[60fps] Splatoon Wii U Gameplay Frame-Rate Test

Digital Foundry:
Splatoon runs at a native 720p resolution with no anti-aliasing, targeting 60fps for gameplay and running at a locked 30fps during the hub world segment (shown here at the beginning of the video). Frame-rates are pretty solid overall, but it's not a totally perfect performance read-out with some minor instances of dropped frames during gameplay - very similar to our preview performance video.

I cant wait for the complete analysis by DF. Frame rate looks good in that video.

MasterCornholio3251d ago

It might be in 720P but the framerate is rock solid which is fantastic.

Glad that they did a great job with this game.

:)

NobleRed3251d ago

Yeah really fantastic that a 720P game runs with 60 fps.

Moldiver3251d ago

@NobleRed

Were you expecting miracles with the WiiU hardware? This has turned out to be a good game judging by the responses to it. I dont even own a wiiU but this looks good..it looks FUN.

bobacdigital3251d ago (Edited 3251d ago )

If it was so easy to do then Sony and MSFT would be doing it.. instead they have a hard time getting games to lock at 60 or even 30 fps for that matter....

People are so quick to knock what the Wii U CANT do.. How about you look at what IT IS doing and just have fun...

MasterCornholio3250d ago

I wasnt knocking the Wii U or anything. I was saying that the framerate is great which is more important than achieving 1080P. Nothing wrong with what I said.

Bubiii3251d ago

No anti-aliasing? Good god, what year is this 1999?

OpenGL3251d ago

Most Wii U games don't use any anti-aliasing.

JacketsNest1013251d ago

Most console games don't use anit=aliasing.

Errefus3251d ago

if they use aa frame rate will drop like crazy, that is why nintendo aint using it.

BVFTW3251d ago

And it looks good enough to me, seems like it doesn't take a lot from the overall presentation and most importantly, it doesn't take away from the fun, you can always hope for an HD remaster or PC emulation someday in the long, long future if this bothers you that much.

gangsta_red3249d ago

So a game that looks to be some of the most fun had in years is getting crapped on because there's no anti-aliasing?

Wow...

I don't really see why developers even need to try and make a game engaging anymore when all gamers are interested or worried about is if their game is 1080p, 60fps with anti-aliasing and not gimped because of another console.

Emme3251d ago

Agreed, it could use some AA.

jayzablade3251d ago

Can't wait till tomorrow when I get this!! 😄😄😄

Reeze3251d ago

You'll love it!! I put over 12 hours into it the first two days I owned it.

Why Is Splatoon So Popular In Japan?

How, exactly, did Splatoon reach heights rivalled only by Pokémon in Japan? New IPs from the House of Mario appear as often as shiny Pocket Monsters, yet typically move comparatively mediocre numbers or fall into relative obscurity behind the premium marques of Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Pokémon. Take Pikmin and ARMS, for example, which we adore but struggle to compete with the tentpole franchises when it comes to sales numbers or mainstream mindshare.

So, again, how has Splatoon risen to become one of Nintendo's most important series in Japan?
