading times for most games last gen LOL!

I have install problems too.
After installing ff type o.
The game starts but gets stuck at the first loading screen.

After calling Microsoft about it, I was told to uninstall the game, go offline, than install it until 100% completion, than go online and start the game.

I was told not start a game unless it's fully installed even though the system tells me the game is ready to play when it's like 28% installed.

and here I remember ppl bashed the ps3 for 20 minute install times...

Some of guys are straight up lying. It took me almost twelve hours to DL fast & furious. I'm thinking it's because I'm wireless. My best friend son took him 3 days to DL MCC on Verizon fios again wireless. AC unity took me close to Six hours DL at his house, again wireless. BTW I have optimum

lol wireless is not the bottleneck. something is wrong with either A) your internet, B) your home router. Likely it's a pile of shit. Makes all the difference in the world if you live in a house with other people, who also use the internet.

All my games have taken no longer than 30 minutes maximum to install, and that's with the XB1 online. Yes, it would be nice if it were a bit faster, but no, it's not a big deal. 1st world problems.

I haven't had any issues with installing. Smite took a little while to download, but I think that's a pretty large game. Most games have taken no more then 20-30 mins to install or less. I don't go offline to do my installs. I'm sure they will get it fast after Win10/DX12 is finally added to the system.

5 hours!!! That's crazy, MKX took about an hour to 100% (under 20min to start playing) the longest I had was MCC and that was 1.5-2 hours tops and took around an hour till it was ready to play.

Disc take far less time than digital downloads, but I still can't stand the downloading games this gen. The one thing I miss more than anything about last gen is just being able to pop my disc in and go

Damn that sucks, i had a similar issue with AC Unity on PS4 where the install screen after playing prologue was just stuck at 13%, let it set for 3hrs then it was at 20%. Turned out i had to delete the patch and install while offline. Not sure what Internet has to do with installing games off a disc and why it would slow it down seeing as how my dl speed is rather fast, but maybe XBO does something similar for all games?

As a GameStop employee, this is the number one complaint I get from Xbox customers. It's not a good feeling to come and get your game at midnight and know that you won't realistically be playing until 3AM after you drive back home and wait for the install and updates.

The PS4 is much faster installing the games. It's not even close and it's very noticeable on SOME games. That being said, PS4 installs can sometimes take a while also.

Damn, ive never had a game take me more than 45 mins for a full install and that's staying online. MCC took me the longest and that's because my modem began acting up and I had to restart it.

I only had one disc install. Sunset overdrive and it didnt take that long maybe 30 minutes. I buy all my games digital and preload them or wait till they go on sale just because I dont want to have to wait the hours it takes to install the game.
With that being said the file sizes for xbox seem to be bigger. I got my ps4 this christmas and have barely touched my xbox since I played ori loved it and borderlands to continue my character.
The master chief collection is eating up a quarter of my hard drive and I have no space for games on there any more. My ps4 has more games on it and they are all multi plat for the most part. I havent found a reason to switch back.
Ive had an xbox since day one and it pains me to admit that ps4 is the superior console in all aspects. I still have Madden on the one and I tried playing it with a friend and last night and I dont know if its the new system updates or what but the game doesnt work the same as it used to. The console freezes up while playing. Its even kicked me out of a game.
So I am pretty much sticking to ps4 from now on until halo comes out unless some unannounced exclusives come out before it.
I still think MS has the best exclusives out though and thats solely my opinion not factual. I had more fun with sunset ori master chief collection then I did with bloodborne didnt waste my time with the order after watching a twitch stream. Bloodborne is probably the best overall game though.
I just wish the xbox had more functionality and that it worked. The sooner xbox fans make the switch to playstation the more content they will be with their gaming experience.

Im an Xbox fan and i dont have a problem at all with my gaming experience. No switch needed. You should try getting a cheap external for your xbox and installing most of your games on there. I have not experienced any slowdown on my console since getting an external hdd and the only game that has froze on me has been Halo MCC and thats not the console fault. And why does the Xbox need more functionality. It might not he as powerful as the PS4 and its installs times might be slower but im pretty sure that the Xbox one has just as much functions if not more then the ps4

What are you guys talking about going off line to install. When I use disc I'm promoted to install now or update and install. I usually just do install then do the update later. Maybe some of you need the latest system update.

I remember Dying Light taking over 3 hours to install, which was very frustrating. Typically, it only takes half an hour or less for games to install for me. Not sure why that one took so long.

You guys must have crap internet, it takes no longer than 30 minutes to install a game and that's a full install regardless of whether it's on disc or net based.. I get 50 down 10 up which is by no means super fast internet..

Lol i get 6 down on a good day and .3 up if im lucky. If i update and install it takes a long time. I pre downloaded Halo MCC so i didnt have to wait for the day one update to download and it turned out the initial download that was released was no good. I had to redownload the whole 60 gigs again which took me over 24hrs. 3rd world countries have better internet then me
